Late night walks are my favorites in my neighborhood because the streets are virtually empty.

Play music, move hard, sweat, and catch the light.

Reading List 2: The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, and The Book of Enoch Translation.

The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, by N. K. Jemisin, which I checked out from the Austin Public Library.

As Yeine Darr, “barbarian” heir to the ancient Arameri throne, searches for her mother’s murderer, succession struggles with her cousins act as smokescreens for the machinations of the royal family’s captive gods. Following clues dropped by apparent allies and sometimes by outright enemies, Yeine learns the truth of this vivid, troubling world.

In The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, her debut novel, multiple award-winner @njemisin N.K. Jemisin introduces readers to the rich rivalries and treacherous divine pantheon of the Inheritance Trilogy. Succeeding volumes of the Inheritance Trilogy build on her discoveries and bring us more mortal failings, dazzling magic, and the powerful love and hate called forth by the interplay of human beings with the divine.

The Book of Enoch, Translated by R. H. Charles. A collection of three key “lost” books of the bible, offering insight into the origins of early Christianity.

In the early days of the Christian faith there were many writings, only some of which became part of the canonical Bible. But what of the other books, known as apocryphal texts...which of those are worth reading? One of the most influential and well-known of these apocryphal texts is The Books of Enoch, a collection of three ancient Hebrew texts that contain teachings about angels, demons, the great flood, as well as mystical prophecies. by @scott_k_smith

Be rid of it, bring clarity.

“ The principle that good and evil are not separate and distinct, but are inherent in all phenomena. ‘Good’ in Buddhism means that which benefits oneself and others, while ‘evil’ means that which harms oneself and others. Good and evil are not too mutually exclusive entities, but are two different functions of life.” Nichten Buddhism Library

Reading list 1: Between the Horns, and away of the Blade.

Book descriptions are directly from the Author website, when I can get them.

Between the Horns, A Book of Liminal Witchcraft, by @theantleredcrown Elwynn Green of The Antlered Crown.

“The real craft of the witch. Not pretty. Not polite. From deconstructing the pillars of magic to imparting wisdom on the use of tools and elements, Between the Horns breaks down witchcraft practices and makes them more accessible, while inviting you to discover your own magical path.

Modern witches have been led astray from the common sense so desperately needed in the craft. Through books, music, and screens, the media has painted a quaint picture of folklore: pointy-eared simpletons singing and making merry or pint-sized winged fairies dressed in scraps. The witch hasn’t escaped this rebranding. Hollywood has clung to the trope of the evil, demonic hag—out to cause disruption and wreak havoc on unsuspecting townsfolk.”

The Way of the Blade, A Magickal Retreat in Scotland, by @christopherpenczak Christopher Penczak & The Temple of Witchcraft Community.

To the Sovereign Hill. In the autumn of 2023, members of the Temple of Witchcraft journeyed to Scotland on a sacred pilgrimage as a third act of magick following gatherings in England and Wales. Starting in Edinburgh, they visited Rosslyn Chapel, Doon Hill, Kilmartin Glen, the Isle of Skye, Clava Cairns, and Arthur’s Seat.
Following the Scottish mysteries of King Arthur, sacred sovereigns, and the way of the warrior, you can join them through this collection of teachings, meditations, and remembrances. Explore the mysteries of the sword, of air, and truth with rituals of Michaelmas, Chapel Perilous, and Healing the Wound of the World. In difficult times Witchdom needs knights to uphold the honor found in the Way of the Blade. Featuring the work of Temple co-founder Christopher Penczak and many community members, all royalties go to support the work of the Temple.

I went to the @sspowwow this weekend on Saturday. I laughed, I cried, I enjoyed fry bread, dancing, amazing regalia, the Grand Entry and could not walk away without supporting various vendors, artisans and makers.

This amazingly crafted piece by @nativedesigns_byquezada caught my eye and inevitably left around my neck. Wild Horse (Magnesite), Turquoise, Red Shell, Coral, and Lapis are so vibrant and colorful, yet soft and soothing. I love that it's a Diné maker, and completely one of a kind.

Powwow will be in Austin, November 21 at the Native American Cultural Center.

"If you have a golf-ball-sized consciousness, when you read a book, you'll have a golf-ball-sized understanding; when you look out, a golf-ball-sized awareness; and when you wake up in the morning, a golf-ball-sized wakefulness.

But if you could expand that consciousness, make it grow, then when you read that book, you'll have more understanding; when you look out, more awareness; and when you wake up, more wakefulness."

— David Lynch

***********About the Sculpture************
"Victory Emerging from Marble."
@metmuseum

Significance to the quote, "Expanded views challenged the Union, demolishing the evils of the confederacy, taking steps towards liberation."

History:
Somewhere around 1897, a Boston businessman named James C. Melvin commissioned French to create a monument dedicated to his three brothers who died fighting for the Union during the American Civil War. The original marble monument was placed in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord, Massachusetts. Pleased with the final piece, Melvin later funded this replica for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which was carved between 1912 and 1915 by the renowned Piccirilli Brothers marble studio.
