My daughter’s entrance into this world changed every fiber of my being.

I’m in awe of all of the mothers in my life, and feel so lucky to have a special few who have been holding me up and showing me the way. I’m especially grateful for my own mother, who has flown across the country and back four (!!!) times in the last seven months to be here with us and to support me.

Motherhood has so many forms. I’m amazed by the pumping moms, the breastfeeding moms, and the formula feeding moms; by the stay at home moms and the working moms; by the moms struggling with postpartum depression, anxiety, and rage; by the moms who have lost a child (or multiple children); by the moms who have nothing more to give, yet still show up again and again and again; by the moms who are mothering without their mothers.

Every cliché is true. Motherhood is the most challenging and most beautiful thing I’ve ever done. I never understood this level of sacrifice or this level of love. I still can’t believe that my body was capable of building this perfect child.

Four years without you and this one hits so differently. It’s so difficult to even know where to start unpacking my emotions... But as I do on this day every year, I’ll sit down later and write you a letter full of everything you’ve missed and everything I wish you could know. You have the happiest, sweetest, most gorgeous granddaughter, and it breaks my heart every day that you’ll never meet her. But I see glimpses of you in her. I read her books you gave me and books you loved, and as she grows, we’ll make sure she knows who you are. I miss you every single day. I love you so much. by @stacymichelle

This has been such a challenging (albeit truly beautiful) season of life. So, for my birthday this year, instead of typical “happy birthday” wishes, I’d love if anyone reading this would share a positive memory they have of/with me. Did I do something that made you laugh? Did I work on something that brought you joy?

Also worth mentioning, I felt SO tempted to edit this photo before posting it. It’s so easy to pick out every single flaw, especially at a time where my body still doesn’t feel like mine. But at least for today, I’m choosing to embrace myself as I am. It’s a weird dichotomy to recognize and honor how much my body went through to make the incredible tiny human (who is currently napping on my chest), yet still want that same body to “bounce back.” But I look at my daughter and think about how it would break my heart if she ever thought she was anything less than perfect. And so today, as my mother’s daughter, and my daughter’s mother, I allow myself to feel like I’m enough, exactly as I am right now. by @stacymichelle

December 2024.

My primary emotion looking back on 2024 is gratitude. Yes, this year was incredibly challenging at times… But it also brought me an abundance of adventure, love, laughter, support, new friendships, opportunity, shifts in perspective, growth, and time with the people who mean the most to me. 🤍 by @stacymichelle
