Today is Clark Atlanta University's Homecoming game AND Howard University's Homecoming game, which means our hearts are in TWO places...❤️🖤❤️💙

So, in honor of HBCU Homecoming season, I thought I'd throw it back to a couple of weekends ago when the May family made our way to DC for Parents Weekend!

We also wanted to give our middle baby another taste of Howard University. Will this be her home next August? 👀 Somebody please get the volleyball coach on the phone and tell him to take a look at our girl! 🏐😂

Anyway, from hanging out on the Yard to enjoying some GOOD food at Busboys and Poets, to the football game where my husband had us sitting so high up we were practically sitting with Jesus himself, we had a great time. 😂🙌🏾

We ended the weekend in worship at the church our oldest has been attending in DC, and one of our newest daughters joined us making the weekend even sweeter.

Here's to family, special memories, HBCU pride, and this beautiful life we get to live! ❤️

**What did your childhood teach you to call NORMAL?** 👀

I came across a YouTube episode featuring Iyanla Vanzant working with mothers and daughters, and whew...I have some thoughts!

Especially because, over the last several years in my therapy practice, I've worked with more women navigating mother wounds than father wounds.

Watching the episode reminded me of something I wrote in Chapter 6 of *The Couture Life*.

Here's the thing, friend. So much of what we consider normal is simply what became familiar to us.

The way we communicate. How we handle conflict. What we tolerate. Even how we love and allow ourselves to be loved.

And sometimes we carry those patterns into adulthood without ever questioning them.

In this video, I'm sharing an excerpt from *The Couture Life* that I hope will encourage you to pause and consider:

Y'all. I'm on pins and needles. 😂

I keep thinking about that famous Erykah Badu line: "I'm an artist, and I'm sensitive about my "ssshhh....".

Whew. I feel that in my SOUL right now.

Because this book? This is my baby.

I've carried it, prayed over it, questioned it, worked on it, reworked it, and poured so much of myself into these pages.

My clinical experience. My faith. My personal lessons. My mistakes. The things I've learned and had to relearn.

And now, I'm getting ready to release it into the world.

And listen, my husband has read it and is convinced it's AMAZING. But y'all know how that goes. He's my husband. He's supposed to think his baby is beautiful! 😂

But underneath all the nerves is something I believe deeply.

The Couture Life isn't simply a book I want you to read. It's an experience I want you to have.

I want you to recognize patterns you've never questioned. Challenge narratives you've carried for years. Discover more clearly who God created you to be. And begin making intentional choices that honor that design.

That's why the dress form on the cover matters so much to me.

In couture fashion, the garment is designed to fit the person. The person isn't expected to change who they are to fit the garment.

And that's the heart of this book.

Discover who you are. Design how you live.

Well, my daughter said what she said! 😂 And the more I thought about it, the more I realized she was telling me something about ME.

And isn't that something? Sometimes the people closest to us reveal things about ourselves that we've gotten so accustomed to, we don't even recognize them anymore.

This one had me thinking about the roles we play, the things we carry, and why we sometimes struggle to put them down.

Because here's the thing... just because you're good at something doesn't mean you're supposed to keep doing it.

Whew! Let's talk about it.

Sometimes the very thing you're praying for God to remove is the very thing He intends to use.

And I know that's not always easy to hear. Especially when the fire is hot, the circumstances are overwhelming, and you can't see how any good could possibly come from what you're experiencing.

But here's what I know about the God we serve: He is faithful in the fire.

He will guide you. He will protect you. He will provide for you. And He can use what you are walking through in ways you cannot yet imagine.

And when you find yourself on the other side, when you look back and see how He sustained you through what you thought would consume you, don't forget who brought you through.

The fire doesn't get the final word. And you don't get all the credit. God gets the glory.

If you're walking through a fire right now, I pray this reminder strengthens your faith. ❤️

Operation Sister Surprise: Mission Accomplished! ❤️😂

Baby, talk about trying to keep a secret!

We thought their DADDY would be the one to mess everything up, but NOPE! It was Ryann talking about a suitcase in our family group chat that almost blew the whole operation! 😂

Thankfully, I was able to get Reagan's phone, delete the evidence, and keep the surprise alive! And judging by her reaction, I think we pulled it off! 🥹❤️

Having the entire Team May crew there to celebrate Reagan's senior night was EVERYTHING!

But can I tell you what really touches my heart? The bond these three girls share. Watching them love each other, show up for each other, and genuinely celebrate one another is one of the greatest joys of my life.

They have no idea how much it means to this mama's heart. ❤️

And seeing Ryann running through those hallways just to get to her sister? Yeah, that one got me. 🥹

Mission accomplished. Secret kept. Sisterhood celebrated. ❤️
