The ghosts have a name.

Ghosts of the Hatchery is my original play directed by Ren Langer.

A dark eco-comedy about a Black scientist, an abandoned salmon hatchery, and the ghosts of salmon’s past.

Coming Fall 2026 to the Georgetown Steam Plant.

🐟✨ WE OPENED. I’m a marine biologist and performing artist who wrote a play — and somehow, this weekend, I got to watch it come alive onstage.

Ghosts of the Hatchery (@ghostsofthehatchery )is my original play, created through my Artist-in-Residence work at the Georgetown Steam Plant, produced by yours truly, directed by Ren Langer. It brings together fisheries science, environmental storytelling, theater, ghosts, and a whole lot of salmon.

Getting to see this story — and this Black girl fisheries science magic — onstage has been surreal.💅🏾✨🐟

We’re also officially sold out for all shows, with the waitlist growing.

I’m so grateful to everyone who has helped me bring this weird, wonderful thing to life, and to everyone who has shown up to experience it.

Still processing. Still beaming at this work coming to life.

@georgetownsteamplant located in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle, was constructed in 1906 for the Seattle Electric Company to provide power for Seattle, notably for streetcars.The plant was designed to run on either coal or oil, but shortly after it was built, hydropowerbecame the primary source of energy for the region. The plant operated until 1977 when it was completely decommissioned.

Since its decommissioning, building owner Seattle City Light (SCL) has worked to preserve, repair and restore the building. Under SCL’s management, the Georgetown Steam Plant has been recognized as a National Historic Landmark (1984), Seattle Landmark, HistoricMechanical Engineering Landmark (1980) and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Today, the Georgetown Steam Plant goal is to create an immersive history experience, iconic event space, and center for SHTEAM (Science, History, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) education programming within the space.

I had the privilege of first crossing paths with @xochitlclare, who had a table set up at one of @georgetownsteamplant open houses where you can explore the steam plant on your own or as part of a tour. @xochitlclare table featured @scistoriesproject where she worked with you to create Ocean Improv Poetry. This is how I learned about her play, Ghosts of the Hatchery (@ghostsofthehatchery), was by her social media and knew it would be an amazing show.

✨ This Baddie on Sabbatie's experience went like this ✨

First time I heard about Ghosts of the Hatchery was the beginning of September.

It was only running for two weekends and when I went to sign-up all slots were full! So I joined the waitlist on October 1st for the second weekend's showing on Friday and Sunday.

October 3rd: Got a text I made it off both waitlists. Decided to go with Sunday's matinee show at 2pm. Received an email with our tickets inside.

October 5th: Received a "Quick Note" email.

October 11th: Arrived at 1:45pm to check-in, explore the other tables before seating opened for the show.

Free parking is available when you visit. Their website has a tab for all upcoming events.

Spooky debut. 👻🐟~~My original play, “Ghosts of the Hatchery”, is officially alive and we are in FULL production swing.

I’m so excited to be kicking off my art residency @georgetownsteamplant and producing this little creature through SciStories Project (@scistoriesproject ). There are SO many people who have supported me getting this thing from sketches > script > actual humans in a spooky hatchery, and I cannot wait to share all of that with you.

There are MANY updates coming. Cast announcements soon. Crew announcements soon. Probably an unreasonable amount of salmon content soon.

But for now, here are a few little peeks from the first days of bringing this thing to life. 🥹

Some places already have a story.

“Ghosts of the Hatchery” is coming to the Georgetown Steam Plant — a former industrial power plant with a history of its own.

Over the years, this place has been filled with art, music, science, community, and people. This fall, we’re adding a haunted hatchery to the mix.

Concrete, machinery, water, industry—And a whole lot of salmon.

October 2–4 & 9–11, 2026.

The Ocean Improv Poetry Table has officially evolved into a ~~full-blown Artist-in-Residence at the Georgetown Steam Plant!~~🌊✨👻

What started as a little table for ocean poetry, improv, and community storytelling has grown into something much, much bigger — and I have SO much to share with you all.

This fall, I’ll be bringing my original play “Ghosts of the Hatchery” to life at the Steam Plant, with an incredible cast + crew and a whole lot of weird, wonderful ocean science along the way.
