What do you listen to when you feel most yourself?

For me, these are the albums I gravitate toward when I need to clear my headspace or create space for creativity… my defaults consist of a combination of honest songwriting of the 60s and 70s, classic 80s NY hip-hop and some lo-fi beats…from early 2000s..

I’ve always gravitated toward music that values a bit of raw, emotional honesty songs that reminds me of a particular moment or an incident that stayed with me…over something that’s been polished to death…

Over at @records.athome , I’ve realized the most important question to ask is whether you are collecting for yourself or for others... because in the low light of the listening room, the right records make you feel at home… taken in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by @sean.scp

People often ask me where does my ideas come from. …and honestly... it’s never a clean answer.

But heres what i think...The quality of your creative thinking is a direct reflection of the quality of your life outside the work, so feed it well..😌 taken in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by @sean.scp

There’s nostalgic bias here…but I’ll stand by the consensus: this is his best. Continuum is easily in my top ten albums. After listening several times it has continued to grow on me with each listen.. Something about this one just hits differently..the recording quality, the blues focus, the maturity that separates him from the kid on ‘Room For Squares’. It also kills the idea that his music is generic radio pop…

And it’s precisely the voice, soft and sinuous, that gently caresses the listener’s ears supported by the round and warm arrangements of musicians …And in the end, John Mayer is exactly this, a musician aware of his own qualities.. and goddamn he does it so well!!!

Continuum to me is a classic of our time…a sparkling and memorable production that deserves all the gushing and media attention that it has been receiving and will continue to get many years from now….

ps: recorded the audio for this one, so whoever’s watching gets the full experience of the LP. by @sean.scp

When I was a kid my favorite genre of music was Hip Hop simply because I was heavily influenced by the skateboarding and sneaker culture from where I grew up … and I had little interest in Jazz though in hindsight it was everywhere within proximity.. part of jazz was actually deeply influenced by hip hop through rhythmic styles, spoken word poetry..

@guru.jazzmatazz ‘s Jazzmatazz album is near and dear to my heart for two reasons: it helped make Jazz music “cool” to me, and expanded my palate into fusion. taken in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by @sean.scp
