So you have a to do list that is so long, it feels like running a marathon would be easier to complete.

Thats me every single week, even every day it feels at times, and it’s overwhelming.

Sometimes it can end in me just procrastinating and picking up my phone or anything that will take my mind off the daunting to do list.

So here’s what you’re going to do instead:

1. Write out absolutely everything, have a big old brain dump
2. Then look at how much time each will take, quick, med, long.
3. Then look at what is an absolute priority, do you have a deadline, is someone counting on you for something, thats top priority. Look at what would happen if X doesn’t get done today
4. Write a new list of just 3 things. The 3 most important things that absolutely can not be put off and 2 really small tasks that will take like 5 minutes
5. Start with the 2 small tasks and physically check them off - cha ching! dopamine hit and now you’re in the zone
6. Pick one of your 3 most important and set a timer for 45 minutes.
7. Work for 45 minutes and then take 10/15 minutes away from your desk. Don’t pick up your phone but physically walk away and give yourself that physical break.
8. if you do want time on your phone, walk away from the desk and again set a timer so you don’t get lost in a doomscroll wondering where your day has gone

If anyone has any other tips then I’d love to hear them, always looking for ways to be a bit more productive when I need to be 😅

Flow around the box!

Lots of unilateral work, working through one side of the body before working it all in reverse round the box to the other side.

Making sure we work through the full body with this flow and adding in a shoulder stretch for the front of the shoulder because of all the 4 point kneel work.

This looks easy, the movements aren’t the most complicated technically but as we know with Pilates, nothing is easy and this flow is a real full body challenge.

Lots of stability work with 3 point work, the c curve 100 into climb a tree and the hold of the rotation for the lunges at the end being real key challenges.

I really like planning my classes like this and get good feedback whenever we work in this style rather than just going movement = right leg then straight to left leg etc.

Saw this 100 variation on @chrisenpilates page and thought, my advanced girlies can do that… and they killed it 👏🏼👏🏼
Such a tough exercise but such a good variation on a classic move 🙌🏼🙌🏼

I really enjoyed this warm up this week

We had a section on side body and obliques so it was a good way to start warming those areas up without tiring them out and got in some nice spinal, shoulder and mobility too.

🔺Starting off with circles with the knees to get the hips moving

🔺Then into a flow for the obliques:
- knees side to side
- add windmill of the arm overhead and back
- knees to side (just half way) extend top leg and come back up

🔺Finish with both legs to ceiling (or table top) and reach up. Hold at the top and lower alternating legs.

And we’re ready for the class 🥳🙌🏼

And who wouldn’t want that?!

Starting with the foot placement at the top of the box to fire up the glutes

Then I brought the foot down to make the lift of the opposite leg behind easier and alternate

Options to bring the hands behind the head for more of a stability challenge or leave them gently resting on the foot bar

You could even add an external rotation to get into the outer glute 🍑🍑

If anyone has any other ideas of how to progress then let me know because I’m teaching this at the weekend 🥳👇🏼 by @roambykatie

A new season of training with a new season of the year 🍁🌳🎃

I’ve spent some time focusing on building strength and I feel good but I’m so excited to have a specific goal to work towards again.

Functional training is my favourite style of training so getting back to that will be good but I know the next few weeks will feel hard.

This morning I just wanted to test a few of the movement patterns so did ski, burpees, lunges, cable row, farmers and a short run to finish.

My goal each week for the new few weeks is to do:
1x hyrox specific session
1x cardio - run/bike/swim
1x lower
1x upper
1x Pilates

I’ll probably do 5-6 sessions a week depending on what I’ve got going on and I’m also currently trying to get to a yoga class a week to help continue with my mobility.

Let’s goooo 🔥🏋🏼‍♀️🤸🏼‍♀️ by @roambykatie

When you have 2 jobs, work bleeds into the weekend BUT I really try keep my corporate job in the Monday - Friday time zone

Post this on a Thursday so you can do all these things tomorrow ready for the weekend 🥳

And it wasn’t always physically working but my brain just wasn’t switching off. I’d spend the weekend thinking about what was coming up or what had happened.

Take some time to think about the week you’ve just had.

What’s gone well, who have you met, where could you have done things better.

It means you’re clearing your head of the week that was but also means going into next week you’ve got an idea of things you could do better.

For me, that’s leaving my phone out the room whilst I work next week 🫡

Write out a to do list for Monday.

So many times Monday has come around and I’ve spent the first part of the day writing lists of things to get done or trying to remember conversations I need to have.

It also means Monday morning won’t be a shock because you’ve already got a plan in place.

A task I’ve only just started doing because my inbox used to be (and is still sometimes) a mess.

I wish I was an inbox 0 kinda person but unfortunately that was not meant to be my path in life.

But what I’ve found by taking an hour to do ‘admin’ clear up emails and sort it out, come Monday, everything I clearer. It also means I can go through and check I’ve done things I needed to.

Which leads me on to.. closing any open threads.

It might seem like it’s a 5 minute job I can just do Monday but trust me, close off anything you can in week.

Send the email, call the person, finish the presentation.

It means when next week rolls around with a million new tasks, you’re not trying to juggle 2 weeks of work.

Schedule in your social/fitness calendar.

In the corporate world, 9-5 isn’t 9-5, throw another job in there and you could work 24/7

I’d find myself sometimes not booking anything in and then working late or covering classes and then I haven’t done anything for me.

This could also be a night where you say I’m having a night to myself, no plans, no people, no work.

But book it all in the week before, before your schedule gets booked up and by @roambykatie

12 year old Katie wouldn’t believe it.

I danced from the age of 3 but sports and ‘fitness’ were just not my thing, I used to write sick notes for P.E. and found anything remotely active so embarrassing.
I remember my school dance teacher, who was also the PE teacher, having a word with me because I had a sick note for cross country and the next day I was magically all better for dance class 🙃🙃

Like cross country as someone who has 0 natural ability to run was just an awful day at school. I remember the night before running up and down our stairs thinking that would make me super fit and ready for it 😅😭

My love for health and fitness has varied over the years but since 2018 I have had such a solid love and a passion for movement.

I’ve loved how it’s made my body look at times, I’ve loved the fact that I’ve been able to do races like hyrox and run 30k, things I never thought I could do and I’ve loved how it clears my head.

For me, Pilates, lifting weights, yoga and functional movement is what makes up most of my training. I’ll throw in the odd spin class, swim session or aerial hoop class to try new things and keep it interesting.

But I’m so grateful that movement is such a big part of my life now.

For how I feel after a hard session, how my body feels after a good stretch or how accomplished I feel when I finally can do the hardest variation of a Pilates exercise.

How it translates across every day life:
A clearer head, knowing I’ll be able to run around and do cartwheels when I’m 80, going out for long walks in nature and being able to walk for a long time without getting tired, to pick my nephew up easily and having the energy to get through tough days.

Movement is medicine and if I could prescribe anyone anything it’s finding some movement you love. If you enjoy it, you’re more like to do it consistently. by @roambykatie

Hip flexors, rotation, glutes core and leg strength… what more could you want from a series?!

Taught this lovely flow to my advanced girls last week.

-Hinge forward and pull the heel in, this will work the hamstrings and a bit of the hip flexors on the back leg
-Rotation for the spine
-Adding the stand in for core and leg strength (harder than it looks)

Let me know if you give it a try! by @roambykatie

Save for when you need to add some spice to your lower body series 🌶️🌶️

Take this one super slow!

- On the rotation and skater, the goal is to keep the whole body really still, except for the moving leg
-Option to keep the weights at the chest on the lunges
-The whole point is to keep the weight in the standing leg for the lunges

Really nice to add some concentrated heavier strength into classes this week, more to come 💪🏼
