Indie Bookstore Day haul, rainy day storefronts, puri-less aam ras, and mango posset. Not pictured: delightful candle from Hopeless Romantics, lovely @bipocpub folks who braved the weather all Saturday, and all the lovely friends we bumped into along the way. 💛🥭✨📚

Special shoutout to @wordwomon who capped off a perfect day with a perfect biryani (!) dinner and to my parents for a crate (!) of mangoes that I consumed in, like, 9 days. 😅 by @seeyashread

I know I should say I’m looking forward to reading a bunch this long weekend, but it’s been cozy gaming season since November. I owe these three games my sanity. WYTCHWOOD and HELLO KITTY ISLAND ADVENTURE are picking up where SNUFKIN left off. 🧙🏽‍♀️

An added joy to my gaming routine is this gorgeous journal from @rosascreative which holds my game cards as well as my ratings/thoughts on the games I finish. Inspired by @/gaminginyellow’s journal, but Dulce really adapted it to suit my needs. Again, she is the absolute coolest. Please go and support her craft. 📚 by @seeyashread

This year, I moved out of my Archer & Olive (which I began using in 2019!) and into a Moleskine to track both my reading and my watching. Unlike previous years, I did not make any trackers—at this point, it’s habit to read diversely, and I’m already hyperaware of who I’m reaching for and what the gaps are in my reading. Maybe next year I’ll go back to tracking which medium I read the most, or the genre, etc.

It’s been a slow start to the year, especially where my non-work reading is concerned. It’s mostly been Moomin. 🥺 by @seeyashread

Shoutout to the wonderful @gareeree and her exciting new shop for bookish stationery lovers, @openbookclub.ca :) This is only a selection of what I ordered—the rest are presents—but LOOK HOW PRETTY! ✨ Thank you, Gareema, for banishing my January blahs and for the sly freebies. Also, that makes two of my friends who have opened beautiful stationery stores. If you’re looking for a place to use your stickers, Open Book Club also sells the most gorgeous gilded notebooks. If you already have a notebook, well, it needs a cover—go forth to my other friend’s shop, @rosascreative 📚☺️ by @seeyashread

Snapshots from my fly by—uh, rail by?—trip to Montreal. For a brief visit, I think I ate (and shopped) really, really well. 😅 Thanks for having me at the Read Quebec Book Fair, @aelaq_ Shoutout to my fellow panelists, @haikuboxer and @c_crae as well as our moderator @radiasilencia for making this such a warm, wonderful experience. ✨ by @seeyashread

Three of my favourite books this year. How lucky I am to hear their authors discuss craft, love, grief, courage, and everything in between. ✨ by @seeyashread

Now at 30 books read, which is already more than I expected out of this year tbh. Here are some standout recent reads, as well as a bonus photo of the FOLD event with R. F. Kuang, Susan Palumbo, and Amanda Leduc. Loved this panel. A belated congratulations on ten years, @the_fold ✨

Far and away the best book I’ve read all year is Arundhati Roy’s MOTHER MARY COMES TO ME. I don’t think you need to know Arundhati’s work to read this one, but once you finish this book I promise you’ll want to read everything she’s ever written. Arundhati’s complicated relationship with her mother is both the framework and the heart of this poignant memoir, but it is also a careful dissection of her own life, her relationships, her writing, and her activism—the latter two of which she does not care to differentiate between. You want to read about love? Read this. You want to read about the rise of right-wing Hindu fascism in India? Read this. This is honestly the only book I care about these days. ❤️‍🩹 It comes out September 2nd—be sure to pick up a copy.

Not pictured: SUNRISE ON THE REAPING which I didn’t expect would shake me, but it really, really did. Suzanne Collins remains a hype-worthy author in my books. 🐍 by @seeyashread

I’ve read 18 books so far. Some I enjoyed, some were mediocre, one I DNF’d, and one I loathed so much I’ve ranted to multiple friends in group chats and one unlucky soul at Queen Books I don’t even know that well. Happy to report that these books, pictured above, are standout reads. Also, without an ounce of irony, my absolute favourite read of the year thus far is FROG AND TOAD TOGETHER by Arnold Lobel. Highly recommend.🌷 by @seeyashread
