One of my athletes is currently dealing with some hypertonicity in his peronealsTo address this, we need to recapture IR of the tibia thus giving him more access to his foot He’s currently slammed down through his mid foot and can’t access supination Contralateral loading to resist IR is how we are addressing this issueAs a coach, we need to pull from different disciplines to be a great problem solver In this case, in Bill we trust by @slater_hp

Your genetics and natural talent will only take you so far Your genetics and talent stop mattering once you find yourself in a position where everyone else is just as good as you are. The only way to separate yourself is to be consistentYes, you still need to train hard but you also have to LOVE the process. The boring days and the monotony are what separate yourself from everyone else At the end of the day, you learn to love it because you know in the end it makes you betterDrop a follow so you learn what actually works by @slater_hp

There’s no such thing as a sport specific programThere’s a squat. You get under it, you produce force, you stand upThe bar has no idea what you do on Saturday. It doesn’t care what position you play or what showcase you’re going toWhat people sell when they say ā€œsport-specificā€ is comfort. It sounds like it was built for you. It’s a label on the same work everyone else is doing, priced like it’s differentThe weight room and the sport are the same thing from a movement perspective. Both are you producing force. The sport is where you express it, the weight room is where you build itDanny Flatt in one offseason here added 18 pounds and 3 miles an hour. Nothing we did was ā€œsports specificā€#builtbyiht by @slater_hp

The ladder and comes aren’t completely useless. It’s just not a speed drill(Well the ladder is pretty much useless)It’s footwork (but not really). It’s coordination (but not really). It’s fine… (but not really)But it got sold as the thing that makes kids fast, and now there’s a generation who got sold a lie and spent multiple summers and off-seasons doing quick feet and never got fasterHere’s what actually decides your top speed: how much force you put into the ground, and how fast you put it thereThe ladder doesn’t ask you for force. Your foot barely touches the ground. Nothing gets loaded, nothing gets threatened, nothing changesThe four drills in the video all ask for one thing… put force into the ground, and do it nowIf a drill doesn’t ask you for force, it isn’t training speed…It’s training you to look busyDon’t get caught up in the ladder and cone scam #builtbyiht by @slater_hp

Your squat is a photograph. Your impulse is a videoThe squat tells you what you can do when time doesn’t matter. Take four seconds to get it up, grind the rep. It still countsYour sport doesn’t work like that. A swing is under half a second from hips to hands to bat. The first step out of a break is faster. Nobody’s giving you four secondsSo we test concentric impulse at 50 and 100 milliseconds… force expressed inside the window your sport actually gives youThe reason it’s worth testing is that it has real world implication Mason’s went from 136 to 276 in four weeks. That’s 102.94% in one training cycle…Your squat number is comfortable. It goes up if you keep showing upImpulse only goes up if you’re violent with it. That’s why we track it Most places don’t even know what impulse is #builtbyiht by @slater_hp

Athlete update from Mason Brady (@mason.brady14)Under 1% of all athletes can output 9000 watts(.1% of athletes at 206lbs)Mason just put out 9101w… completely smashing our gym record At a certain point, training intensity won’t get you better. You need a program that builds the FREAK athletes We’re building freak athletes at IHT Think anyone else will hit 9000+ by the end of the year? #builtbyiht by @slater_hp

Over speed sprinting is a GREAT way to get faster I typically sprint my athletes at 102-104% of their max velocity Overspeed (or assisted) sprinting allows for faster turnover rate which makes you sprint faster (pretty obvious I know) In this case Caleb decided to sprint with 7kg of assistance (about 107-110% of his max velocity) Hamstrings are scared of him by @slater_hp

The biggest issue I see all the time with acceleration are athletes popping up too early When your chest comes up too early, all your force starts going up instead of out We want to drop the shins and have them as close to parallel as we can to maximize the amount of force we can project forwards Single leg glute bridges and Chuck Barry walks are great fixesSometimes there can be an issue in the steps and that can be taken care of with cones or wickets We want to project our energy forwards, not up by @slater_hp

Here’s a look into a training session from Noah (@noahtbrown1)Noah is trying to walk on at The Citadel this fall. Meaning we don’t have a lot of time to get him readyWe threw Noah into an extremely stressful program so that he will have no choice but to adapt and become a freak 10 second lactic Friday is not for the weak #builtbyiht by @slater_hp

Add these 5 lifts in to immediately start jumping higher 1. Heavy Back Squat - Put more force into the ground - Recruit more Motor Units 2. Heavy RDL - Drive Hip Extension 3. Speed Back Squat - Get out of the hole fast - Train the exact pattern of the jump 4. Accel Jump Two Band - Train relaxation rate - Overload the eccentric and concentric 5. Hang Clean Pull from Blocks - Isolate Hip Extension by @slater_hp

If you’ve ever felt like your warmup isn’t working, it probably isn’t Performance as I’ve stated before starts at the brainUsing specific neuro lymphatic points on our body, we can not only tell the brain to turn on those muscles, but also put ourselves in the correct firing pattern that helps reduce injuries and asymmetries while also improving performance #sportsperformance #warmup #gym #training by @slater_hp

If you want to throw gas, you need to have the engine behind itHaving great mechanics is awesome but if there’s no output behind it, it doesn’t matter. It’s like driving a Ferrari with a Prius engine These 4 exercises are great to build the engine 1. Hatfield Split Squat- Overload the eccentric (build more muscle) - Maintain Pelvic Orientation 2. Bench Press DA OC- Train Relaxation rate - Great strength-speed stimulus 3. Banded Staggered Depth Jump - Overload ground reaction forces - Supramaximal eccentric velocity 4. Weighted Pull-Ups - Train Lats at fully stretched position - controlled upward rotation on the eccentric by @slater_hp
