POSTS STORIES REELS

So this has totally made my week…🎉🎉

I have just found out that The Everyday Adventure Podcast @everydayadventurepod is a finalist in the Travel and Adventure Category of the Independent Podcast Awards! 🏄‍♀️🏂🏔️🌊🌳

Creating & hosting this podcast brings me such joy & has connected with me with the most incredible people, many of whom I am now lucky enough to call friends 🫶

Safe to say I’m definitely feeling all the feels right now…😅❤️

Congratulations to all my fellow nominees & a huge thank you to my amazing editor @frantic.tea @tremulanetwork who has had my back from day 1 (nearly 5.5 years ago!) 🙏 Over 100 episodes on & there are still so many more stories to tell 😁

Ps Apple Podcasts have created a special room on their app for all the nominees - I will pop a link in my bio so you can get even more pod inspiration too! 🌟 by @resilienceatwork

Yesterday was a proper “pinch me” moment 🤸‍♀️

If you’d told me four years ago that I’d be an award finalist sat in Apple Podcasts HQ hearing the latest insights from their team,I’d have been very flattered but also slightly questioning your grasp of reality…! 😁

And then later to share a room buzzing with energy, ideas and filled with creators from all sorts of backgrounds at @indpodawards was simply mindblowing 🤩

I didn’t win.

But also I really did 🏆

Because to me, going along for day was about celebrating the idea of starting something with no idea of where it might lead…

And of showing up consistently - not because I had to or was focused on a goal, but because of the sheer joy and energy I get from having my everyday adventure conversations - and the knowledge that they’ve helped a few other people along the way too ❤️

The Everyday Adventure Podcast is just one, relatively small, part of my work and life - but it’s one that gives back in spades.

So to anyone who is at the start of something that matters to them and is worried that they have no idea where it’s going, my advice is to ask yourself the following questions:

⭐️ Does this thing light me up?
⏰ Can I carve out a small pocket of time to give to this thing, without burning out?
🤯 Can I live with the “not knowing”?
❤️ Would I keep doing it if no one was watching?

If you’re answer is yes to all four, it’s absolutely enough - time to enjoy the ride because you never know where it might lead…✨😊

Huge congratulations to all the winners and finalists - I now have such a long list of pods to listen to 🎧 😊- my fellow category nominee the wonderful @folkonfoot & especially @liv_outsideuk for winning our category with her beautiful podcast @theoutdoorsfix - if you’re into outdoors podcasts or even just genuine, heartwarming conversations I highly recommend you search it out 🏞️

And I can’t finish this post without sending a heartfelt thank you 🫶 to all my incredible guests (close to 100 now 🎉) and my truly extraordinary editor @frantic.tea for all her advice and guidance - and patience! - along the way ❤️❤️❤️ by @resilienceatwork

A lot is said about how tough January can be on our mental wellbeing 🔵

But in my experience, February can be just as hard. January is full of the promise of New Year’s resolutions, back to work busy-ness and the anticipation of new things to come. But it’s also a long (and often cold/ wet 🥶🌧️) month.

And so many of us hit February exhausted, worn down by battling the elements, the myriad of bugs 🤧and quite frankly just trying to do all the things 📝

We’re ready for a bit of sunshine right?☀️ But that can still feel some way off…

Back in Feb 2021 I was feeling all that 🤯 (compounded by another lockdown with my creativity & tolerance pretty much at zero). And I realised that unless I did something significant to change how I felt, Feb was going to be one helluva slog 🪨

So I decided to embark on a month of everyday adventures, trying something new every single day. It wasn’t always easy - and there were days when removing the duvet felt enough of a challenge - but I can honestly say that it had a HUGE impact 💥

I started to look forward to each day, my creativity returned and even homeschooling didn’t feel quite so grim…😁(although I can’t deny I still did a happy jig when they announced schools were returning!) 💃🏻

When I gave my talk @tedxmoseley last year, I talked about what a difference this had made (hit the link in my bio if you want to find out more ⬆️)

And so I’ve decided that over the course of February I will be sharing some of those adventures again with you, just in case you too could do with a bit of sparkle ✨ to brighten up the February blues

And if you have any other ideas for everyday adventures, I’d love to hear them 😊

Bring it on February- we’ve got this!

Sometimes the best adventures are the ones on your doorstep 💙💚

And this was absolutely the case last night 😊

I was invited to be part of the brilliant new speaker series @hengistburyheadoutdoors supported by @quieter_apparel and I can’t think of a more fitting venue to@talk about all things resilience and #everydayadventures

Given it was a slightly wet Wednesday evening I was anticipating around 10 people to be there - so I was blown away when over 50 people turned up to fill main hall 🤩

And they really were a dream audience - filled with friends from my own local everyday adventures, neighbours and even a former podcast guest too (thanks so much @wildlyemazing for joining!)

And then a whole lot of wonderful people who I’ve never met but share the same passion for the incredible community that Jess and the team at HHO are building and a desire to live life to the fullest in this beautiful corner of the world we are lucky to call home 🌊

Thank you so much much for the invite and to everyone who came along - and those who couldn’t make but sent so many gorgeous messages of support and encouragement 🥰

My cup is definitely full after this one - and I can’t wait to be in the audience for the next speaker in a couple of weeks time! ✨ by @resilienceatwork

I’ve been pretty quiet on here - and social media in general for a while. Partly that’s been deliberate, trying to limit the doom scroll and enjoy the summer…but it’s mainly due to Poppy the chaos gremlin plus 9 weeks of juggling work, teens and the desire to make the most of the sun whilst it’s here! ☀️

It’s the first summer in a while that I’ve not been on holiday other than a few days in Cornwall - and whilst I’ve missed the joy of travelling and discovering, I’ve actually quite enjoyed making the most of where we are - and to be fair I’m very spoilt that I get to call the beach home…

Anyway thought I’d share a few highlights - not sure I’m fully ready to embrace back to school yet, but just wants to say thanks summer 2026, you’ve been awesome 🫡 💙☀️ by @resilienceatwork

You deserve joy 💃

Even more than that, you need it.

It is fundamental to our psychological resilience and research has found that even brief moments of joy can counter the effects of negative emotions (Fredrickson, 2001, 2013)

Yet so often we can see joy as a bonus that we are lucky to encounter - or even feel guilty when we actively seek it out.

And resilience is often framed that way - as our capacity to endure, to keep going no matter what life throws at us.

But what if we see resilience instead as the active pursuit of joy. Not toxic positivity, not always being happy, but rather a stubbornness to seek the pockets of brightness where we can, to find the light between the cracks.

It’s not easy. It takes effort, a constant re-focusing and even re-wiring of how we see the world. But - just like most things in life- the more we practice it, the easier it becomes…

So here is my invitation- what will you do to bring joy into your life today?

Ps photo taken at the end of the Pier to Pier swim on Saturday - think my expression is closer to relief (!), but having 1 hour to myself with nothing to do except be in the sea definitely brought me a lot of joy 💙 by @resilienceatwork

The post I never wanted to write 😢

.On Friday we said goodbye to our beautiful girl Roxy. We are utterly heartbroken, but also incredibly grateful for the 16 years and 8 months we got to have her in our lives 🙏

From the minute we saw those eyebrows as she peered out of the stable in Abergavenny, one paw on each of her siblings heads, we were totally smitten 😍 And just as she was the boss of her brothers and sisters, she was the boss of all of us too - and we are so very lost without her.

But given she was still pottering off down the road to have a good sniff only last weekend, I know she squeezed every last bit of goodness out of a very special life.

Rest easy my darling, you really were a very good girl ❤️❤️❤️

Ps apologies if you see this same post across multiple platforms - given we moved house 7 times in the last 16 years, I have lost track of the number of people she shared walks & cuddles with (and begged treats from!) over the years - but take great comfort in knowing she was very loved 🐾 by @resilienceatwork

Last week, I published the final episode of Season 8 of The Everyday Adventure Podcast @everydayadventurepod 🎉

10 more conversations to add to the existing 102 episodes 🎧

Honestly, I thought it would be huge sense of relief when I closed the laptop on Friday.

Because whilst I’ve absolutely loved each and every one of those conversations, it’s a lot of work getting the podcast out into the world and I am definitely ready for a break 🏖️.

However, the reality is I actually felt a lot like most people feel at the end of an adventure -a bit flat, a bit sad and a bit lost 😞 Like all that momentum that has gone into the delivery has stopped and now there’s something missing.

Usually this is the point when I go and sign up to something else, to distract myself & give me something to look forward to. But this time, I’m going to try and sit alongside these feelings and take the recovery. Plus there are plenty of things competing for my attention (*I am looking at you doctorate 😬 ) and the summer holidays are just around the corner….🫣

But what would make this sense of loss much easier to handle is if you could do me a small favour and check out some of these conversations with my amazing guests 🙏

It has been such a privilege to spend time chatting with them and I dare you not to be inspired by their perspectives and achievements 💪

So all that’s left for me to say is a massive thank you to the following:
@emmasimpsonauthor @hettykingston @dogwooddaysgardener @_jobradshaw @lifeofbrianandloki @ashalexcooper @outdoorsisforeveryone @vickybikes @thepolaracademy @inclusivepaddleboarding @marinalegree @ascendathleticsngo for your wonderful company and inspiration & of course my ever patient & brilliant editor @frantic.tea @tremulanetwork 🫶

Please do give them a listen and make me happy again 😁 - I hope you find something that resonates, let me know what you think!❤️

In July 2021, I came across @ascendathleticsngo on my feed. An organisation founded by @marinalegree to help women and girls in Afghanistan develop their leadership skills through mountaineering and climbing, their work spoke to everything the podcast stood for and my own background and relationship with this country.

I vividly remember the first conversation I had with Marina - I connected with everything she was trying to achieve and could not wait to record the episode.

And then, a few days after our call everything changed. The Taliban retook Afghanistan with a speed few of us saw coming and I - along with so many of my friends and colleagues were left reeling, trying to process what had happened in a country we held so close.

Ascend were in the thick of this, doing everything they could to prioritise the safety of the women, girls and staff involved in their programmes.

And so the recording never went ahead, although the power of that initial conversation with Marina was not forgotten.

Then a few months ago Marina and I reconnected on LinkedIn. The timing was now right with programs now ongoing in Afghanistan and Pakistan and the result is this - the final episode of Season 8 and a conversation I am incredibly proud to share.

It contains all the elements that sit at the heart of the podcast - access, empowerment, courage, resilience, creativity and - above all - hope.

And whilst I wish we could have spoken back in 2021, in some ways now feels like the right moment to share Ascend’s story - in a world that can feel dark at times, what Marina continues to achieve with her team and this organisation is a beacon of what you can do with tenacity, creativity and a single minded focus on your mission. I left our conversation utterly inspired - I am sure you will too ✨

Despite being a psychologist, I am not immune to feeling overwhelmed by the world at times.

And I have had so many conversations recently with others who feel the same.

So I thought I’d share something that works for me when I’m feeling stuck or anxiety creeps in.

And that is to focus on the things that I have agency over - the things that I can control.

There is so much in the world that we cannot influence, at least in the short term.

But by taking action, no matter how small, it allows us to take some power back - and helps us remember that we can make a difference in our own lives at least. And that feeling once it returns can help to unlock so much more.

So I hope that helps as a place to start (even if it is just making a list of things you can do today)

What else would you recommend? ❤️ by @resilienceatwork

“This isn’t just about physical access — it’s about creating spaces where people feel they belong.”

Will Behenna @inclusivepaddleboarding is an adaptive paddleboarder, accessibility advocate and founder of multiple initiatives focused on improving access to blue spaces across the UK including Inclusive Paddleboarding and The Beach Access Project.

Through equipment design, coaching and community partnerships, he works to create more inclusive opportunities for people to enjoy the physical and mental benefits of water environments.

Growing up on the Cornish coast, Will developed a lifelong connection to blue spaces. After a spinal injury as a teenager, Will refused to let barriers keep him away from the water. He now dedicates his time to ensuring more people can experience the freedom, wellbeing and adventure that the coastal environment can offer.

Will shares the vision behind the Beach Access Project which launches in Parliament on 18 May. He also sets out his aims as one of the directors at the newly relaunched @hengistburyheadoutdoors - a space he intends to be a centre of excellence for inclusive watersports across the UK.

This is a thoughtful and practical conversation about belonging, dignity and why designing outdoor spaces that welcome everybody matters to us all.
