New PR for @alexisweston16 💪

She’s 10. She’s a dancer. She’s motivated. She’s strong.

We started working together in June. Coming off the tail end of her competitive dance season, we got right to work on strength development in the gym.

This week is max out week and even though she’s relatively new to training, we decided to give it a go and see what she could do.

No surprises here - a 95lbs deadlift and a 50lbs strict press (she was soooo close to getting 55lbs!!).

Her focus and determination to try has supported her training the whole time. I don’t know many clients that gush over their favourite strength exercises every week or begs to do reverse sled pulls! But she does and it’s sooo awesome to see such enthusiasm in a young athlete.

As her dance season restarts soon, we will continue on the strength path until January. Performance and competition season starts in February and that is when we will switch to maintenance, until her season ends again in June.

It’s a busy season and recovery is ULTRA important to help mitigate injury, and burnout. This is why developing a strength foundation in the off season is SO important for dancers. And, it’s no different for an athlete in soccer, rugby, or swimming. Why treat it any different for a dancer?

Share some love and encouragement for Lexi in the comments!

Here’s a teaser of weeks 1-2 of summer training 🏋️‍♀️

What does off season dance training look like 2-3x a week?

🔸Developing Strength
🔸Developing Speed
🔸Addressing Weaknesses
🔸Recovery Days
🔸Time to Enjoy Summer ☀️

The summer is almost over, but it’s never too late to introduce strength training into your schedule.

FUNdamentals!

Students (6-8yrs old) in our FUNdamentals stage of our LTAD Program at Engineered Bodies will continue to build their self confidence through our movement-quality based curriculum as they continue to dive deeper into their physical literacy, body awareness, coordination, fundamental movement skills, mental focus through engaging movement games, challenges, and play. In addition to this, students will start to learn to incorporate the basics of run, jump, throw activities in non sports-specific challenges.

Here they are, tackling various movements, while working with teammates 💪

This kiddo has been training with us since he was 3. Started out in our Active Start class, then into Fundamentals, and about a year ago we moved him into our Learn to Train program.

Our Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) program is designed to provide a progressive framework for the development of every child, youth, and teen to enable optimal participation in physical activity, training, and sport. It takes into account growth, maturation and development, train-ability, and sport system alignment.

Start em young and see what they can do 💪

Check out our youngest L2T (Learn to Train) kiddos! Starting class with weightlifting technique then finishing with a tough WOD 💪 The idea of giving up couldn’t touch these two. They crushed it and should be so proud of their achievements in training. With PRs in various skills each week, I’ve gotta say, I’m impressed and grateful to be part of their courageous journey! …we’re still working on keeping our eyes forward and not watching coach though haha.

As an NCCP certified Weightlifting coach, I am focused on providing a challenging, yet safe, environment for our youth athletes. Whoever said fitness wasn’t for kids is missing out on the power it can provide them. Confidence, teamwork, strength, and self awareness are all byproducts of a healthy fitness program for kids.

Interested in finding out more about our youth programs? Leave a 🏋️‍♀️ in the comments or shoot me a DM!

💪Try it!

16 min EMOM
Min 1: Gorilla Rows
Min 2: KB Cleans
Min 3: Russian Twists
Min 4: Rest!

Do as many reps as you can throughout each minute. DON’T put the KB down during the cleans. Try to use the same weight for all exercises.

🟠 ICYMI

First week of classes doing all things kettlebell at @engineeredbodies has been a blast!

Here’s a taste of how the Thursday class wrapped up their hour. A 20 minute AMRAP - 10 KB cleans, farmer carry, 10 over the KB burpees, farmer carry. Rinse and repeat. Give it a try!

2021 was the last time I went for a 1RM for anything…I think. Today I had the opportunity to try for front squat and it ended up being more than I anticipated! 60kg/132lbs. Thanks for the cheers everyone!!

Well, as much as I was annoyed by the mishaps that inevitably happen with weightlifting today, I sure do feel more solid with my C&J technique.

For every shitty training session, there are a handful of learning opportunities and small wins that should be accounted for.

Today, my jerks were not consistent when the weight increased, however, in general, they were WAAAAAAY more powerful. That’s a win as I typically struggle to utilize my power.

The journey continues 🏋️‍♀️

Great weekend for our athletes at the 1st Annual Junior Spring Open! 🏋️‍♀️ A full day of coaching, reffing, and supporting all the incredibly talented and brave youth athletes who came out to compete! Read on to find out how all of our athletes did!
.
Posted @withregram • @engineeredbodies We hosted our first Annual Junior Spring Open Saturday, May 7th with 40 athletes from across the province. This event is going to be an annual fundraiser competition to support our efforts in our continued development of junior weightlifting and community outreach with the goal of growing junior @bcweightlifting representation and increasing the participation of youth and juniors in the sport.

Weightlifting, when coached by certified @coach.ca NCCP and experienced coaches, is a safe and inclusive sport that can serve as a foundation for any other sport or activity. Our members and parents know this but we need to do a better job to educate parents and sport coaches so that they know the benefits too.

Our juniors had a great competition:
Charlotte (youth F45) - 33/44 🥈
Maddy (youth F49) - 37/47 🥇
Lainey (youth F55) - 34/50 🥉
Annie (junior F64) - 52/65 🥇*
Taylen (junior F59) - 43/52 🥇*
qualified for Junior Nationals
Teghvir (youth M49) - 19/24 🥉
Lincoln (youth M61) - 22/30 🥉
Jodhvir (youth M67) - 28/42 🥈
Ethan (youth M73) - 43/48 🥉
Jaden (youth M81) - 28/38 🥇
Ryan (junior M96) - 100/140 🥇*

*qualified for Junior Nationals

We also came away with the Best Team award 🏆🤩

Big thanks to the local companies supporting our cause: @zeusfitnessinc , @trulocal , @thelittlebutcherpomo and @impact_athletics_ Thank you for investing in the future of weightlifting!

We could not have done this without our amazing volunteers. Huge shout out and thanks to Coach @sara.moves, @laura.jean94 , @ptpintos , @ericyichen98 , Srini, @silvialiftsweights , @_ssimpson_ @ryan_kimoto @pomopaleo , @coachconnie.k @drkayvonk , Coach Dan, @lionsweightlifting (coaches), @david_acland , and Mike (Annie's dad) ❤️❤️
