What an awesome first trip to Canada working with the musicians at the Prairie Music Residency! It was a jam packed week of rehearsals, masterclasses and performances by myself and the delegates. 🥁

“The sound and design of Pearl/Adams instruments perfectly mirror my own approach to percussion — precision, musicality, and expressive depth. Whether behind a drum set or a marimba, their instruments elevate my performance and allow me to communicate with clarity and artistry.”

Emily has performed and premiered several works with various ensembles such as the National Chinese Orchestra Taiwan, Twin Lakes Duo, and the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra. Her current project, Well Behaved Women Seldom Make History, features solos written by female composers [Jennifer Jolley, Molly Joyce, Shruthi Rajasekar, and Juri Seo] dedicated to female percussionists [Evelyn Glennie, Margie Hyams, Keiko Abe, Terri Lyne Carrington] whose careers helped shape the field of percussion into what it is today.

Dr. Emily Salgado is currently the Assistant Professor of Percussion at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she teaches both graduate and undergraduate applied lessons, directs the percussion ensemble and Nebraska Steel, and teaches other courses in percussion. Additionally, she serves on the University Pedagogy Committee and the Diversity Alliance as part of the Percussive Arts Society.

I am incredibly excited to announce Series 2 of my Well Behaved Women Seldom Make History commissioning project!! See below for more info about the Series 2 composers, percussionists, and how to join the consortium.

My consortium titled Well Behaved Women Seldom Make History highlights percussionists Nancy Zeltsman and Patsy Dash whose careers have made substantial impacts on the percussion community. Composers @alexislamb26 and @drglockenav will be writing solos in honor of Nancy and Patsy respectively.

My goal is not only for these solo pieces to become staples within the percussion canon but also to highlight the power and strength of the female percussionist. This project will be a collaboration to give other percussionists the opportunity to help support and spread its vision. Each performance is an active way to outwardly express support for the project and equal representation within the percussion community.
