Bringing this back. Why? Because we are really in a place where we need all the tools to keep our selves from losing it entirely.

Use what serves you and leave the rest behind.

It’s not about being calm all the time.

We are not supposed to be and that would not be realistic.

The truth is, the world is truly in a state. We have to be able to tend to ourselves in the midst of it all.

More soon.

Love,
Sarit

The Jewish People are being asked the unthinkable:
To sit silently and maintain integrity while people around us are screaming for our death. I find that to be a contradiction and double standard because any other marginalized group would be protected.
🪬
I’ve been asked to manage my own activation instead of honoring the fact that I am naturally activated because people are calling for our death.
🪬
I won’t ask this of you.
🪬
This is not to say that we don’t need to work with our activation, but vilifying it is not acceptable
🪬
We have a right to be upset and angry and sad and grieving and fierce in order to set the boundaries necessary to protect ourselves.
🪬
I’m offering in person sessions now in Venice, CA, and online via Zoom. If you need support, I’m here. We need each other right now.

Love,
Sarit

These are overwhelming times.

𝙸𝚃'𝚂 𝙾𝙺 𝙽𝙾𝚃 𝚃𝙾 𝙱𝙴 𝙾𝙺

Even I get overwhelmed these days. And there are moments when the tools I have seem to be in a locked box in another room. Human, being human is hard.

It can look and feel like this:

🩵Heart racing
👀 Darting eyes
🌬️Hard to breathe
❗️Hypervigilant
🍳Loss of appetite
🪀Fidgeting
😵‍💫Difficulty concentrating
😤Irritable/Snappy
🙄Impatient

Instead of dismissing your overwhelm, or vilifying the overwhelm of someone else, try some of these:

☎️Phone a friend – Social engagement
👯‍♂️Mobilize
🚶🏽‍♀️Take a walk
🧘🏽‍♀️Do some asana (sun salute, warrior flow
🪇Shake it out, bounce
🐅Voo / Voo with Rawr
🤦🏻‍♀️Self contact
Ex: Hand to heart + hand to belly/solar plexus
💃🏽Orient to healthy pleasure
🎶Sing!
🎨Make some art

In other words:
𝙶𝙸𝚅𝙴 𝙸𝚃 𝚂𝙾𝙼𝙴𝚆𝙷𝙴𝚁𝙴 𝚃𝙾 𝙶𝙾

How do we deal with frustration in a healthy way? Here are a couple Somatic Experiencing®️tips to support #healthyagression:

1: guppy breaths: soften your jaw by gently opening and closing it a few times.

What happens next?

2: Do some growling. Let your jaw really move like a lion or tiger, imagine even biting into a crisp apple (that jaw movement) and make some sound: rawrr!!! 🐅🦁

What do you notice now?

3: Get your arms involved and imagine sweeping the area to create a boundary.

What do you notice now?

Yes, these things might feel silly; weird, etc. but let me ask you this:

Would you rather be weird for a moment and feel better or avoid the weird and feel meh?

A little trick from me, @saritzrogers, to help us settle our nervous systems after sitting in traffic or being in a stressful environment. Enjoy!

🥰 move your jaw — like a guppy, slow open and close, to interrupt stress in the body

The bruising on my heart hasn’t eased up, not for 3 years.
The hostages came home.
Part of them left behind in the dank dark tunnels of abhorrence,
Never to return.
You can see the shadows in the eyes, the tightness in the jaw, the collapse in the shoulders, the bracing throughout the soma.
The Soma…
Our record-keeper of terror and horror tangled together like knots in a chain.
Our record-keeper of rupture and repair.
Our record-keeper of grief, cascading abundantly through sinew and bone.

We buried our dead, what was left of them.
We cried and stood back up
Chazak
Koach
Gevurah
Emunah
But inside, it’s shadows creeping along the hot sand,
Hot wind, blowing dust in the eyes of our souls.
Stiff upper lips and small worlds
Grief, what an old friend you are.
Silent weeping
Indignation
Fury…
We sing, we pray:
We rend our hearts wide open : Hitbodedut
And there we find hope….
יהיה זיכרונם ברוך

Some Somatic self contact practices to support your nervous system when you’re feeling overwhelmed, when you need a little extra support. For many of us, this week carries a lot of weight and grief. These practices can help us take a pause, tend to our hearts, give ourselves a small break in the midst of everything that’s going on in our lives..

We want to hear from you!

Resources are anything that helps us feel :

👉🏽 More like we want to feel: less anxious, depressed, disconnected
👉🏽More alive
👉🏽Embodied
👉🏽Connected
👉🏽Playful

So, what does happen in the body when we are exposed to nonstop Jew hatred and negative rhetoric?

For me, Sarit, it feels like a rush of heat and tightness. It feels like the pressure of tears and clenched fists. It feels like shallow breaths and hyper focus.

What did / do I do?

👉🏽I set a boundary and stopped looking at the articles and posts re Macklemore and Ed Sheeran and Robert Kraft. I had to. The perpetuation of the unanswerable “why” is tiresome.

👉🏽I slowed down.
👉🏽I oriented to my surroundings.
👉🏽I felt the support of what I’m sitting on.
👉🏽And I allowed my nervous system to grace to downregulate.

It takes time. More than this reel. 10-20 min if there are no interruptions!

Can you take 10 min for yourself?
How do you downregulate?

Love,
Sarit

Wishing you all Shabbat Shalom שבת שלום and Shana Tova v’umetuka שנה טובה ומתוקה. I wish you all ease and sweetness as we bring in 5787. What I love about being Jewish and experiencing our sacred holidays, is that it requires deep self reflection on a very somatic level. It asks us to really touch into the depths of ourselves, to reflect and to make space for healing and repair.

Love,
Sarit

Trauma interrupts our ability to recognize safety and/or threat. Social media sucks us into defensive orienting patterns, locking us in, pulling us into rabbit holes. I want to offer you a basic skill to use to support your nervous system!

1: 🛑 what you’re doing
2: 👀 around you, notice 5 things in your environment that are pleasant or neutral, that support your well being, perhaps even make you feel alive!
3: If Visual orienting doesn’t work: touch 5 things either on yourself or in your environment.
4: Notice any shifts that occur:
•Deeper Breath
•Softer shoulders
•More saliva in your mouth
•Slower Heart rate

You deserve to feel less activated and less overwhelmed!
Love,
Sarit
