Less-than-ideal lead-in to race day. And just like that, it’s race weekend. ❤️ And as much as I still love chasing my own big goals, one of my favorite parts of this whole journey has become sharing it with my kids. I want them to grow up seeing what it looks like to dream big, work hard, and keep showing up. Even when it’s uncomfortable and especially when it’s hard. There’s something pretty special about getting to choose this. The early mornings, the miles, the discipline, the decision to keep going. And even more special about the people who make it possible. To Marc, who supports this crazy pursuit day in and day out. And to my sister and parents, who step in to love on our kids so I can go chase these dreams. None of this happens without you. ❤️ And when I look back, I know it won’t always be the times on the clock I’ll remember. It’ll be moments like these. The work is done. Grateful for every bit of it, proud of what it took to get here, and ready to see what I’ve got… despite the less than ideal race day weather. One more start line. One more chance to show them what’s possible. Chicago, let’s do this. P.S. Can we talk about that stride?! 😍 Pretty sure I’m the one taking notes here. And today Celia had her first full day of Montessori school! Despite her telling me that she “didn’t play with none body”, I think she thoroughly enjoyed herself. Her teacher told me she excelled at cleaning and tidying up and she must do it a lot at home 🤔 So proud of my baby. Time, please slow down. #celiawren by @steeredc

First day of kindergarten. 😭 He rode his bike to school, I jogged home for the bonus miles, and somehow my baby is officially a kindergartener. Last night we read The Kissing Hand and drew hearts on all of our favorite people so he could carry a little piece of us with him today. We had a wonderful full summer and ready to start this new chapter. So proud of our sweet, goofy, brave boy and so excited for everything ahead. What a big little day. #orinclarke by @steeredc

They say you never forget your first heartbreak 💔. Much like the elevation profile, there were countless ups and downs in my race, but what will stick with me most is the energy I felt running those iconic streets. A little after mile 21, after I knew the worst was behind me and the goals were out the window, I chose to embrace the moment and high-fived every member of the crowd I could. Some of them jolted me backwards but the momentum it gave me was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. Moment met. Thanks for the incredible vibes, Boston. I didn’t get my A goal. Or my B goal. Or tbh, my C goal. But Boston gave me everything else. I’m so inspired by the runners, the spectators and especially the volunteers. Every single mile was lined with energetic crowds screaming and spending their day off cheering for us. It was unlike anything else and completely lives up to the hype. Despite not being aggressive at the start, my quads were shot by mile 7 and essentially every step from then on made me wince in pain. The ups hurt. The downs hurt. The flats (were there actually any flats?) hurt. But I gave it what i had on the day and that’s all you can do. Beyond grateful for the experience 💙💛🦄 by @steeredc

A dream come true. That’s my reminder for this weekend. I made it to the start line—now I get to do everything I can to make it to the finish (as fast as I can). This will be marathon #5 (not counting Ironmans). My first BQ attempt was at CIM back in 2013, during a brief break from triathlon. It was cold, icy, and I missed it by just a few minutes. Fast forward ten years—and two babies later—I lined up for my second marathon (CIM), 10 months postpartum. I hit the qualifying time… but missed the cutoff by four seconds. A tough pill to swallow. I went after it again the next year and finally secured my spot in Columbus. Then raced in Eugene and had a flat day. Built up strong for my A race in Chicago, then a sacral stress fracture sidelined me. I recovered. Rebuilt. Kept going. And now, here we are, in Boston. It’s been a journey of highs and lows, patience, resilience, and showing up again and again. A dream come true. And now, it’s time to run. Let’s go. 💙💛🦄 taken in Boston Marathon by @steeredc

It’s weird. My newborn is 3 today! 🤷‍♀️ Her brother still calls her “baby” more than her actual name, so at least there’s that. She got a day filled with her favorite things and a dinner plate full of farro, beans and Kalamata olives (don’t ask).
