“You are Asian enough and you are American enough.”

As we close out our APIDA Voices series, we’re honored to share the perspective of Alena Nagtalon, a junior at Morse High School, who reflects on the power of embracing every part of who you are.

Thank you to all of the students, educators, and staff who shared their voices throughout this series. Their stories remind us that representation matters, belonging matters, and every story has the power to help someone else feel seen.

“We all have a lot of differences, but also a great amount of similarities.”

As part of our APIDA Voices series, we’re honored to share the perspective of Nikhil Plettner Booker of San Diego High, who reflects on the importance of building connections across communities.

Growing up with a multicultural background, Nikhil describes the journey of understanding his own heritage and finding a sense of belonging within the APIDA community. He reminds us that while our experiences may differ, learning one another’s stories can help us recognize our shared humanity.

“To embrace the strength and resilience and history of my ancestors gives me powerful reasons to exist in spaces where I may not feel 100% welcome.”

As part of our APIDA Voices series, we’re honored to share the perspective of Danny Blas, HSS & Ethnic Studies Teacher. Reflecting on ancestry, storytelling, and identity, Danny reminds us that understanding where we come from can be a powerful source of belonging, resilience, and purpose.
