What a weekend. 🔙🤎

Being in the room for the 5th edition of @the_execbranch was such a great experience surrounded by inspiring women, incredible stories and so much expertise.

From networking & exchanging ideas to finally meeting people I’d previously only known through LinkedIn, it was a real reminder of the value of genuine connection.

I also had the opportunity to sample some fantastic products, interview inspiring women and hear more about their journeys, businesses and experiences.

But what stayed with me most was the theme of legacy.

Legacy isn’t just about what we achieve. It’s about what we create, what we start, and what we leave behind for others.

I left the room with new contacts, fresh perspectives, new ideas and plenty to reflect on.

What a room, what a day. What a LEGACY. 🤎

To every woman who walked through those doors - thank you. Legacy reminded us of something at the heart of Exec Branch: every woman has something to learn, and every woman has something to give.

And none of what you experienced in that room happens because of one person.

It takes a community to build a community.

Behind the event were people giving their time, expertise, resources, creativity and care. To @thekellykuziva @korrineskyy @mr.ochelo @clockedoutmum @shingie_fundira @rumbidzai.mutopo @mrstarirochaks @yourevent_stylist @natarie.events, our brilliant volunteers, our speakers, partners, sponsors and Experience Shapers — thank you. Over the coming days, we’ll be introducing you properly to some of the people and organisations who helped us bring this experience to life (over at @the_execbranch )

But Legacy was also an important moment for us as Exec Branch, we’ve been asking ourselves the same question - about what is our legacy. How do we make sure the knowledge in these rooms doesn’t disappear when the event ends?

How do we document our stories? How do we capture what women in our community know? How do we create a living diary of the conversations, experiences, lessons and connections being built here?

This year, we took another step towards that future with the introduction of our Exec Branch digital experience and Companion App. We’re building beyond an annual event towards a community where connection, knowledge and opportunity can continue long after we leave the room.

We also introduced our Mum & Baby area, and the response reinforced something important that innovation isn’t always about creating something complicated. Sometimes it’s recognising the barrier that keeps a woman out of the room and designing differently.

Five editions in, we’re still learning. Still listening. Still building.

Onyx fell asleep with the book still open.
And walked through every life she could build the boardroom, the classroom, the care home, the stage until she reached a door that wouldn’t open.
It didn’t need a key. It needed a ticket.

Nobody tells you that becoming yourself is a decision you have to make every single day.

Not chasing shadows. Not being a copy of someone else. Just choosing, over and over, to show up as you.

In this episode of Her Executive Diary, we sit down with @nashescorner, woman of faith, builder, purpose midwife, to talk about identity, purpose and the process of becoming.

She told me something I haven’t stopped thinking about:

“It would be a shame for your sun to set before people get to meet the real you.”

Some rooms you enter to contribute. And somehow, you leave having received just as much.

Hosting the North West Care Exchange was one of those days.

The calibre of speakers, the depth of experience and the conversations in the room reminded me that growth also looks like remaining teachable.

I had the privilege of guiding the conversations, but I was listening and learning right alongside everyone else.

And then… the suit came off, the dress came on 💃🏾

There’s something powerful about seeing Black professionals not only leading, building and doing exceptional work, but creating spaces where we can celebrate each other too.

The work matters. The learning matters as well as the joy too.

Grateful for the room. Even more grateful for what I took away from it @north_west_care_exchange ✨

I love my career.

I’ve worked hard for it, I’m still ambitious about it, and there is so much more I want to achieve.

But somewhere along the way, I realised I also wanted to build beyond it.

I wanted ownership.
I wanted additional income.
I wanted to create things that could outlive a job title.
I wanted to invest.
I wanted to contribute to Africa.
I wanted to create rooms and opportunities that didn’t exist before.
I wanted my family to have more options because of the decisions I made.

And I know I’m not the only woman who thinks like this.

You can want the promotion AND the business.
The salary AND the assets.
The career AND the community.
Success now AND something meaningful to leave behind.

So much of what I’m building today sits somewhere in that intersection.

Career. Ownership. Africa. Community. Wealth. Legacy.

And I’m finally ready to talk about all of it. by @ruthkudzai

There are conversations that change the direction of your career.

And then there are conversations that change the way you see yourself.

This one caught me reflecting on the people who have challenged my thinking, held up the mirror when I couldn’t see it, and reminded me that growth isn’t always about learning something new. Sometimes it’s about becoming who you’ve been capable of all along.

Tomorrow’s episode is for every woman who’s ever wondered, “Am I playing smaller than I need to?”
