We often hear yall at events asking “What can we do about this [insert form of oppression]?” “Will anything ever change?” One of the answers is to organize! We’re hosting our first ever Organizing 101 training graciously facilitated by @soulrevision👏🏾

Kim got her start as a community organizer in 2005 and has continued in that commitment for the last 21 years. In 2018 she co-founded the only bail fund in San Diego with fellow comrades to free community members who are held captive by the predatory bail system. She has spent the last 12 years in the labor movement or where she is responsible for training and developing staff and union members at her job.

From reproductive justice, policing and incarceration, immigration and public health, Kim has worked on various campaigns addressing these issues. In addition to that, she continues to train community on how to organize, develop and win successful campaigns as well as leadership development through her organizing trainings.

This training will be capped at ~ 30 participants so sign up at the link above and secure a spot. Food and drinks will be provided and there’s space in the form to share any accessibility needs.

The training will also be fully interactive and you’ll start putting the skills learned into practice that very same day. We’ve got a world to win yalll and we’ve got ways to win it. Come learn about one of the most important ways!

2025 what a year! Work-wise, it was the most stressful with some work trips that required me to go from city to city before coming home in between, but being able to hang with comrades and explore cities makes up for it in the end. Personally though, this was one of the most fun years. After all was said and done, out of 365 days in a year, I only spent 212 days at home, I was gone almost half the year 😩

2 of my favorite highlights from 2025:

1) My closest friends and I have been rockin with each other for 30+ years and we were all turning 40 this year. Since it was a milestone birthday, in 2024 we made a commitment to go wherever the other planned to celebrate their 40th and we kept that commitment. So we celebrated in and out of the country, together (Houston, Cancun, Greece, Rome, & Baltimore). No weapon, or work trip, formed against me was going to make me miss the chance to be with them 🖤

2) 2 of us have bdays in July and we managed to bring 30 of our closest friends and family out of the country to celebrate. I couldn’t imagine bringing my 40th in without my family so I flew my parents out and put them in a nice hotel room with an ocean view and that felt good. That trip ended up being the best (and maybe wildest 😜) group trip by far lol

Being anti-war is insufficient in 2025. We must become anti-imperialist. Imperialism is the highest stage of capitalism. Imperialism reinforces capitalism, especially here in the United States.

Sanctions are acts of war. The US is strangling Haiti. The US is strangling Cuba. The wars that the US imposes abroad always find their way back home.

Embrace Socialism. Why would we allow the opposition to dictate what’s good and bad for us? Organization is the only thing that will sustain social movements. Mobilization only takes us so far, organization is forever. by @soulrevision

We are at a critical moment in time as oppressed peoples are fighting for their liberation, sovereignty, right to self determination, and an end to imperialism. We are not only envisioning what liberatory worlds are possible but organizing towards that. Assata Shakur teaches us though that “theory without practice is just as incomplete as practice without theory. The two have to go together”. We recognize the need to engage both and we know that studying theory is best done collectively!

If political education calls to you, join this study group I’ll be facilitating on Lenin’s foundational text, State & Revolution. We’re going to slow the pace down so our community has enough time to read and process, and ensure that we can develop a shared analysis together. As such, we’ll meet every other Saturday starting May 18th from 2pm-4pm in person at @asiansolidaritycollective (swipe to see the reading schedule). We’ll conclude with chapter 7 and share our overall takeaways, analysis, learnings, and how we plan to apply it in practice (organizing). And if you know me, you know we’re going to breakdown definitions, meanings and apply context, so bring your notepads, pens etc and I’ll have my flip charts, markers and worksheets.

“A recent report found that in 2022, as rents spiked during the COVID-19 pandemic, a record half of U.S. renters paid more than 30% of their income for rent and utilities. Nearly half of those people were severely cost-burdened, paying more than 50% of their income.”

US homelessness rates hit a record high last year by the way. But the US must continue funding and fully participating in a g3nocide and expanding the war in the region. A lot of folks say those of us living in the imperial core (the US) shouldn’t worry about what’s happening over there (Middle East), yet what’s happening over there impacts us here in more ways than these two images. The contradictions are being heightened. by @soulrevision

I made a meme because I believe we need to ask better questions. The US has over 800+ military bases around the world and it’s not to protect “democracy” in the US (because it doesn’t exist here), it is not to “protect our freedom” (how would our ‘freedom’ end up in another country?), nor is it to protect/restore human rights in other countries (how can they do this when the human rights of people here are eroded everyday?).

The goal is to protect finance capital, expand US hegemonic rule, extract resources, destabilize and end democracy and socialist projects in the Caribbean, Latin America and the Global South through the backing of coups, or outright US invasion, to install puppet governments/leaders friendly to the US and its special interests.

There’s a reason MLK said that the US is the greatest purveyor of violence in the world. We need all US military bases around the world shut down, the end of AFRICOM, a drastic reduction in the budget for the military (congress just approved an $886 billion military budget) and the immediate demilitarization of the military and US police, all of our lives and livelihoods depends on this. by @soulrevision

All roads lead back to the US. There are many connections to be made between the settler colonial state of Isr*el and violent repression in other parts of the Global South but for now, I’m sharing this very specific connection to the US through the Deadly Exchange Program that I tweeted about a couple of weeks ago.

A quick roundup of tweets/posts centered around roe v wade that solidify the need for abolition and organizing.

They have told us every election is the most important election of our lives since we started voting and that we need to vote to change this. I offer to you that we cannot vote our way out of this, if that were true, we wouldn’t be where we are now. The ruling class would never allow power to be taken so easily which is why electoral politics is presented to us in a way that gives us just enough hope to believe that if we keep voting we can change everything while not changing much at all. This is why voting on its own is wholly insufficient. We can actually change the material conditions we’re living in here in the US, which would benefit everyone else, but it will require work and that work happens in organizations. There is no use legitimizing systems of oppression and tools of the capitalist class. Stop being afraid to organize towards bringing an end to systems that don’t serve the masses. George Jackson told us “fascism is already here” and that was in the 70’s! We have work to do.

The workers at the Staten Island Amazon warehouse just became the FIRST to unionize in the US. They won’t be the last either. This is one hell of a victory when you consider what it took for them to get here. @amazonlaborunion is a small, INDEPENDENT union that doesn’t have the staff nor resources that established unions have and they aren’t affiliated with any national union. Yet, they had strong leadership and organized around a clear set of goals. This was truly a worker-led effort! Let this be a reminder that ANYTHING is possible when we organize. Congratulations @chris.smalls_ and all the workers in Staten Island that made this victory possible!
