What I really hate about live comedy? The wanton destruction of “sports“ equipment. #standup #standupcomedy #britishcomedy #comedian #comedy taken in Harbour Tavern Bridlington by @rich.austin.comedy

In what appears to be a series of booking errors, I have been scheduled for three appearances at this year’s Hull Comedy Festival. All ticket links in bio. Why wait until your diary fills up with something even worse?

1. BEST OF ‘ULL
Wed 4 Nov, 7pm · Hull Truck Theatre (Godber Studio)
The festival’s annual showcase of Hull’s funniest. I’m on it, which raises some questions about the selection process. From £13.50.

2. RICH AUSTIN: STONE COLD
Sun 8 Nov, 8:30pm · The Brain Jar
My solo hour. “Note-perfect stand-up from one of the second best comedians in Hull” is what it says on the wildly ambitious poster. Killer lines, stone cold delivery. Pay what you want (as long as it’s at least £5).

3. QUIP SPICE
Sat 14 Nov, 9pm · Pop Up Space, Fruit Market
Stand-up, improv and outright mayhem from some of Hull’s leading comedians. I’m one of them, administratively speaking. This was a lot of fun last year. From £6.

The first one is three weeks away. In the meantime please try to remain calm. taken in Hull Truck Theatre by @rich.austin.comedy

I’m obliged to report that I’ve been nominated for some Yorkshire Comedy Industry awards.

Firstly, and most inexplicably, I’m up for Best Promoter, despite only running one night: Cottingham Comedy Club. CCC is also (deservedly) nominated for Best Independent Comedy Club, and I hope it wins again because it’s fcking ace.

I run and compère that night with Jed Salisbury. Jed has not been nominated for Best Promoter, but has been nominated for Best Compère, which I have not. From this I conclude that Jed is the talent, and I’m grateful to be recognised for my admin skills.

I’ve also been nominated for Breakthrough Act. This is a true honour, and hopefully an inspiration to newer acts, who with hard work and perseverance might also find themselves nominated for such a prestigious award just 15 years and 11 months into their comedy career. Here’s to being an overnight success by 2046.

Voting is open to comedians and promoters only (sorry, normals). If that’s you, votes are very welcome: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdvJU4KKf_SVVq9f7RAPPnzNEF328Ty2YOiVlThGyzzEyrbIQ/viewform by @rich.austin.comedy

Draw a Venn diagram of a comedy club, a swimming pool and a butcher’s shop. This venue is the intersection. #standup #standupcomedy #britishcomedy #comedian #comedy taken in Creatures Of The Night Comedy Club by @rich.austin.comedy

After a fun couple of days at Tribfest I am visibly excited to be heading up to the Edinburgh festival until Thursday.
Any tips welcome on shows to watch, available spots to perform, or where I can sample the local delicacy “skag”. by @rich.austin.comedy
