Known as a leading figure in contemporary classical music, @brycedessner’s residency with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra is drawing to a powerful close.

Taking the stage as guitarist at City Recital Hall, these dynamic performances cover a specialised and highly praised suite of Dessner’s compositions from ‘Ayhem’ to ‘Impermanence’ 🎼

Two sold-out Sydney shows. One packed Canberra show. And a whole lot of Steve Reich!

Thank you to everyone who came along to Reich: Rejoice: Repeat over the weekend. It was such a thrill to share this exhilarating, challenging and completely addictive music with you — and from the energy in the room, it seemed like you were having just as much fun as we were!

A special thank you to our brilliant guest artist Gabi Sultana, who travelled all the way from Malta to join us. Your performance was truly unforgettable. And thank you to Sam Weller and Richard Cilli for making the performances so special. We couldn’t have done it without you.

We’re already missing it. And yes, we’d happily do it all again. But for now, we hope to see you at our final performances for the year: Avant Gardens Spring, Ngarra Burria Gala, and Future Classics. Head to our website to find out more, link in bio.

Bit of a crazy last minute thing - I’ll be joining the formidable @sydneysymphonyorchestra for concerts in Sydney and Melbourne with the amazing @brycedessner in September. Whats even cooler is that he will be onstage with us on the guitar!

Definitely excited for this one as it’s the orchestra I grew up with - mum and I used to have a subscription.

In 2027 I’ll be back with the SSO fellows side by side with the orchestra playing Schoenberg, Copland, Stravinsky and HK Gruber. Very relaxing music.

I can’t believe that in 2027 I will be working at my favourite place in the world!

In May this year I met the @operaaustralia company for the first time during their 70th Bday Gala. Next year they have entrusted me with performances of Mozart’s Magic Flute: 4 shows at @sydneyoperahouse and full carriage of the Melbourne season at the newly renovated @artscentremelbourne - the deal needn’t be any sweeter but in Melbourne we will perform with @orchestravictoria again who are disgustingly good.

I’ll bring my late teacher Kenneth’s beautiful performing score for Magic Flute to Australia - I’m sure he will teach me a lot.

Friends & Music Maxxing in Melbourne. Have made it back to Amsterdam; and for all those interested the coffee machine made it back too!

Last 10 days in Australia were soooo good - made possible by amazing friends, amazing musicians and also friends that are amazing musicians! Extremely grateful to the brilliant ensemble of @operaaustralia and the superb @orchestravictoria - generosity and skill abounds!!! See you both again soon 👀

Yesterday, the sound of orchestral music filled the heart of the city as we celebrated two milestones – 90 years of the ASO and 50 years of @rundlemall.

Hundreds of you stopped, gathered, listened, and shared this very special moment with us, as 55 ASO players turned the mall into an open-air concert hall.

Thank you so much to all our friends old and new who joined us for ‘Behind Me Is The Dark’

We were so happy to share this music with you - we hope that you experienced new sounds and were enchanted by the ensembles musicianship. It was so rewarding to perform this music to an audience after hours and hours of preparation behind the scenes.

Not every conductor can say they made their Opera House conducting debut as a teenager, but Sam Weller can. His journey is anything but ordinary. For this week’s In Conversation, we talked about Ensemble Apex, the orchestra he formed at university which is still going strong, and the realities and challenges of learning the craft of conducting in Australia and Europe.
