5cm From the Front Element — Tamron 12–20mm F2.8 Close Focus

This is where 12mm gets ridiculous.

The Tamron 12–20mm F2.8 focuses down to 18 cm at 12mm — which puts the front element roughly FIVE centimeters from your subject.

Five. 😅

Get that close with an ultra-wide and a tiny flower can completely own the foreground… while you still have an entire mountain range behind it.

After a few weeks shooting this beast in the mountains, under the stars and back home pixel-peeping the results, yeah… this one is definitely staying in my backpack!

Behind the scenes of our late night photoshoot at Little Island in NYC during fashion week 😮‍💨

WHEN THE PLANS MAKE IT OUT OF THE CHAT. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

We actually did it. The whole crew was running on E but the creative juices were flowing!

We have all worked together season after season and never managed to actually do a shoot outside of the runway and backstage chaos.

Packed with a full lighting setup by @westcottlighting and my two favorite lenses by @tamronamericas we created some late night magic.

I used the Westcott FJ250 with the 24” Joel Grimes Beauty Dish with a grid to bring in the drama, added a hand-held FJ100 with a gel and the pro grip as a kicker.

I used my favorite Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 with a star filter and the kicker on a golden sequin dress to bring out some beautiful lens flares and add a golden tone to the dress. I then switched to the Tamron 20mm for the 10ft flying gown for the dramatic wide angle- using the kicker as an additional light on the long satin fabric.

The Tamron 12–20mm F2.8 reminded me why I love shooting ultra-wide.

12mm isn’t really about fitting more into the frame. It’s about getting closer, finding a strong foreground and building photographs that simply wouldn’t exist at more conventional focal lengths.

Give it nothing to work with and you get an enormous amount of nothing. 😅

Give it the right foreground, though… and this lens is seriously special.

Part two of our one-two punch, my friends: the Sony A7 V + Tamron 50-400mm F/4.5-6.3 VC VXD. 📸🔥

The A7 V is built for speed with its new 33MP partially stacked full-frame sensor, up to 30 fps blackout-free shooting, and Sony’s latest AI-powered autofocus. Translation: if it moves, this camera has a very good chance of finding it before you do. 😂

Then you bolt on the Tamron 50-400, and suddenly you’ve got everything from a normal 50mm view to serious 400mm reach in one lens. Add VXD autofocus, VC stabilization, moisture-resistant construction, and a fluorine-coated front element, and this becomes one seriously capable outdoor setup.

Wildlife, sports, travel, events, details across the street you’re too lazy to walk toward — this combo is ready. 😎

The A7R VI + 35-150 handles the high-resolution side of the equation. The A7 V + 50-400 brings the speed and reach. That’s one heck of a one-two punch.
