👻💙WE GOT REVIEWED. Ghosts of the Hatchery got some love from The Sound on Stage!

Who knew a comedy about haunted salmon could hit so deep?! 🐟

Sameer Arshad (@sameerican_dream ) shines a light on the deeper themes of our little haunted salmon parable. Thank you for such powerful writing and for seeing the heart of what we created. 💙

👻 THE HATCHERY IS CLOSED. FOR NOW. That’s a wrap on our first run of Ghosts of the Hatchery!

A special shout-out to our stage manager, Loki Hamilton (@loki._.backstage ) for helping carry this production through its final weeks and seeing us through strike. Theatre takes so much work behind the scenes, and we’re grateful for the people who keep everything moving when the ghosts are running wild. 🛠️👻

To everyone who entered the hatchery, explored, laughed, and helped bring this strange little world to life: THANK YOU. 💙

Our next steps are on our minds, and there are still many hatchery secrets waiting to emerge. Stay tuned.

For now, the ghosts are resting. Enjoy your spooky season.

Until the next haunting…

ONWARD & UPWARD. 👻🐟

@georgetownsteamplant located in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle, was constructed in 1906 for the Seattle Electric Company to provide power for Seattle, notably for streetcars. The plant was designed to run on either coal or oil, but shortly after it was built, hydropowerbecame the primary source of energy for the region. The plant operated until 1977 when it was completely decommissioned.

Since its decommissioning, building owner Seattle City Light (SCL) has worked to preserve, repair and restore the building. Under SCL’s management, the Georgetown Steam Plant has been recognized as a National Historic Landmark (1984), Seattle Landmark, HistoricMechanical Engineering Landmark (1980) and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Today, the Georgetown Steam Plant goal is to create an immersive history experience, iconic event space, and center for SHTEAM (Science, History, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) education programming within the space.

I had the privilege of first crossing paths with @xochitlclare, who had a table set up at one of @georgetownsteamplant open houses where you can explore the steam plant on your own or as part of a tour. @xochitlclare table featured @scistoriesproject where she worked with you to create Ocean Improv Poetry. This is how I learned about her play, Ghosts of the Hatchery (@ghostsofthehatchery), was by her social media and knew it would be an amazing show.

✨ This Baddie on Sabbatie's experience went like this ✨

First time I heard about Ghosts of the Hatchery was the beginning of September.

It was only running for two weekends and when I went to sign-up all slots were full! So I joined the waitlist on October 1st for the second weekend's showing on Friday and Sunday.

October 3rd: Got a text I made it off both waitlists. Decided to go with Sunday's matinee show at 2pm. Received an email with our tickets inside.

October 5th: Received a "Quick Note" email.

October 11th: Arrived at 1:45pm to check-in, explore the other tables before seating opened for the show.

Free parking is available when you visit. Their website has a tab for all upcoming events.

🐟👻 WE’RE IN THE DAILY. “Ghosts of the Hatchery — a UW-inspired, fisheries-themed Christmas Carol — brings salmon, scientists, ghosts, and institutional drama together inside the Georgetown Steam Plant.”

Huge thank you to Anouk-Belle Janess (@la.belle.anouk ) and @thedailyuw for telling the story behind the show and capturing the strange little world we’ve been building.

🐟✨ WE OPENED. I’m a marine biologist and performing artist who wrote a play — and somehow, this weekend, I got to watch it come alive onstage.

Ghosts of the Hatchery (@ghostsofthehatchery )is my original play, created through my Artist-in-Residence work at the Georgetown Steam Plant, produced by yours truly, directed by Ren Langer. It brings together fisheries science, environmental storytelling, theater, ghosts, and a whole lot of salmon.

Getting to see this story — and this Black girl fisheries science magic — onstage has been surreal.💅🏾✨🐟

We’re also officially sold out for all shows, with the waitlist growing.

I’m so grateful to everyone who has helped me bring this weird, wonderful thing to life, and to everyone who has shown up to experience it.

Still processing. Still beaming at this work coming to life.

👻 MEET THE GHOSTS OF THE FUTURE. Get ready for an oracle haunting from the future — where we lose versus the future where we win.

SASHA
The future where we lose.
Desert sci-fi rags. Dust & anarchy.

AMANDA
The future where we win.
90s-baby valley-girl optimism. “It’s all good, all right?”

Swipe for the character energy.

👻 MEET THE GHOSTS OF THE PRESENT.

RON has watched the hatchery rise and fall.
Carrying the weight of academia, and a divorced-dad rock CD in his Prius.

SAM — earnest. And loyal. Where would we be without Sam?

The reliably opinionated voices of the hatchery. Because apparently one haunted scientist wasn’t enough.

Swipe for the character energy.

👻 MEET THE GHOST OF THE PAST. Be careful while looking for your samples in the fridge. You just might find a ghost from the past.

S.T. Donaldson. Sgt. Don.
A scientist of high rank — and he knows it. He carries all the post–World War II bravado on his shoulders, and is always ready to advance in the name of science.

“Onward and upward”!

Swipe for the character energy.

Some places already have a story.

“Ghosts of the Hatchery” is coming to the Georgetown Steam Plant — a former industrial power plant with a history of its own.

Over the years, this place has been filled with art, music, science, community, and people. This fall, we’re adding a haunted hatchery to the mix.

Concrete, machinery, water, industry—And a whole lot of salmon.

October 2–4 & 9–11, 2026.

We are excited to introduce the cast of “Ghosts of the Hatchery”!👻🐟

A haunted hatchery needs people brave enough to walk inside.

We’re thrilled to introduce the actors bringing this strange little world to life—and we can’t wait for you to meet them.
