@bozemancamera and @tamronamericas ventured into the deep wilds of Montana for a starlight workshop in Bannack State Park, once the capital city of the great Montana Territory. I never work starlight without our #F045 SP 45mm f/1.4. While discontinued, the F045 remains arguably the finest autofocus 35mm f/1.4 prime ever made, including the modern mirrorless mods. Some lenses are simply worth adapting.

Fun fact: the Bannack lodge is still in use by the modern freemasons as an historic space. Simply brilliant.

Folks we are unbelievably privileged and thrilled to be heading back to @bozemancamera for our annual starry skies and light painting workshop at @bannackstatepark! Once the Montana Territorial capital, Bannack has been properly preserved as a state park for the past 50 years. We are very lucky to be fully permitted to enter the park and shoot from dusk to milky way. @tamronamericas (your truly) will be on hand to loan lenses and even some LED lights as we work with our attendees to get the most out of their light painting and starry skies in one of the most amazing venues possible. Class space is limited and registration is required so please contact Bozeman Camera at 408-586-8300 for more information!

Few things represent time like wheeling stars and a geothermal cycle that has long held its own level of fascination for the variants of hominid crossing the caldera through the ages. Capturing the full eruption of Old Faithful in a single frame under the stars has been in the back of my mind since I started running film labs in the 90s. I fell in love with photography because of its chronology, the way we can capture and study time, moments literally upon moments... Such as 90 seconds of Old Faithful expressing herself in Mother Nature's language, reminding those watching of the significance found within our insignificance. Awe is often silent because it listens.

These are phone edits, not finals but... Had to share.

With a little luck and a lot of caffeine, I’ll be spending the summer working on a photo essay with the Arizona Department of Public Safety. 📸☕️

The plan is to ride at least once a week with AZDPS across Metro East, Metro Central, and Metro West, including several teams and task forces. First and foremost, a sincere thank you to the men and women of DPS, from patrol to upper command, for allowing me the opportunity to help show the hard work you do.

This kind of storytelling matters. It carries responsibility, respect, and yes, a degree of risk for everyone involved. My goal is simple: tell the story honestly and honor the people doing the work.

Big shout-out as well to my good friend Marc Morris, my Tamron rep, who always goes above and beyond for me, Foto Forum, and our customers. Marc is a fantastic human and an accomplished photographer in his own right.

My tool of choice for this project is the Tamron 35-150mm F/2-2.8 — a true workhorse for photo and video, with the range and speed to handle almost anything I run into. Tamron continues to make my job easier with smart, versatile lens designs.

Alright, my friends, let’s talk about the Tamron 25-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III VXD G2 once again, but this time, we’re talking about why this lens makes so much sense when your “studio” is a trail, a sidewalk, a mountain pass, or whatever questionable decision you walked into with a camera. 😅📸

The big deal here is weather resistance. This lens features moisture-resistant construction with leak-resistant seals throughout the lens barrel, plus a fluorine coating on the front element to help repel water, oil, fingerprints, and general outdoor nonsense.
