🌟 Reintroducing Myself & Celebrating Creativity in the Workplace 🌟

Hello extended family! Its been a minute since I re-introduced myself to you all and with many new followers and evolution of my work, I'd love to give you an update!

I’m Jyoti Jani Patel, your expert guide to transformative leadership and immersive organizational retreats and team workshops. Today, I’m thrilled to share a glimpse into a recent project that truly embodies my mission as founder at Spille:Play.

✨ Recent Highlight: I had the joy of designing and delivering an all-employee retreat for a wonderful team of 100. Imagine stepping into a space alive with interactive art exhibits, engaging in Lego serious play for breakthrough communication, and diving deep into applied improv games for dynamic learning. The day was enriched with insights from a nationally renowned DEI speaker, and our discussions blossomed into creativity at rotating tables laden with artful materials.

🚀 My Superpowers Unveiled: What fuels these experiences? My passion for crafting spaces where connections flourish and learning ignites. Leveraging the neuroscience of creativity, I design workshops and retreats to keep us in that sweet spot of flow—where creativity and performance peak. My commitment is to create an environment where every voice, from diverse cultural backgrounds and academic levels, finds safety and expression.

💃 The Beat of Our Learning: As a DJ, music is my heartbeat. It’s not just background noise; it’s a carefully chosen journey of energizing beats, soothing melodies, and inspiring messages. From dance games to energizers, I leverage music to keep our minds active and our bodies moving, ensuring that learning is a fully embodied experience.

🌱 My Dream For Us? It is to encourage open communication, deep listening, and bold creativity. Our workplaces, communities, and indeed, the world at large, are in need of our imagination.

Roll call for my organizational creatives and courageous change agents- drop an emoji that represents your passion for integrating arts based methods at work!

Your most powerful brand asset wasn’t your logo—It's your culture.

You can’t Photoshop trust. You can’t use PR to mask burnout either.

According to Gallup's research on employee engagement, engaged teams aren’t just a nice-to-have—they’re essential.
✅ 21% more profitable
✅ 17% more productive
✅ More innovative, resilient, and trusted

Your culture isn’t just about engagement metrics or a catchy mission statement. It’s how your leaders model well-being, how your teams collaborate creatively, and how psychological safety becomes part of your everyday rhythm.

The truth is, your internal culture is your brand—lived, felt, and embodied by your team. When you invest in creating spaces where people feel connected and valued, that energy becomes your most authentic brand statement.

It’s time to rethink culture—not as a cost, but as the foundation for sustainable success.

If this sparked something for you, let’s keep the conversation going. ✨ by @spilleplay

When was the last time you truly played?

Tomorrow on Cultural Luminaries, I’m joined by Jeff Harry, a thought leader who teaches how play can transform our work and our lives. As we celebrate my book launch this week, this episode is not just a conversation—it’s a party! 🎉

Jeff and I both believe that play is not a distraction—it’s the most effective way to learn, connect, and create. When we feel safe enough to play, we access our full cognitive and creative potential. This is how we move culture, how we shift systems, and how we create futures worth imagining.

Our workplaces are literally thirsting for play and its up to us to deliver it.

Also Jeff and I are one of a smaller group of play people who believe that play is the secret to dismantling oppressive and inefficient systems. Wanna talk about toxic cultural norms but through the lens of the trickster? Lets go!

👉 Join us as we talk about embodied leadership, the power of play, and how to unlock flow states in our work and lives.

🎧 Catch the episode Friday—let’s play, connect, and celebrate! Links in comments/bio.

Today is the day! 🌟

Creating Culture: Empowered Leadership for Systems Change is officially out in the world.

This moment feels surreal—knowing that anyone, anywhere, can now read my stories and ideas, see how my brain works, and step into my world. It’s vulnerable, but I feel strong and ready for whatever comes next.

To be honest, the past few weeks have been a whirlwind. Between launching a book, a new brand, a new website, live streaming, DJing, parenting, and planning the biggest party I've ever thrown—it all got to be too much. I felt the weight of the world’s chaos, and I spiraled into doubt, wondering if it was worth it.

But yesterday, everything shifted. I felt the love of friends, imagined gathering with my people, and something cracked open. The anxiety broke like a fever, replaced by giddy excitement. I realized that this isn’t just about me—it’s about creating something beautiful and necessary, for me and for us.

This book isn’t just about leadership or systems change. It’s about transforming pain into power, confusion into clarity, and fear into creative flow. It’s about finding peace and perspective, even in a world that feels unfair and unbalanced.

We are living through a time of crumbling trust and glaring double standards. But we also have the opportunity to write a new story—one where safety, creativity, and connection lead the way.

I hope you’ll join me at my launch party next week or dive into the book. Let’s create cultures where everyone can thrive.

📖 Creating Culture is now available on Amazon and IndieBound.
🎟 Special ticket price to my launch party for today only—$71!

What if I told you that your body is an instrument, and the way you tune it affects everything around you?

When I worked at Boeing, I watched brilliant, capable people struggle—not because they lacked skill but because the culture was out of tune. People were afraid to speak up, creativity was stifled, and fear led to critical blind spots in leadership. The tragic decline in Boeing's safety culture is a testament to what happens when fear overrides learning and listening.

🔍 Here’s the problem: Many workplaces operate in a de facto fear environment. When our nervous systems are in survival mode, we’re reactive instead of responsive. We play small, avoid risks, and creativity is blocked.

✨ The solution? Embodied leadership. Tuning into our bodies, learning to recognize signals of safety and danger, and creating spaces where people feel safe enough to play, experiment, and innovate.

In Creating Culture, I dive into how leaders can become cultural tuners, using emotional intelligence and creative tools to create environments where teams move from fear to flow, from stagnation to creative brilliance.

🎶 I’ll be exploring this more on Friday’s Cultural Luminaries podcast with Jeff Harry—where play is the main event!

When I set out to write Creating Culture five years ago, I didn’t realize I was writing my own story.

Like many of you, I’ve sat in boardrooms where my voice felt too loud and yet not heard at all. I’ve led teams at Boeing, shaping the development strategy for 2,000+ engineers and test pilots, but I often felt the invisible weight of systemic expectations. I was navigating spaces designed to dampen the full expression of our humanity—where creativity, intuition, and vulnerability were seen as weaknesses.

And yet, through it all, I found myself returning to one truth:

👉 Culture is energy, and creativity is how we move it.

I learned that when we cultivate embodied safety—when our bodies feel like safe places to be—we unlock a flow state. In this state, we lead with clarity, listen deeply, and co-create with others. It is where innovation thrives, where connections deepen, and where real change happens.

In Creating Culture, I share stories from my own journey, from the executive boardrooms to the dance floors and retreat centers. I weave in research on neuroscience and leadership, showing how the systems we live and work within shape our behaviors and how we can reclaim our power through creativity and play.

📅 The book launches TOMORROW! I can’t wait to share this with you.

This was one of the first moments Don Kennedy faced while leading the Charleston Shared Future Project, an initiative to reimagine the future of education in one of the most racially and educationally divided cities in the U.S.

By using tools like Lego modeling and storytelling—yes, play—Don brought people together who never thought they could see eye to eye. He turned tension into trust and division into dialogue.

This Friday, I’ll be speaking with Don about:
✨ How his experiences growing up in segregated South Carolina shaped his drive to create opportunities for all children.
✨ Lessons from the Charleston Shared Future Project on using creativity and play to build connection and inspire collaboration.
✨ Practical ways leaders can use play to transform systems and bridge divides.

🗓 When: Friday, January 17, 2025
⏰ Time: 10:00 AM PST | 1:00 PM EST | 6:00 PM GMT

✏️ As an experience designer and facilitator, one of my favorite things is designing ways for people to reconsider their “rules of play.”

From employee learning and development to systems like pay and performance management, I’ve seen firsthand how the structures we work within shape our creativity, engagement, and even our sense of self-worth.

But here’s the thing: we can change those rules.

On January 9th, join me and Aubrey Blanche-Sarellano on Cultural Luminaries as we explore how to design systems that work for people—not against them.

Aubrey's work, writing, and speaking has inspired me for many years. She is bold, creative, unapologetic with her views and paves the way for other culture creators globally through her work. She makes her own rules, and helps others make better rules too.

We’ll also explore her unique perspective, shaped by her experiences in both the U.S. and Australia. These two countries have different cultural, political, and social norms, and Aubrey’s insights bridge the divide. As we navigate global shifts—rising inequality, distrust in institutions, and questions around capitalism—how we approach fairness and belonging across cultures has never been more critical.

Fun fact - she also drops the only F bomb in my upcoming book, Creating Culture!

Aubrey’s work at Culture Amp and Atlassian is the perfect example of how intentional design can foster fairness, belonging, and innovation.

🚨 Mystery Guest Reveal! 🚨

For the inaugural episode of Cultural Luminaries, I'm bringing it close to home with someone who’s been by my side for 24 years—my partner, Tushar Patel, CFM, MSFM @tuzaar !

Join us Friday for a deeply personal and honest conversation about the powerful links between our relationships at home and how we lead in the workplace. 🌱

In addition to being my number one supporter, Tushar has 25+ years of experience in real estate, facilities management, and construction, working as a strategic advisor, design and construction manager, and owner’s representative for complex projects like campus and data center migrations.

He’s straightforward, grounded, and—lucky for me—a supportive ally both at home and in the workplace. Fun fact: he taught me to DJ! 🎶 We have also traveled around the world, renovated a 100 year old home, and are raising two kids together.

Together, we’ll be sharing insights on:

1. How building healthy relationships at home informs our professional lives
2. What we’ve learned as partners and parents raising two strong girls
3. How Tushar has grown into a stronger ally for women, both at work and at home

I wanted this first episode to feel real and intimate, showing you how the personal journeys we take are the foundation of the change we bring to our professional lives.

📅 Tune in on LinkedIn Live Friday at 10 AM PST for a candid conversation with someone who’s helped me grow and inspires me every day.

✨ Don’t miss it—RSVP and let’s dive into the real work of creating culture from the ground up. Link in bio! by @spilleplay

✨ Cover Reveal! ✨

I am thrilled to share the cover of my book, Creating Culture: Empowered Leadership for Systems Change, a project years in the making. This isn’t your typical leadership book—the colors and design reflect my unique lens as a woman of color, an artist, a mother, and a facilitator. I wanted it to stand out for those who think creatively and see the world through a systems lens.

When I saw the finished cover for the first time, I was beyond excited. The fractal pattern on the cover isn’t just for design—it symbolizes how small patterns scale up to impact whole systems, one of the core ideas explored in the book.

Inside, you’ll find a guidebook for leading systems change that combines personal stories, research-backed frameworks, and practical tools. It’s designed for both deep reading and as a reference guide, with an accompanying framework I’ll be sharing soon. I can’t wait to see it in your hands and hear your thoughts on this journey toward creating culture!

Stay tuned for more updates, and thank you for being a part of this with me. 💫

Taking the Leap! 🎶🌍

At the WTC Seattle Spring Mixer, I took a bold step by making music the foundation of a learning experience for the first time. As a world music DJ and an expert in the neuroscience of emotional intelligence and creativity, merging these passions was a transformative experience for me!
I led an interactive activity exploring the 4 emotional zones through music, culminating in a joyous dance party! Even though it was a risk, seeing the positive impact on the attendees and faces and bodies light up, reaffirmed my belief in the power of music as a teaching tool for emotional intelligence.

Embodied techniques that activate our senses, such as improv and art, have always been part of my repertoire. Now, I'm proud to add music more directly into my facilitation toolkit and embrace my DJ skills in this new context.

I'm so grateful to @jeffharryplays for encouraging me to experiment, @alisonstardust for the invitation, and to Kendall, Nadhiya and the many others who played alongside me.

A huge thank you to WTC Seattle and Wes from @wunderlandevents Events for playing alongside me and to everyone who danced and played. This experience reinforced my commitment to using creative approaches to build stronger, healthier, and more inclusive high-performing cultures. I am excited to integrate more music into my future retreats, workshops, and facilitation.
