After 11 years in practice, it's always important to stay humble.

The humble don't "know-it-all" - they still strive to learn it all.

My greatest gift has been the amazing clients, and doctor referrals that I have the privilege of engaging with every day.

One thing I can say - it's a bit of a brag, so brace yourself ...
When you enter the healthspace with the word "holistic 'ahead of your title, it makes you proud but also self conscious. You come to realize that not everyone holds value for what you do and your approach.

I can now say with complete confidence that I am comfortable and not intimidated to be in conversation with any other healthcare provider about many things, but specifically about IBS and digestive dysfunction. Instead so many that I respect are making it a practice of filtering these patients through me to see if the Shift Your Gut Therapy Methodology can help their patients. We are on the brink of an exciting time in Canada...where our conventional medical model will begin to incorporate some more holistic approaches and working side by side, holistic practitioners will need to reach for the most compelling evidence based solutions to help their clients best, Each "side" is learning their limitations, and by recognizing that, are aiming to be limitless - all in an effort to provide education and health improvements for their community of patients and clients

🎧 Listen to that voice… it’s trying to tell you something.

I was so lucky to stay home with my girls when they were little. I had walked away from a hectic, fast-paced, and honestly skyrocketing marketing career to do it… and I never looked back.

But when all three were in school full-time, I craved something that would light me up, challenge me, give me a new kind of accomplishment. So I followed the spark. I joined the most amazing indoor cycling studio… and at 48 years old, I became a SPIN INSTRUCTOR. 🚴‍♀️
I taught for 5 years and loved every sweaty, empowering second.

During that time, I also began to explore another long time interest.
Nutrition.
With Crohn’s Disease and cancer in my history, wellness had always mattered to me—and I had a feeling prevention lived in the choices we make every day.

So I said yes. I went back to school and earned a certificate in holistic nutrition.

Without knowing where it would lead.

And I DID IT AFRAID.

That “yes” changed my entire life. Now I get to wake up and do work that’s meaningful, impactful, and aligned with who I am. And I’m grateful every single day.

I know that you feel that you have tried ALL the things. You may have explored elimination diets (dairy free, gluten free, low fodmap etc) only to find that you ended up more confused than when you started.

You have been tested up the wazoo. Inflammatory Bowel Disease has been ruled out, and they crossed colon cancer off the list as well. What a relief! All good news, and all necessary.

You are hoping for some insight from your specialist. They hand you a piece of paper and say, “you probably have Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), try this diet (low fodmap) – it is helpful for people with IBS”. The End. To be fair, sometimes it comes with a more detailed description, but it nearly NEVER comes with guidance and oversight. The purpose of any elimination diet is diagnostic. To provide us with information. It requires understanding, guidance and oversight to be useful.

The food noise quiets. The weight starts coming off. You finally feel some relief.

But there’s a question that can get overlooked:

“Am I giving my body what it needs while all this is happening?”

In my work, I’ve seen how a smaller appetite can leave people unsure about everyday meals.

Nothing sounds appealing, so lunch gets skipped. Protein becomes an afterthought. Fullness or constipation makes eating uncomfortable.

And because the scale is moving, those concerns can feel less urgent.

So common, but really it really affects us in so many ways beyond how we look in our clothing.

Yes, bloating does make us feel self-conscious in our clothes, especially when we feel we look "pregnant" or noticeably larger.

Bloating can make us feel:

Physical Discomfort:
Overly full, heavy, or as if our abdomen is stretched or distended. This can lead to pain, cramping, and difficulty moving comfortably.

Uncertain:
Many find bloating frustrating because it can feel random, making it hard to anticipate or avoid. This lack of control adds to their stress.

Stressed:
Severe bloating can interfere with activities, social plans, and even work, as the discomfort can be distracting and energy-draining.

Trial-and-Error Exhaustion:
Managing bloating often involves experimenting with diets, supplements, or treatments, which can be overwhelming and time-consuming.

Fearful:
Chronic bloating can make people worry that it’s a symptom of something more serious.

Understanding when and where you bloat holds the key to beating it for good.

Morning bloat? It might hint at overall imbalances in the gut microbiome.

Progressive bloat through the day? Perhaps some digestive insufficiency.

Upper belly pressure? Lower belly distension? Each tells a unique story about your gut.

Being on a GLP-1 can make food feel less appealing—but your body still needs nourishment. 💛

A quieter appetite can feel like a relief—until you realize how little you’ve eaten.

Here’s a simple starting point for those “nothing sounds good” days:

🍳 Choose your protein first.
Eggs, Greek yogurt, chicken, fish, tofu or cottage cheese. Pick what feels manageable, then build around it with some carbohydrate, produce and fat.

🥣 Think smaller meals, more opportunities.
Try yogurt with berries, an egg with toast, or a small bowl of chicken soup. You don’t have to manage a large plate, but a few bites aren’t a whole day’s nourishment.

⏰ Give eating a little structure.
If hunger isn’t reminding you, a gentle reminder on your phone might help you pause for a meal or snack.

Protein helps support muscle alongside strength training. Enough overall food matters for your energy and health, too.

If you’re consistently unable to eat enough or digestive symptoms are getting in the way, speak with your prescriber.

If you have IBS, “eat more plants” can feel like pretty confusing advice.

Especially if you’ve also been told to avoid a long list of foods on low FODMAP.

But 30 plants a week does NOT mean 30 vegetables.

Fruit, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, herbs and spices can all contribute to your weekly variety — and those small additions really do add up.

The goal isn’t to force your gut to tolerate everything overnight.

It’s to gradually build more variety, in a way that works for you.

And if you’re following low FODMAP, remember: restriction is not meant to be the end point. Reintroduction and expanding your diet as tolerated are important parts of the process.

Start where you are.

Then ask yourself:

What’s ONE more plant, herb or spice I could add this week? 🌱

#GLP-1 Support

Let’s talk about the question that keeps coming up with GLP-1s:

“Why does the weight often come back when someone stops?”

Understanding why can take some of the fear—and self-blame—out of that conversation.

GLP-1 medications help reduce hunger and increase fullness. When treatment stops, that support wears off, and appetite can return.

Meanwhile, after weight loss, your body generally needs less energy. It can also respond by increasing hunger and becoming more efficient at conserving energy.

That makes maintaining your weight harder, even when you’re making a real effort.

Muscle deserves attention, too. Weight loss can include muscle as well as fat. Eating enough protein and doing regular strength training can help protect your muscle, strength and function.

But weight regain doesn’t prove that you failed to build good habits. And continuing medication isn’t a failure either.

What can you work on now?

✨ Nourishing yourself when your appetite is low.
✨ Including protein consistently.
✨ Building a manageable meal rhythm.
✨ Making strength and movement part of your routine.
✨ Planning ahead with your prescriber if treatment changes.

These are the practical skills at the heart of the eight-week GLP-1 nutrition support program I’m preparing to launch.
