A day in DLTA, futzing around with my new #campsnappro, documenting the perpetual juxtaposition of lack and abundance, of seeing and not seeing. #saritphotography #femalephotographer by @saritphoto

I am so grateful to celebrate 16 years married to חיים שלי, Joseph! We went to @carmelmelrose which is truly my favorite restaurant in LA. (Ps, the Shakshuka is up there with the Bread, and that says a lot! IYKYK).

Nothing like being with my love and being in an alive and beautiful environment. We adventured to BH to Taschen, another sensory delight.

My family is small and so sacred to me. Resting into the company of Joseph and just knowing how much he has my back feels so safe.

Shabbat Shalom. שבת שלום

I’m writing this on behalf of my son, Jake. He left his apartment Monday morning to start a new job. He was excited and looking forward to starting anew. Instead, he found that his truck had been stolen. I don’t know if it’s the smarts of his generation or the technology we have now or all of it, but he had AirTags on it which enabled the police to locate it. Phew. While he got it back, there are nearly $2000 in repairs. They also left a gift of sh*t on his seat. I can’t make this up!

The bad news:
There is a ton of damage to the truck.
We had to pay out of pocket to fix it.
He didn’t have comprehensive insurance, which is the only insurance offering that would cover this.
On top of all of that is the felt sense of violation from having one’s car stolen. The lack of fairness and compassion from the powers that be that just shakes its head at you after the stolen property has been found. It’s truly a shame.

In an effort to allow Jake to recoup costs and pay us back along with the ability to get a different vehicle, we are creating this GoFundMe!

Every little bit counts and is helpful. Thank you for considering!
Love,
Sarit and Jake by @saritphoto

Commentary on America…

The United States is in Distress.

I’m a grandchild and great grandchild of Immigrants. The US is a country that is filled with the beautiful diversity of immigrants.

And yet:
The US is deporting and arresting.

I went out for a bit today to check on LA. A city I was born and raised in. It’s a sad state we’re in, y’all.

We still have Marines in Los Angeles. On the Fourth of July.

We have graffiti spray painted on concrete blaming Israel for the LAPD.

(Anyone interested in helping me remove that nonsense?)

We have protesters in front of MDCLA, along with National Guard and Marines. Nothing good is going to come of this mess.

We have Keffiyah Karens demonstrating with death calls, and wearing their Kipling backpacks. Terror isn’t fashion.

Everywhere I look, I see rage. I see calls for the death of others.

I see the conflation of two very different issues.

I see fear. Anger. Sadness. Grief. I have seen the Cosplay of terror.

I’ve been an activist since I was small. I’ve marched and raged and chanted and pushed back. Hell, I still do, minus the rage.

I hate what is happening. It breaks my heart to see mothers, brothers, sisters, fathers, cousins, aunties, uncles, etc., being torn away from their families because of this administration.

I also loathe the calls for death. I loathe the antisemitism that is woven into this issue. I loathe that I, a proud Jewish woman, hasn’t felt safe enough to support any of these protests.

I leave you with this:
From Emma Lazarus, a Jewish poet whose poem sits on the Statue of Liberty:
(An excerpt)
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Love being in @muckrock’s studio space. Her work demonstrates Brilliant local art rooted jn my stomping grounds of Venice / Southside SM. I’ve seen her art all over LA and not been to the studio. No reason other than it hasn’t happened until today when I wanted to take my dear friend / collaborator in art @daniellaetelcourban to see Muck Rock’s art. Next time I hope to meet Muck and the Bloodhounds…… #saritphotography #femalephotographer #artist #venice #muckrock #notaweaponofmassperfection #jewishphotographers #jewsinrecovery by @saritphoto

Calls for protests at Tesla dealerships etc… Santa Monica was pretty quiet… wonder how other spots were? Would love to see a shift in the moral compass in the world. It’s disturbing seeing the “wealthiest man in the world” having access to so much power.
