A quick escape up the coast after a busy conference week. So good to be back in Ericeira, walking the familiar streets and showing @justin_abba around a place I once called home, even if just for a short while.

The detail in old European architecture is something else. The tiles, the patterns, the character. Every building seems to tell a story, even in the smallest building. I’d love to see this kind of detail brought back into the modern world. 🏛️

That’s a wrap on SBC Summit 2026 🇵🇹

Another incredible conference week in Portugal, and this year it was great to have some of my teammates alongside me to share the experience.

It’s a full-on week. Over 110km covered. Averaging 20,000 steps a day, with packed conference days followed by dinners with partners. Safe to say we made the most of it.

What continues to impress me is the scale of SBC and the effort that goes into showcasing the industry at the highest level. It’s also a reminder of the importance of relevancy and keeping up with the times. With technology and AI moving so quickly, there’s always something new to learn and plenty of opportunity ahead.

A successful week, great company, plenty of new ideas and even more motivation to keep raising the bar. 🚀 by @ry_aspo

Every now and then you’ve got to swap the usual for something a little beyond.

The only downside to this trip was being on the wrong side of the tides for the whole stay. Most breaks around Lakey need a mid to full tide. The peak is surfable on low, but gets very sketchy. During peak season, the winter swell comes with trade winds. Early mornings are generally light winds and perfect offshore. Throughout the day the cross-shore winds will pick up, which tends to ruffle the face of the waves. Some pros wait for this window to practice big ramps, often called “air winds”.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We finally had our first mid tide morning on the one day we needed to catch a flight back to Bali.
We had a 40 minute window for waves, so we took it. On the boat at 5:30am, surfed for 45 minutes, back at the accommodation by 7am, and off to the airport at 7:30.
For 30 of those minutes, we had some incredible waves completely to ourselves. Couldn’t have asked for a better way to finish the trip in Lakey.

Every trip gives you something different. And sometimes, it gives you just enough to make sure you have to go back. 🌊

No barrel shot. No crazy clip.

But plenty of incredible waves ridden, a few beatings, and a couple key takeaways for the next mission.
