First photo dump from Lviv Ukraine. What they’re fighting for is obvious on every little alley of Old Town. It’s the same things that burst forth in the Enlightenment— free thought, free expression, the liberated current of ideas from one person to the next, from one country to the next. The sudden celebration of the intricacy of human beings. “What a piece of work is a man.” The elements of life that make us human. The arts are part of this but it’s more than that— I t’s a whole vibe, it’s baked in. There is artistry everywhere you look here, from park benches to plants on a windowsill. The realms of life and art layer themselves over each other here in the most grounding way. We’re headed to Ukraine 🇺🇦 to meet the some of veterans we’ve been working with for the past 2 years— wish us luck (and donate if you are moved or able, link in bio)! Anyway, I had to pick all my tomatoes early. Did not expect so many to ripen! Just thought they were purty by @robotmolly

Amazingly, the community-engaged theater company Rusty Thelin and I co-founded is 10 years old this year! This Day of Giving, I wanted to share what we're doing and, yeah, ask for your support if you're able!
We're currently working with Ukrainian and U.S. veterans, gathering their stories, weaving them with Ukrainian folklore, and creating theater from their mutual conversations and art they send to each other. We recently had a public, work-in-progress reading. Here are some thoughts from an American audience member:
“I was absolutely honored by the experience of being allowed to listen to the stories of the Ukrainian veterans, people, and their folktales. Your shows are always so thought provoking and truly feel like an opportunity to be dropped into someone else's shoes...
It's magic, the way you reach right to the soul of the audience. Somehow, every show feels like it’s written, directed, sung, played DIRECTLY to the individuals in the audience. Each of us, alone. All of us, together. I have tears in my eyes just thinking about how alive I feel each time I attend one of your shows...I need magic like that to remind me I'm still alive.”

On the same day, we got a letter from one of the Ukrainian participants, also in the audience that night:
“I want to express my gratitude for this incredible project. What I heard and saw on stage gave me goosebumps. There were moments when it was genuinely hard to hold back tears and emotions, because it was 100% about us…And perhaps for the first time, I truly felt that the American audience can feel and understand what is happening to us. It was incredibly powerful. I felt immense pride in being connected to these people, to this performance.
I felt, in that moment, that I am on the right path. It was a confirmation that my life, my experience — it matters. And it motivates me to keep going, to keep building.”
