Happy World Sickle Cell Day! Diagnosed at just two years old, my journey with sickle cell disease was filled with challenges – surgeries, medications, and countless treatments. But amidst the struggles, I held onto hope.
.
About 6.5 years ago, I became one of the first adults in Canada to undergo a stem cell transplant to cure sickle cells, a decision that changed my life forever. Trust me it wasn’t easy to advocate for this opportunity, but I thank God for allowing me to open the floodgates for many other deserving adults who also needed transplant.

Today, I stand as living proof that there is hope beyond the pain, and strength beyond the struggle. Let's spread awareness, advocate for research, and inspire hope for a brighter future for all those affected by sickle cell disease.

Today marks 5 years..
.
5 years since my stem cell transplant. When I think of what God has done for me in the last 5 years I’m brought to tears. Thank you God for your love, favour and mercy. All I can do now is pay it forward and share this testimony with the world. God truly makes the impossible possible. So thankful for everyone God has placed in my life to help me get to this point!

Wondering where I’ve been this Sickle Cell Awareness Month… my advocacy looks a little different this year.

No events, just soaking up every beautiful moment with my miracle baby.. who is now a toddler 🥹

I’m resting in the fact that advocacy works. If I hadn’t fought for a cure, I wouldn’t have become the first adult in Western Canada to be cured of sickle cell disease through a stem cell transplant, and I wouldn’t have opened the door for so many other patients to find their cure. I’m so thankful for the favour I’ve seen in my life.

There’s still so much work to do, but for now, I’m enjoying everything that advocating for myself has brought me.💕

Yesterday was my last day of maternity leave and I’m so emotional. The past 16 months with our sweet girl has been nothing sort of a dream. It has been chaotic, full of surprises but most of all full of a love and joy I can’t even explain. I’m going to miss hanging out with my mini me all day🥹 so thankful to God for this season and ready to take on the next 💕

I don’t even know where to begin. 🥹
There was a time I wasn’t sure I’d ever become a nurse. I was actually discouraged from pursuing nursing, told that the long hours and physical demands could be devastating for a body already fighting sickle cell disease.
.
But I am so grateful for the people who didn’t give up on me. The ones who believed in me when I couldn’t fully believe in myself and kept pushing me every step of the way.
.
This weekend I was honoured with Nurse of the Year at the Afro Diaspora Nurses Connect 3rd Annual Nurses Week Celebration & Awards and I am still in my feelings. 🏆
.
To @sandy_boujee and the @afrodiasporanursesconnect family — thank you for this incredible space. To my husband @kofintiamoah_ my constant, my safe place, my everything. 💕
