He is probably the second biggest gnome I have made (Someone to Write Gnome About probably wins that contest) but this guy definitely feels like the largest gnome I have made. My son calls him, Mega Gnome. As I was knitting him I kept asking my son if I should change course and make him smaller but he encouraged me to keep going. I had never knit the larger size of this pattern and didn’t realize how ginormous he would be. I didn’t even get to make the hat to pattern because I ran out of yarn. His hat should be several rows taller!
.
My son and I went to @starlightknittingsociety this summer on their Kool Aid yarn dying day. I was smart and made minis for us to dye this year. A couple of years ago we went and each dyed a full skein and I now have 200 grams of wildly dyed yarn with no idea how to use. So this year I said we would each make a mini and I would promptly knit a gnome with them.
.
So here’s the finished project. Two yarns that are individually a little crazy that I never would have chosen to go together. But it works because gnomes are delightfully forgiving canvases. šŸ˜‰

Pattern: Choose Your Gnome Adventure by @imagined_landscapes, Plain hat, Plain body, size large; nose modified to be a little larger, beard modified to be a little larger
Yarn: Hat yarn by my son, body yarn by me

October makings!
.
This month starts off with lots of projects on the needles. I hope to finish them up and get started on some new things this month. I decided not to start planning what’s next just yet, though.
.
My Skyline Tee is almost half done. This is the first time I am doing a fade with two skeins with this pattern. I need just about all of two skeins for this pattern so yarn management is really important. After splitting for the sleeves I went back and knit the collar and am now doing the sleeves. That way when I go back to the body I can just use up all of skein one and not have to worry about holding enough in reserve for the collar and sleeves.
.
I have made a lot of progress on my Moonlit Jellies cowl!
.
The gnome I made with the yarn my son and I dyed is pretty much finished. I knit a nose I decided was too small for this giant and sadly it’s sat for weeks ready to go if I only got around to redoing a larger nose.
.
I made my first jellyfish ornament last month and will ramp up production this month. I will probably tweak the pattern a little more (I ended up editing it to be slightly smaller than written) but I am close to the final way I want them to look. I calculated and at this point need to crank out about two a week which is doable.
.
I am planning on participating in the new mystery gnome KAL. The two skeins on the left are the one I pulled. This gnome calls for sport weight yarn and I have zero in stash. But I grabbed some thicker than usual fingering and am hoping it works out.
.
Also planned for this month is the gnome for our office for Nov/Dec and I also need to quickly whip up a little pumpkin for this month’s office gnome to hold.

I have mentioned before that my mom loves mice (as decorations, not real ones). I decided it was time to add to the knit mouse collection. So this summer I searched for a new mouse pattern for her birthday. I have always been a fan of @dotpebbles_knits patterns. But let me be clear: If I knit you something that’s even 50% seamed, I love you. If I knit you something that’s 100% seamed, I love you very, very much and am willing to forsake my sanity a bit for you. This mouse is seamed all the way, even her sweater has a seam up the back. I could have/should have converted that to be knit in the round, but I was putting this mouse together right before my parents flew in to visit so had to get it finished and hidden so didn’t have the time.
.
Knitting animals to be seamed is a bit of a leap of faith. How is this strange shape going to turn into a mouse? It honestly feels like magic when you start to see the critter emerge.

I am enjoying a more boxy fit sweater these days and Atrium caught my eye. I loved the contrast color I chose to go with the main yarn but had a lot less of it than the pattern stated. Some people did just the horizontal stripes and not the vertical stripes and I didn’t mind that look. So I went ahead with my chosen contrast color and figured if I didn’t have enough for the vertical stripes, no big deal. I never even tried to calculate if I have enough yarn left to do the vertical striping. There’s a chance one day I will attempt it or if I pick up some extra of that yarn. But I am very happy with it as it is now.
.
You create vertical purl channels while you knit which gives a textural vertical stripe or you can single crochet yarn up the channel for an actual colored stripe. I thought this pattern would be so versatile for utilizing or choosing not to use the striping and/or texture. I thought the shape would make an awesome blank canvas pattern.
.
I made size 2 and used a total of 211.7g main color and 6.7g of contrast color. So if I ever want to use this pattern for a solid two skein sweater I will have to get lucky or do some slight modifications. As it is, I ran out of yarn to make the sleeves exactly as the pattern states.

Yarn: Sugar Shack by @candyshoppeboutique (Candy Shoppe has since closed down and I believe this is the last sweater I will make with their yarn as the main star šŸ’”), Skogafoss by @explorerknits

If you ever wondered why a primarily knitting account is called ā€œRoadBunner,ā€ meet, Mario. Over twenty years ago I was living in NYC. I loved to run and I loved rabbits. On the run one day in Central Park I came up with the play on roadrunner and it’s been my online handle ever since.
.
I had bunnies as a kid but they were sadly outdoor rabbits. I always wanted a house bunny. I ended up adopting Mario who changed my life. I used to volunteer with the House Rabbit Society in NYC which was so rewarding. Rabbits and running. That was NYC life in my twenties.
.
Mario was with me through the biggest changes. My last years of school. Moving across the country. Getting married. Having a baby.
.
Losing him was the hardest thing. He was with me for over ten years. I didn’t/don’t think I would ever want another rabbit. He’s my soul bunny, full stop. There’s a permanent Mario-shaped hole in my heart.
.
He passed away when my son was 4 weeks old so getting another rabbit wasn’t on the radar at all anyway. But I kept some of his things over the last 12 years. Not because they were his but because maybe…
.
I have been following @peanutbunner_ for a long time. They have a rabbit of their own but usually also have a foster bunny in the house. I found it so inspiring to watch them give rabbits a safe place to land and to help them find forever homes. I know how to take care of rabbits. I miss being around rabbits. I could do that, too.
.
The past few years I followed local rabbit rescue groups and dreamed of fostering. I have been talking to my husband and we decided to do it. For years after Mario life had a different cadence as a young family but there’s room now.
.
So yes, this was originally a rabbit account. I had a blog for many years which I considered a running blog but Mario was the star. Monday Mario! If you remember Mario, I owe our friendship to him. And now if you enjoy the future rabbit foster adventures, we owe that to Mario, too.

Summer is winding down so I wanted to share my summer office gnome. If you remember, last year I developed this gnome pool floatie, intending to give it away in our office. But I fell in love with it and it’s now a part of my personal gnome collection. So a year later I finally knit up a second one and this one will find a home with someone else.
.
I made an improvement on my first design: I put the seam for the tube on the inside against the gnome’s body instead of the outside so it’s a lot cleaner.
.

Yarn: Fingering scraps

September makings! Lots of color this month.
.
The last week I have been working heartily on my Droplet Capelet by @bayronhandmade in the red yarn. I knit one up years ago and lately have been using it a lot. It’s such a wearable piece for me. So I’m making another and I doubt this will be my last.
.
My gnome plans never got addressed last month and I still want to make a masterpiece with the yarn my son and I dyed.
.
That rectangle in the center is the beginning of another Skyline Tee. Now that I have my yarn amounts down, this one is going to be a fade.
.
Moonlit Jellies also got ignored last month but I plan to finish it up once the Capelet is complete. Don’t worry, Moonlit Jellies, at least you have been making the monthly photo, unlike my Hvammsvik Blanket 😬🫣.
.
I realized the other day I need to get cracking on my ornaments for the year. If I start now, I need to average one a week to have them ready for gifting. I doubt that will happen but I don’t want to get to a point I need ten in a week so I intend to start. This year I will be making the Toy Jellyfish by @karlacourtney. I have had the pattern on my favorites list for a while. The big pretty skein is my yarn choice for those. Let’s go! 🪼 by @roadbunner

I finished this top back in July but am finally posting it. I have worn it a few times and I love the fit. The saddle shoulder construction isn’t my favorite in terms of making (I am a fan of getting to the knitting in the round ASAP) but I am finding the fit and way the sleeves drape is šŸ‘©ā€šŸ³ šŸ’‹. I already cast on a second one!
.
I absolutely adore this yarn. The photo of the skeins is color accurate. It was impossible to capture the color the day I snapped the FO shot. I really hope this yarn is released again because I would love another skein to make a neck accessory.

Jimothy the raccoon is the lovable distraction we all need these days. Cassandra created a bag charm pattern so you can attach him to anything and be reminded of his scrappiness and that being unique is awesome.
.
You may look at Jimothy as a fun pattern (which it is!) but I want to say that this pattern is an absolute masterpiece. I have knit a lot of animals and the construction and design of Jimothy is top notch. My mind went 🤯 when the front legs were attached and the shaping through the body and hind legs is absolutely exquisite. Truly, it’s masterfully written. There aren’t a lot of animal designers that are doing such subtle shaping in the round (seamless… swoonšŸ–¤) and I appreciate it so much. I told Cassandra she has a real talent for designing and I hope she continues!
.
The pattern is written for fingering held with mohair. That gives Jimothy a lovely fuzziness. I didn’t have corresponding mohair colors so I knit mine with just the fingering yarn and I think he’s still adorable. Mine is Jimothy with his fur slicked back for a night on the town šŸ¤µā€ā™‚ļøšŸ˜†. I made my hanging loop a little shorter so he could be hung aĢ€ la ornament instead of bag charm.

This pattern popped up on my feed months ago and I knew immediately my son would love it. I showed him the photo and he asked for me to knit him one. My son’s interest in receiving these types of things is waning as he ages. When he asks for something knit these days, I jump on it.
.
The pattern is written to be knit totally flat and then seamed. I am not a fan of creating animals this way. Suffice to say I must love my son very much because I pressed on with the making.
.
Every single piece that could be knit in the round I modified to do that. I also picked up stitches and knit directly onto the animal when I could get away with that, too. Mattress stitch is magic but I prefer to avoid it whenever possible. I made a few other minor adjustments; notes for all of this are on my Ravelry page.
.
My son was very happy with the result. When he was younger he would bring downstairs with him every morning 1-5 stuffed animals who would live on the couch all day before making the journey back upstairs at night. The day after I gave him this penguin I noticed that he had brought it down the next morning. I snapped a shot of him lying on the couch. It’s a behavior I hadn’t seen in a very long time and it could well be the last time it happens. When we went to Hawaii weeks later he even brought this little penguin shark along for the trip. Those two things are the biggest compliments an animal I made could receive 🄹.

I was recently back home in Hawaii for 2.5 weeks visiting family and friends. I cast on this pair of socks during the plane ride over and gifted them to my dad before we left. My dad wears socks I made him every day when he goes out. He’s the most knit worthy person in my life if you’re looking at usage. šŸ’™
.
He’s got pretty wide feet and I always waffle between worrying they are too big or too small while I am knitting them up. Things obviously vary depending on yarn and gauge but I made myself some notes based on the fit of these. We also did a new cardboard tracing. I think I traced his smaller foot the last time and the new one will be the one I work off of from now on. The new tracing matches up with some of the future modifications I planned to make based on the fit of these so it all checks out.

August makings!
.
I have a bit of a leisurely feel to this month after rapid gift knitting the last several weeks.
.
My Moonlit Jellies cowl took a backseat position last month as I finished up a KAL project and the gifts. But it’s back on the rotation this month. The green on the yarn pops a bit more than I would like so I am still deciding how I feel about how the yarn is knitting up.
.
The Atrium sweater has been a fun knit. I am preferring shorter, boxier sweaters recently and am experimenting with new patterns to find my basic fingering vanilla boxy sweater that I can later use as a template for color play.
.
I am planning to knit up a gnome with the two mini skeins my son and I dyed with Kool-Aid.
They don’t really match but that’s the fun of it. I am planning to make a larger gnome to use up as much of the yarn as I can.
.
My son requested a summer themed hat for one of his stuffed animals šŸ¦†. There’s a fun test knit this month, too! šŸ¦
