✨ Book News! ✨

I’m so thrilled to announce my YA debut, SUGAR MAPLE HIGH!

As a reader, I cut my teeth on YA romances and it’s a delight to be able to work with Yash and such a wonderful team to bring this gorgeous story of a small Canadian hockey town, a newcomer and a resident hater to life.

For those of you who don’t know, I spent my early years in such a town, albeit on the west coast, and bringing this part of my identity to the page is such a dream. I can’t wait to go back to cottage country with these new loves!

Thank you to Yash, @jemiscoe, @starlingliterary and @simonschusterca for making all of this possible. 🏒 😘 ⛸️

Somehow, it’s already been a month since MLF 2025! Take a look at some of the highlights from this year’s incredible festival. From networking, to the interactive poetry workshop, to Uzma Jalaluddin’s keynote speech, the MLF 2025 was one for the books.

What’s your favourite memory from this year’s festival?

🧿🕯️👻🍋🤘Something's up! Coming this March-ish!

I'm beyond thrilled to finally announce my middle grade debut, SOMETHING'S UP WITH ARLO. It's hard to put into words just what this project means to me. On the surface, it's a ghosty mystery with a heavy splash of Italian folklore magic, but beneath that it's about loneliness, and cultural scars, and trying to find out who you are on your own terms. If you grew up feeling "weird" or unheard, then this one's for you.

A big part of this story is also about being brave enough to ask difficult questions. Growing up, I never heard about my Italian family's history: about the trauma of fascism and the occupation, the poverty that followed, the labour struggles and xenophobia that persisted well into my dad's generation. In writing SOMETHING'S UP WITH ARLO, I spent a lot of time sitting with these histories and naming the ways that they still affect me, enough to see how much our story has in common with today's immigrants, refugees, and victims of violence and war. It's painful to know the past, but it's made me realize how similar we all are.

In this same spirit, I'd love if you could check out the link in my bio to help an amazing family evacuate from G*za. They've already hit their goal to get their two youngest out, so let's make sure they can all stay together. I'm still giving free LOCKJAW bookmarks to folks who donate, and I hope to have some ARLO merch soon too.

Thank you for sticking around. More books to come! (There's a hint in this announcement, actually...)

Pre-order it today 💜

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Ajay Anthonipillai has a million-dollar problem.

Ajay has lived his life dutifully following the rules set by his Tamil parents.
Rule #3: Straight As only
Rule #5: There is no such thing as a no-homework day.
Rule #10: Never watch scary movies.

However, moving to a new school gives Ajay a new rule to follow: Get on seventh-grade all-star Jacob Underson’s good side.

When Jacob asks him to steal a Mercury bar from Scary Al’s convenience store, Ajay feels this is his chance to finally “get cool” and stop eating alone. But Jacob rejects the stolen chocolate bar, leaving Ajay to unwrap it and discover that it contains Mercury’s 25th Anniversary Grand Prize…one million dollars.

Faced with an extreme dilemma, Ajay will have to bear the weight of his actions and battle his morality in deciding whether to claim the one prize that may change his family’s life forever.
