acting will never be reliable.

there I said it.

so if you know you need other streams of income let’s get realistic…  🎟️ how do you find it:

your side hustle is probably already hiding in your life.

don’t neglect looking at your current day job. what are you already the go-to person for? the nanny who meal-preps. the bartender everyone vents to. the coworker who fixes the spreadsheet. that’s a skill people pay for.

dig up an old “just a hobby.” the thing you were told wasn’t a real job? look at it again.

and yes, look at your actor skills. reader, reel editor, ugc creator, host... actors have more marketable skills than we think.

make a list.  
🎟️how do you make money from it:

start with beta clients (people you know)

offer it free, as a trade, or super low, and in exchange you get feedback and testimonials.

once you’ve got a few under your belt, move your betas and the friends and family who keep coming back to an og rate, and let them keep it.

new clients pay your normal rate.  
and when people are asking for more of your time than you have, that’s your sign to raise it.

part of the reason we feel so strongly about about side hustles is because we have done perhaps too many…

like these ones we are only now able to talk about and laugh at…

how can i handle this?

- because i have made my day-to-day income constantly outside of acting. so rolling with the punches is my go-to.

it’s not what i pictured, but i am SO grateful for my self-made day jobs…they give me the ability to be making pretend sandwiches at 11:30am on a tuesday while my business is running in the background.

comment * bootcamp * if you’re ready to stop trying to have acting save you…cause this acting business will only morph / grow / change more. and i can’t depend on that to feed my dogs. by @samvalentine

side jobs are the reason i am able to be an actor. but they shouldn’t own your energy (or entire life force)

this weekend we (myself + @gabriellebyndloss) are hosting two days of “watch when you can” videos and then a live planning session, all built around side hustles to improve your acting career long-term.

🚨do not join if you…🚨
- want to pretend money is not important
- enjoy the “starving artist” mentality
- think being a successful actor means only acting
- are mean to service workers (this is just a me-thing tbh)

it’s not fair but it’s REAL

acknowledging your playing field and taking away the comparison to your fellow actor will help you establish a level head and better decision making skills
