Sigh. Here’s a throwback to a neighborhood place we adored: Leyenda on Smith Street in Boerum (Cobble?) Hill, Brooklyn.
This sleek cantina hit on all cylinders — excellent cocktails, great food, a terrific vibe and a talented, welcoming staff.
We absolutely loved our visits, and I feel lucky we crossed paths with this special place during our years in Brooklyn.

(These images are from a custom drawing I made for one of Leyenda’s dynamite bartenders a couple years ago. Swipe for details.)

Love ya, Leyenda. And I ain’t the only one who misses you. ❤️

The rumors are true! After a short hiatus of 9.5 years (see last picture), you can find me behind the bar @fandfrestaurant one night a week. Why? Because I enjoy it! (And a little side hustle never hurt anyone 🤪)

I'm still spending most of my time providing health and longevity coaching and writing for @thelongrun.nyc, but I wanted more social connection. Remember, the big levers you can pull to promote your health and happiness are sleep, nutrition, movement, and social connection.

Getting back behind the bar gets me moving and interacting with my community. I wasn't ready to leave bartending back in 2016, but I had an opportunity that I couldn't turn down at the time. I'm so excited to be back!

Thank you to @eringruetzm for giving me a chance and, of course, the Franks!

Come say hi! If you haven't tried the food at F&F, you're missing out!

Thanks to @corijoswanson for capturing scenes from my first shift a few weeks ago, right before we went to Spain for two weeks 😂. by @robbyhnelson

This was a requested drawing (swipe for details) that I made during those early days of Covid. Yeccch.
Prints available.

And thank you @robbyhnelson and @mrborgeson for the gig! 🍺

Today would have been my mom's 68th birthday. We lost her unexpectedly almost a month ago on February 10th. She had been recovering at a hospital from a surgery and illness. She texted me three days before she passed asking for exercises she could do in the hospital bed to help her get stronger. I happily obliged, looking forward to when she could finally return to the home she loved so much. She never got that chance.

My mom and I loved each other so much, even when we were driving each other crazy. She always expected a lot of me, but she expected more from herself. She was an uncommonly kind person who never wanted to be the center of attention, but loved working a room to talk to everyone and making sure everyone felt welcome. She was really wonderful. I'm going to miss her so much.

We gathered to celebrate her this past Saturday at the Albuquerque Museum. As a lifelong and proud Albuquerque native, I think she would have liked it. Thank you to everyone who has reached out, shared memories of my mom, donated to PBS NM or United Way of North Central NM, sent flowers, and/or held her and my family in your thoughts.

Happy Birthday, Mom. ❤️ Please do something nice for someone today in her honor. taken in Albuquerque, New Mexico by @robbyhnelson

When does 70 equal 90?

When your Garmin and your Oura disagree on how you slept (or maybe they're just drawing different conclusions).

If we use devices, they should help us make better decisions about our health. Otherwise, it's just noise.

Fortunately, I think both my Garmin and Oura provide a lot of useful information, but they are pricey and certainly not necessary for your health and longevity.

Do you have any wearables? How do they help you?

If you want the full story, check out tomorrow's Substack article (link in bio). Or learn about my coaching philosophy in last Sunday's post!
