💻 Registration is open for the third annual "Reimagining Democracy" speaker series, presented by Stanford Continuing Studies in partnership with the Office of Community Engagement, @stanforddemocracyhub, and @stanford_cddrl.

This free, virtual, six-part series kicks off October 7 and runs weekly through November 11, hosted by Dean Debra Satz and CDDRL's Larry Diamond, Mosbacher Senior Fellow in Global Democracy @fsi_stanford. As the U.S. marks 250 years since its founding and heads into the November midterms, Stanford scholars will dig into the ideas shaping democracy today: federalism, global democratic trends, the role of money in politics, voting rights, electoral reform, and the meaning of civic service.

CDDRL faculty are woven throughout the lineup — Alberto Díaz-Cayeros and Anna Grzymala-Busse bring their comparative expertise to the October 14 conversation on global democracy and elections, Didi Kuo turns to political parties and reform on October 21, and Nate Persily closes out October with a look at voting rights on the 28th. Other sessions bring in Stanford colleagues from across law, history, and public service.

All sessions will be recorded, and videos will be available afterward for those unable to attend live.

📅 Wednesdays, October 7 to November 11
⏰ 4:00 - 5:00 pm PT

CDDRL's Democracy Action Lab (DAL) is thrilled to announce the organizations participating in the first cohort of its Democracy Garage — the first accelerator program of its kind dedicated to strengthening frontline democracy defenders across Latin America and the Caribbean.

Over the next few months, DAL will work side by side with eight organizations across the region, applying a structured accelerator methodology to co-develop strategies tailored to each country's democratic challenges. It's a deep collaboration grounded in evidence, strategy, and solidarity — built to close the gap between high-level research and the real-time needs of those doing the hardest work on the ground.

Over the last nine months, I’ve traveled across America speaking about the ideas in my book, Autocrats vs. Democrats.

I've been to 13 states and given dozens of talks— including four in Texas, two in Montana, and over a dozen in California alone. This has allowed me to meet and hear from people in different parts of our great country, and I’ve summarized some of my main takeaways in a new essay at McFaul’s World.

I also want to say thank you to everyone who came out. The enthusiastic, welcoming crowds, the standing ovations, and the long book-signing lines have inspired me to stay in the fight for defining America’s role in the world!

I’m taking a break for the rest of the summer, but I’ll be back on the road this fall with stops at Cornell University, Salve Regina University, the University of Toronto, and the University of Utah among those planned.

If you have ideas for other stops, send me an email!

Visit McFaul's World or see link in bio to read my latest essay.
