Man. RIP Sam Kieth. A legend instrumental in constructing the dreams of a fractious and shattered young man... Sandman vol. 2 #1-5... Maxx and his own aboriginal dreaming. Batman: Secrets. Batman: MAXX 💖... SCRATCH... I was busy single parenting when Zero Girl hit but I will be making up for that loss, shortly, I promise. Sam's style was so singular, you could spot his work at 500 yards: Tactile. Thrumming. Saturated and dense, as if pulled directly from his inner cave wall, fingers painted in the clay, adobe under the nails; wrists, forearms, and elbows coated ochre and carmine. Mr Kieth, I raided the archives at Mile High Comics in your honor, tonight. Had to do it via webworks, being on the road... But it'll be nice to come home to an expansion of your worlds within the comic library I've been seeking to rebuild. Attached is a terrible cell phone image of one of the two signed comics I have from within your realm: Marvel Comics Presents #89 from November 1991. A book hardly worth mentioning when considered among your wild and howling pantheon... But in November 1991 I was turning 15 and well in the midst, simultaneously held aloft and buried by the many furies of that age. So, while minor in your halls, it has a place of honor in mine. I'll have to find Jae Lee and have him sign the second cover on the backside, since the two of you shared story space within the pages. I know he'd appreciate the binary play, and the closed loop achieved as his ink dried. We don't all get to make a mark such as yours but I'll be happy to pay it forward to the best of my ability. A little positive chaos in the blend is a mighty fine legacy. Those are the sort of ripples that have lasting effect. Thank you, Sam. Those of you planning on being out and about for very specific reasons on 6/14 need to carry yourselves carefully, and you need to make absolutely certain that de-escalation and/or immediate exit are your strategies the second tensions even appear to rise. This administration wants a turning point. They want someone to do something untoward enough for the first steps to martial law to be seen as even remotely acceptable. Do not give them that chance. Do not give them even the most remote of reasons. There is no question Proud Boys, Patriot Front, Stormfront, the Three Percenters, the ALF, will all be deputies and co-conspirators when ICE and DHS decide to go rogue. Mask up. Video up. Audio up. Cloud transmission live. Capture what you can, methodically, as paced as the moment allows. Then split. As much as movements require millions marching, this group is different than even those racist boyos from the 1950s and 1960s. This group means to do harm to the very underpinnings of the democratic house upon which this Republic stands. And if a sudden, bombastic distraction should arise overseas... People will be forced to pay less attention to the nameless ghosts who get disappeared when a rally gets labeled insurrection, when a protest gets defined as rebellion. Stay cool. Keep your head on a swivel. Speak your piece, and hold that message high. Don't join in the melee when the melee inevitably begins. It won't be you or your peers that begin the game. The initiators, though, will seek to finish it; blame pointed in all directions. Loyalty to the man the cudgel wielded. Be mindful, be wary, be quick of foot and wit. We are at history's precipice. The leaders are remembered because they were the faces within which the movement coalesced, the shores upon which the believers fell tide... But one cannot lead without the tread of the township mob behind them. Those movements were made real and remembered because thousands forgotten to all but family and faith were the waters from which change emerged. Do not go to be remembered. There are a lot of privacy issues involved with the backstory but I'll grossly oversimplify and say that I knew them both, that they were both very close to someone in my family, and that my people and I were very close to the background, lead up, event and aftermath of 4/20/99. The piss poor, classist and demographically biased school administration aside (an administration who'd had several chances to intervene at multiple levels before everything went sideways and who'd frankly had several issues dating back to when I graduated in 1995 and more), the Columbine tragedy, and many others like it, can be traced back to a simple failure of the greater capitalist system and its decimation of the familial household. Many of the dominoes dropped before all this took place could have been averted if the social contract and its familial constructs were better seen to by both the elite and the community at large. Parents cannot be present, model, nurture when they are paycheck to pay check. Teachers cannot properly command a classroom when they are also asked to fill those gaps. Narcissism and a bullying predator class both grow out of the hollows. I will never condone what they did... But Eric and Dylan's actions are an indictment of a multitude of choices made at the national and regional level over decades of a continuous selling out of the little guy. Their names should be on the Columbine memorial as an object lesson. We should never have lost their 13 victims, and those two boys should never have been put in the position where the choices they made would ever have even crossed their collective minds. To me their deaths, and the deaths they caused, are symbols of a greater cancer within the American paradigm. They should be on the wall as a reminder that we still need to do and be better as a people, as a society. That is all. In a relative nutshell. #columbine #bebetter #wheredowegofromhere by @setaside2

He's coming for it. Nothing needles an oligarch quite like a few trillion dollars they can't get their hands on. Let's be clear about a few things: 1.) Elon's claims of fraud have been debunked by multiple sources, left, right, center. This is one of the few areas of the political venn diagram everyone with more than three functional brain cells occupies. Most of his claims stem from his technogremlins & their lack of ability to read lines of code. The rest are vastly fabricated. 2.Social Security is self funding. Period. It's not going bankrupt. And the kind of "federal spending" that Elon is railing against does not exist in either the SSA's acquisition or disbursement of funds. The SSA has been audited quarterly since the 1970s. All combined fraud found has never been higher than 1.75% which, in the scope of its operation, is essentially negligible, especially considering the unbelievable amount of good it does for nearly a full THIRD of our population including, on average, 20+ million people pulled out of poverty every year. 3.) The trust fund that WE THE CITIZENS PAY INTO (not the federal government) has indeed been turned to annually to assist in the disbursement of benefits. This is of course why we pay into it in the first place but the jackasses absolutely drooling over the mere thought of privatizing the pool want you to think it's being bled dry. It is not. 4.) HOWEVER. IF (if) you are so overwhelmingly concerned about the health of the Social Security fund that you're willing to simply hand it over to the cryptobros to bankrupt in less than a fiscal year, the answer to the question of long term solvency is simple: raise the salary cap. The current salary cap for the 6.2%percentage payment is $176,000. A quick calculation shows that, if you make $100,000, you will pay $6200 into Social Security on an annual basis. Guess what? This cap also means a $1,000,000 salary ALSO ONLY PAYS $6200 into Social Security. An unbelievably egregious case of classist malpractice. Raise the salary cap, let rich pay the same percentage as the rest of us, Et voilà: a solvent, long-term Social Security. #socialsecurity #21stcenturycoup by @setaside2

I've had the pleasure of meeting @toriamos twice in my life (and I guess in hers). I never had the guts (or the proper paraphernalia) to ask for an autograph. Fast forward many moons & Tori's published a book for kids (or, perhaps, our youthy zephyrs inside), called "Tori and the Muses," with glorious artwork by @demelsahaughton. I wasn't able to be there to ask, in person... But it's beautiful all the same. Lovely visons, ladies. I do adore the bugs. Hope Demelsa signs it, too, one day ❤️‍🔥 Thanks @murderbooks. I travel everywhere with a 365nm UV-A flashlight. I use it for finding the interesting among the banal: minerals, here... uranium glass there... Lichens or moss that fluoresce. It's a small thing but satisfying: humans see such a narrow amount of the grand color scheme, a glimpse beyond the purple can fascinate. Normally, this is where beauty and enchantment follow. But I stay in a lot of hotel rooms. First let me just state that, generally speaking, hotel rooms are much MUCH cleaner in our post-quarantine world. Whatever stance you might have on vaccines and masks I believe we can all stand together when it comes to making sure no one has tongued a bowl or two on their way out the door, only to be neglected by the housekeeper dealing with the unanticipated dissolution of either their marriage or their supply of bath towels. I assure you: in hospitality, the supply of towels is a hotly contested issue. The great linen wars long unnoticed by vast swaths of history have been brutal, uncompromising things. There's a joke that runs rampant within the variant echelons of the home improvement industry and it is this: all anyone wants is a nice backsplash. This is a phrase that can have a plethora of meanings. Some perhaps more literal than others. The nice thing about discovering an *actual* backsplash while being simultaneously neurodivergent is that the visual cues trigger far better, and much more acceptable, visual processes and the mind (perhaps in self defense, we'll never know) wanders far afield with question of "What happens, now?" Tonight the psychedelic badger currently pulling the levers in my brain saw the splash and thought "Would you look at that. Nebulae. In my hotel room. Well, now that IS service, I daresay." And immediately set about wondering how one might capture the cosmos inherent to the ice bucket, coffee maker, and half a dozen 12oz Libbey DuraTuff Elán glasses; one of which is clearly from a different batch because its stabilizers fluoresce like an LED. The idea, of course, is to attempt a showcase of the lovely within the decidedly not so. I give you: the Home2 gas cloud and Freeze Dried novae taken in South Jordan, Utah by @setaside2
