On today’s episode of trying things I’ve seen on Instagram 🙈🤗

P.S. to the dancers- don’t come at me for my lack of hip squareness 🫠😅

Durmitor National Park (Montenegro): Bobotov Kuk, Prutaš, Black Lake 🇲🇪
Theth National Park (Albania): Theth-Valbona Pass, Blue Eye 🇦🇱

I’d definitely recommend visiting the Balkans in May, June, September or October to avoid peak-season crowds and still catch the good weather.

Hiring a car was super convenient, but I’d recommend that your driver is competent and confident (I opted out of this one, thank you @falconfitness108 😆). Public transport is possible but from my understanding it can be quite a hassle.

Working on posting more travel content ✈️😊

From community member to community leader 🧡

There’s something really special about watching the people who make up this community grow with it.

Ruby has been part of the SSC family for a while now, showing up, sweating alongside us and being such a big part of what makes this community what it is. And now, we get to experience her in a whole new way, sharing her craft, passion and expertise by leading us through our next Sunday Sweat Club x VICTUS Soul.

A full circle moment that we couldn’t be happier about 🥹

This is what Sunday Sweat Club is all about. Creating a space where people come together, find their people, discover new things and sometimes find opportunities they never expected.

Ruby, we’re so proud to have you leading the way. Here’s to more of our community growing together. 🧡

A big thank you to @victus_soul for bringing this one to life.

Oblique superset alert!🚨

Side overs aka oblique crunches (anchor carriage)
⏰ Side overs (hands to temples): 60s
⏰ Add rotation: 60s
⏰ Rotations only: 15
⏰ Pulses: 15s

Side plank (B or Y spring)
⏰ Lateral flexion: 30s
⏰ Add rotation/thread the needle: 30s
⏰ Rotations only with knee tuck: 20s
⏰ Side plank hold: 10s

The WHAT and HOW
- Pause movement before returning to upright to maintain tension in the upper-side obliques
- Suggest experimenting with foot direction if clients are experiencing hip flexor discomfort
- Secure carriage out away from the platform for taller clients
- The QL IS working here so clients may feel it in their backs which is not necessarily a bad thing! I cue ribs to hips to help reinforce the positioning for lateral flexion

The WHY
- Using the same spinal movements in both exercises, in the same order, challenges the obliques through similar movement patterns (lateral flexion, add rotation, rotations only)
- Initially, the upper-side obliques drive the movement, contracting to lift the torso back upright. In the side plank, the underneath-side obliques work to stabilise the torso and lift against gravity. Same muscle but working in different ways. The obliques won’t be able to run away from this one 😅

*timings are just a guide but clients will probably need to pause throughout*

Your last rep should NOT look the same as your first.

Our job as trainers/coaches is to recognise when clients have more to give, and encourage them to do so safely and effectively.

We can help bridge the gap between perceived failure and TRUE muscle failure. More often than not, clients can do far more than they THINK they can, so let’s give them that confidence 🤗

How can you tell when clients are approaching failure? Here are a few things to consider.

Are the reps slowing down? Is the range of motion decreasing? Is the form starting to change as other muscles are recruited? Are they getting stuck halfway through the movement?

If the answer is no, then maybe we can step it up. Actively observe, motivate and challenge your clients to push that little bit further 🫶
