Meet my new stitch friend, @mimi_dbk! I would never have guessed that I would find needlepoint at a Saturday morning market in Old Town Dubrovnik. I love my new pouch-a perfect souvenir of a beautiful city and reminder of a new friendship! IG has brought so many of us close even though we’re oceans apart 🥰.

Because of @ricksteveseurope we knew to look for this treasure when we visited the Church of Our Lady of the Rocks on our stop at the port of Kotor, Montenegro. Listen to this #needleworkstory then swipe to see close ups of her amazing work. Over the 20 years that she embroidered this gift, her hair changed color which gave shading to the cherub’s hair, finishing with gray for Mary’s when completion was near.

Every needlework piece has a story-this one is wonderful!

For all tourists in Turkey a visit to the rug store is almost mandatory. Take a look at the process silk goes through to become the beautiful threads we use in needlepoint. by @stitches.and.style

In 1710 New Bern, NC was settled by Swiss Palantines to become the second oldest town in NC. We are proud of that heritage and relationship with our sister city, Bern, Switzerland. Come see us!

Thank you @madeinncstore for producing a canvas for New Bern locals, visitors to our beautiful city and stitchers visiting Switzerland. This historic image is iconic and represents both cities. Contact them for more information if you’re interested in this fun needlepoint project.

We are getting excited about our quick London stopover in early November to see the #bayeuxtapestry at the British Museum. This canvas from the @annie.bouquet set was purchased a few years ago when we were France to see the tapestry the first time. It has been stitched for quite a while and this was the perfect time to get it finished.

Some stitchers were at Fall Market today but eastern NC was celebrating the opening of its newest LNS, @thecoastalstitch in Edenton, NC. It is officially the closest to me now at 1 1/2 hours away. Congratulations to Kelly and best wishes! My stitch buddy, @ldpate1, and I had the best girl’s day and we’re so glad we were able to come from New Bern and Raleigh to be there on this special day.

Today’s the day to bring out my precious needlepoint acorns made from rescued vintage canvases!! After being in the refrigerator all year they get to join my John Darien squirrel from @target that’s just the right size. I’m so happy that I was able to gather these acorns before @smwollmandesigns retired from pumpkin and acorn making. They bring me so much joy! I’m ready to move on to October this week.

Meet Sydney, the owner of @parkvilleneedlepointhouse, the Kansas City area’s newest LNS! This shop is just charming and every corner is full of needlepoint goodies. I stopped in to kit a canvas and found a cute strap canvas by my friend, @francesabelstudio, to add to my stash. Congratulations to all you KC stitchers who have this new LNS-you are so fortunate! Swipe through for a quick tour. by @stitches.and.style

See today’s stories for more details. This was a very quick repurpose of an early to mid 20th century canvas that I thrifted today for half price-yep $2! I had been looking for a canvas to put in my Sudberry House pincushion form-another thrifted find. This one was pliable enough to form around the foam even with the glued edges. I just broke up the glue to soften it up so I could work with the canvas.

It’s been a good finish week and I’m so glad I’ve been able to give some forgotten needlepoint a new life!

The Mod Podge seals the stitches so there is no unraveling. You can use Fray Check on edges also but I didn’t find it necessary. It’s floated on a coordinating acid-free paper.

Needlepointers love church kneelers and I have shared hundreds with you as I’ve visited the churches of the UK. They have been some of my most popular posts. They reflect the symbols of church, culture and history. Some are very humble and some are amazingly elaborate. We, as needlepointers, connect to these kneelers and their stitchers from decades ago and are always delighted to enter a church and find them.

Well, now I have my own! How did this kneeler get to an antique store in Raleigh NC? I’m so glad that I was in the right place at the right time to rescue it and bring it home.

This kneeler’s canvas was adapted to be used as an attractive foot stool. We see the Worcester Cathedral, the Guildhall, the Severn River, and the County Cricket Club. The shields are for the cathedral and the City of Worcester.

It has been Penny approved!
