Running coach. Former business world refugee. Horse girl. Belly dancer. Snow camper. World traveler. Mom. Free diver. 33-year runner.

I contain multitudes. And I bring all of them to my coaching. 🏔️

if you’ve ever wanted to know the human behind the training plans – this one’s for you.

I didn’t start running to win races.
I started to find peace — to quiet the noise, to prove to myself I could do hard things.

Running gave me confidence when life felt uncertain.
It taught me resilience, patience, and how to start over — lessons I now help others discover through coaching.

I’m Sarah — endurance and ultra running coach, sports nutrition specialist, and someone who believes every mile tells a story.

I coach runners of all ages and backgrounds — from those training for their first 5K to those chasing their next ultra — helping them build strength, consistency, and confidence that lasts.

And while I’m especially passionate about supporting midlife athletes navigating the changes that come with evolving physiology, energy, and recovery, the truth is:
we all have seasons where our bodies and minds ask for a different kind of training.

Running can adapt with you — and I can help you do it.

If you’re here to get stronger, smarter, and more grounded in your running, you’re in the right place. Follow along for science-backed training, mindset support, and real talk about what it means to keep showing up — at every stage of life.

If this story hit home, share it to your story — I’d love to meet more runners who see themselves in this. by @ridgerunning.co

Hi, I’m Sarah Ter Har—a certified endurance running coach and sports nutrition coach, and the founder of Ridge Running Co., where I help runners of all backgrounds chase big goals across road, trail, and ultra distances.

Running has been central to my life for over 30 years. I’ve raced everything from city streets to mountain trails, and coached athletes from their first 5K to 250+ mile ultramarathons. My coaching style is rooted in adaptability, evidence-based training, and whole-athlete support.

There’s no one-size-fits-all plan here. Every runner is different—your training should reflect that.

What to expect working with me:
• Personalized training plans for 5K to ultra distances
• Trail & mountain run coaching focused on specificity where it's needed
• Strength & mobility workouts using dumbbells, bands & bodyweight
• Menopause-informed strategies for women 40+
• Sports nutrition education & coaching
• Mindset & goal-setting support for sustainable progress using sports psychology techniques.

I use science-backed methods, real-life planning, and compassionate accountability to help you train smarter—not just harder. Whether you’re a busy parent, a trail newbie, or an ultrarunner chasing a PR, I’ll meet you where you are and help you grow from there.

When I’m not coaching or running, I’m usually camping with my family, riding motorcycles with my husband, or crafting with our daughter. I’m also a pet lover with two senior dogs and four guinea pigs.

I am based in California and work virtually with athletes worldwide. Curious what it’s like to train with a coach who sees the full picture—body, mind, and life?

Mud, wind and 100 miles. Meet the athlete who showed up anyway.

Meet Sheila 🩷

This past weekend Sheila took on the Javelina Jundred 100M, and the desert did not hold back. Extreme weather, flooding, mud everywhere, and 100 miles to cover on foot. Pink in the desert, mud and all.

She ran what she could, hiked what she needed to, and kept moving through the mud and the mess. She came into race weekend after a recent sprain that set her back, and she felt strong where it mattered most. She didn’t get the finish she came for. She got a huge TRY, a pile of time on her feet, and a head full of lessons from a brutal 100K. That’s how strong ultrarunners are made.

And this is not even the first time Sheila has done something remarkable. She had a hip replacement in February 2025 and has been training her way back up through the ultra distances ever since. In January 2026, less than a year after surgery, she ran the San Diego 50M, and she ran it strong.

She’s a North County San Diego athlete juggling CPA exams, wedding planning and training, and she still shows up with a plan (and if you know Sheila, you know she does it all in pink). Her next chapter includes the Southern California Ultra Slam, and she’d love to run a 200 miler someday. She plays the long game, and she plays it with heart.

Sheila, I’m so proud to be in your corner. 🩷

Most runners run their easy days too hard. I see it all the time.

An easy run should feel almost too easy. You can talk in full sentences, you’re not checking your watch, and you finish feeling like you could keep going. About a 3 or 4 out of 10 effort.

Why it matters: easy miles build your aerobic base and let you recover, so your hard days can actually be hard.

Slow down, enjoy the view, and let the easy days do their job. 🌊

Send this to the friend who never slows down. 😅

Javelina Jundred is known for the heat. This year it was cool, humid, rainy and windy. 🌧️

I was out there coaching an athlete and brought another along to pace, and it was a good reminder that race day will always throw something at you that your training plan never mentioned. You can’t control the conditions, but you can practice for them.

Swipe for four things worth rehearsing before your next race, whether it’s a 5K or a 100 miler.

Grit isn’t something you’re born with. It’s a skill, and every rainy training run is practice.

Send this to a running friend who needs it before their next race. Which of the four do you forget first? 👇

Some races just feel like home.

Every All We Do Is Run event I’ve been part of, whether running, volunteering, or pacing someone through their hardest miles, has reminded me why I fell in love with trail running in the first place.

So I’m thrilled to be the official training partner for La Cuesta Ranch Trail Run this January. It’s a beautiful, honest course with real climbing on every loop, and a generous time limit that makes it a perfect first trail race or a great early-season test.

Whether you want a plan to follow on your own or a virtual group to train alongside every Tuesday night, I’d love to help you get to that start line feeling strong. Start with my free digital training guide or join my free live webinar on November 10. And everyone who trains with me gets 25% off their race entry. Prices go up after November 30!

Save this if La Cuesta is on your list.

“You really can’t hide from your deepest self when you’re running these distances. You’re going to unlock something in yourself. And you’re going to find demons, and also the best parts of yourself.”

I had the best time sitting down with Luis Escobar on the Road Dog Podcast. We talked about everything: how I fell in love with running back in my cross country days, finding long distance, my favorite local places to run in LA, Santa Barbara Nine Trails, Back on the Ranch, and what’s ahead with my running goals.

We also got into the stuff I don’t talk about enough: how my body has changed as I’ve gotten older, why I became a certified Menopausal Athlete Coach, and what it actually looks like to work with a coach.

Luis has a gift for making you feel like you’re just talking with an old friend on the trail. Thank you for having me, Luis. 🙏

Swipe for a few of my favorite moments, and catch the full episode at the link in bio.

And stay tuned... I have something exciting to share with @_allwedoisrun and @luis_escobar tomorrow. 👀

34 years of races. Still haven’t figured out bib pins. 🧷

This is your permission slip to stop explaining your rest days to people who peaked in 2019. Save this for the next time you need it, and trust me, you will need it again.

For the people who feel like stopping is the enemy - the data says otherwise.

You don’t need to disappear into the woods for a week to get the benefits. Lower cortisol, sharper focus, more creative output, a quieter mind - all of it is available in a 20-minute window you probably already have today.

What’s your 20 minutes going to look like this weekend? 👇

Age is just the number on your bib, not the one on the clock. 🕚

Meet Bryna. 64 years old. 100 miles. 24:09:09.

At the end of summer, Bryna set a goal: finish 100 miles in 24 hours at Ghost Train Rail Trail Races in Brookline, New Hampshire - the same course where she dealt with an injury two years ago. Flat course, good footing, brutally cold this year, and cutoffs that don’t care how many years you’ve been doing this.

She did it. Third female overall across the entire field, and the only finisher over 60 to complete the full 100 miles this year. Her time sits right alongside the fastest 60+ performances in this race’s 15+ year history.

This is what happens when someone refuses to let an injury, an age bracket, or a “should I still be doing this” voice make the decision for her. Bryna trained for this with intention, showed up to the start line prepared, and ran her own race for 24 straight hours until she crossed that finish. 🥳

So proud to have coached her through this build. Huge thanks to her pacers, crew, and the volunteers who were out there in the cold all night making this possible- and to Bryna, for proving that the only clock that really matters is the one you set for yourself. 👏
