Dear Huxley,
I love you so much.🌞🌞
From the day you came home, just eight weeks old, you were my baby. You came to ski races tucked inside my jacket. Anyone who knows me knows you. You were half of my personality. You were who I was.
When my siblings graduated and left home, it went from being all of us to just you and me. You kept me company.
When I graduated, you were my favorite part of coming home.
When I went home for Thanksgiving this year, I left excited to see you again at Christmas. I never thought that when I came back, I would only see your empty bed. When I walk through the door, I won’t hear your claws clicking against the hardwood floor as you are running to greet me. I won’t smell your presence in the air. I won’t see your beautiful red coat flash toward me and your perfect brown eyes lighting up.

We went on so many adventures together. Hours-long walks by the ocean, mountain runs that I only ever wanted to do with you. You always ran ahead, but you waited for me. I packed extra gummy bears for you so you could have a treat at the top. I already dread the day I go for a mountain run without you by my side. 🏔️🌞

You were still just a baby to me. Only eight years old. I knew you were getting older, but I never believed I would actually lose you. I know you held on for as long as you could. It hurts me to know you hid your pain in exchange for our happiness, but that was who you were. Always trying to make everyone else okay. A people pleaser to the very end.
You always comforted me when I cried, but now it is you I am crying about. I know you would hate to see me crying without you, but for once, I can’t help it.☹️

I am so grateful for you, and for every moment we had together. I am happy you are no longer in pain, even though I wish more than anything that you could have lived forever.

I will miss you every single day.

YAY to another national training camp with my faves, so grateful to train our hearts out all week with eachother ❤️❤️
highlights: putting glitter on THE @jessiediggins ✨✨✨🪩, matching with with the girls all week, SWAGGG, the fruit snacks weren't all grape (iykyk), seeing @murphykimball_ and of course, gobbling chef steve's gas dinners 😋😋😋 👨‍🍳😔🥒🥕🐟🥗🥠🫐🍌
