I’ve been on a year long hiatus of posting any of my own skate clips because sometimes I just don’t really see the point but between all the losses and hardship recently I just desperately needed a win. So of course on the day that I have to move out I set out to learn a new trick and it was the final battle I needed to finally push myself forward. I’m closing a major chapter in my life and I wanted to share this here because you probably won’t see another hard-posted clip for quite some time due the varying nature of my new stuff.

I’ve been going through a lot so if I seem distant it’s because I just need time to heal. I will reach out in my own time, and I hope that everyone can respect that. by @rojaskillsit

Recently I had the honor of interviewing @irenesk8s who inspired these recent fisheye shots trying to give them that real grit that’s so hard to capture with modern cameras. During our conversation she describes her life in the 70s having to fight being culturally marginalized with no support from her family to becoming a respected artist in her field. Her tribute to the Brooklyn Banks being featured in the book
“Full Bleed: New York City Skateboarding Photography” showcases her impact beyond her documentation of historic skate spaces in my hometown.

In her youth she would travel to Staten Island and took the photo on the second slide of a secret ramp located in the woods. When the skateparks across the Northeast started to close there was a rise in DIY in an attempt at a final stand before letting the sport completely die. People like Irene are important because if not for her some of these things would be lost to memory as she has the only living archive of some of these locations. That’s why my documentary exists, to continue that preservation so that our borough is never forgotten.

Unfortunately shortly after filming, her puppy Zilla passed away and we’ve been broken up about it ever since. Luckily we were able to capture her essence and will immortalize her in my film to keep her memory alive. Thank you Irene for continuing to be an inspiration, a great friend, and helping with my investigation 🫶🏽 taken in Staten Island, New York by @rojaskillsit

NEW DECKS AVAILABLE AT YOUR LOCAL @RICHMONDHOODCO ⚓️🐞🗽

I’ve been riding for my local Skate Shop for over a decade and I finally had the honor of collaborating on their newest series of skateboards. We completly overhauled them into a twin shape with a 14” wheelbase.

Once they came in you know @matttakesflicks and I had to get busy and did a field test with the crew over at our local Faber Skatepark. I ended up with one of my favorite photos i’ve ever shot and tons of real-time feedback on the new boards. I hope everyone enjoys them because we’ve put a lot of thought in how these ride based on the preferences of our community. Thank you Richmond Hood for giving us the creative outlet to continue the work that you started.

If you haven’t already go order some now before they’re gone and be on the look-out for something really special i’ve been working on 🤫

YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST 🗣️

Yesterday St. George Council Member @kamillahmhanks posted this comment which has cemented her commitment to our proposal for a new Skatepark in
St. George, Staten Island, New York City. She escalated the project through capital funding allocating $5 Million for this undertaking and to say we are ecstatic to see things moving along would be an understatement.
We have all worked tirelessly to make this a reality, and without the support of our community none of this would even be possible. Thank you so much to @richmondhoodco for cultivating our partnerships with @kamillahmhanks, @nycparks, & @nycedc to make this dream come to life 🥹

We’ve known about this for quite some time but there hasn’t been any official announcements on the logistics of everything just yet.

Please make sure to follow us and join our “broadcast channel” to keep up-to-date on any further updates!! taken in Staten Island, New York by @rojaskillsit
