Today’s #slowcamera: whoa amazing. Seeing the #EncounterOfEastAndWest performance by the #NationalChineseOrchestraTaiwan and accompanying soloists! Along with an opening and closing concerto by the orchestra, there were four paired concertos featuring corresponding woodwind, percussion, and string instrumentalists (i feel like the piano and Yangqin are a mix of string and percussion all their own) and dang they were just too cool. I hope a recording is released some day because I would definitely want to re-listen to those performances again!

𝙎𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙞𝙤 𝙎𝙥𝙤𝙩𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩: Emily Salgado
Personal: @salgadoemily
Duo: @catch22percussion

Hi, my name is Emily Salgado and I’m in the second year of my DMA. I received my Bachelors in music education from Furman University and my Masters in music performance from Florida State University. I’m originally from SC and love to do anything outdoors like hiking and camping. My favorite fast food restaurant is Chick-fil-A and my favorite ice cream flavor is mint chocolate. My favorite performance experience at Michigan is when I premiered a double percussion concerto with the National Chinese Orchestra of Taiwan in October of 2019.

Checkout Catch XXII Duo, a chamber ensemble between current graduate student Emily Salgado (DMA ’22) and Layne Mauldin. The duo’s current recording project, The Trevino Project, is a multi-year endeavor that will result in a collection of composer Ivan Trevino’s percussion duets. The group is thrilled to be heading to Dallas, TX this July (hopefully!) to record Trevino’s newest duet, “Seesaw,” in collaboration with 2x1 Media and the New Works Project. Catch XXII told us, “we are grateful for the support from the EXCEL Enterprise Fund, and we look forward to sharing the final product in the near future.” For more information, please check out their website at catch22duo.com #umichsmtd #smtdEXCEL #dostuff #goblue #music #duo #percussion #chambermusic
