We are an hour into our Retreat for The Membership and one of our members got an audition.

This Retreat is all about connecting to yourself again. Stepping out of your to-do list and finding a place to feel comfortable in where you’re at
in your acting career NOW.

We didn’t plan on doing anything that has to do with Acting and everything that has to do with connection

But when one of us gets an audition… We all come together and show out to make sure that that’s the priority.

& that’s my favorite thing about getting together with these women in person. It’s women wanting women to succeed and industry, where they constantly try to put us against each other

One thing about me is I'm going to have a good time especially when I'm hanging out with cool people.

Got to talk all things #impostorsyndrome on the Working Actor Life Podcast with Sam Valentine and Gabrielle Byndloss.

Being an actor isn't for everyone and the way the profession works you have to have a good understanding of who you are at all times so that you aren't consumed by impostorism.

We aren’t sugar coating on this. There is no way to avoid this spiral that we walk through the second we get an avail check or a hold.

Like are we all insane for being okay with enduring this pain?

….asking for a friend

your brain doesn’t stop looking for feedback just because you told it to. 🧠

so in a slow season it starts manufacturing it. and that manufactured feedback is never kind.

@samvalentine fix for this is so simple and so good — a compliments folder. real proof. actual receipts. for when your brain starts lying to you.
your first thought is not a fact. it’s just a habit. 🤍

do you have a compliments folder? tell me below 👇

if I had to restart my acting career from scratch in 2026 — first I would cry. 😂
but after that? two things.

curate your social media feed. what you consume crafts what your brain does. mute people. unfollow people. it still says you follow them — they just stop showing up in your reality.

burn your timeline. write out every benchmark you think you’re supposed to hit and question every single one. agent by 25. series regular by 30. why? what actually happens if you don’t?

the mental playing ground of this job IS the job. and the sooner you get real that it won’t look the way you think — the better. 🤍

we are constantly battling a feedback loop that doesn’t exist. 🎙️

because you do the work. you turn it in. and then you hear nothing.

and the hard part is that silence doesn’t mean you were bad. if 100 people audition for something — which is a low number — 99 of them don’t get the job. and 99 of those people are not bad at their craft. they just didn’t get that one job.

but if you choose the feedback loop that says every time I don’t get something I did something wrong — you’re going to spiral. and that’s not a useful place to create from.

I’m coming off of three of the craziest VO years I’ve ever had and this year has been slow. really slow. and I’m much more mentally prepared this time around because I’ve been here before. I’ve been up. I’ve been down. I know what I need to do to not abandon myself in the thick of it.

creating your own feedback in a career that gives you almost none is one of the hardest parts of this job. and one of the most necessary. 🤍
