The non-human creatures have spoken 🗯️

We would like normal temperatures back 🔆🫠, we don't like being surrounded by chemicals ☣️ and we want clean water in our rivers and seas 🚱

Their words will be taken to the This is the North convention 2026 in Scarborough 👀

Thank you to all the beings who attended the workshop, Wild Roots Community Garden, the Whoseburn Project by Building Culture, People's Powerhouse, the Arts Council and the National Lottery Community Fund.

🌿 More than Human: Ouseburn Multispecies Futures

🗓️ 5th September at 2-4pm
📍Wild Roots Community Garden in Ouseburn
Free but booking required - link in bio
Suitable for all ages

Join the artist James Stephen Wright at the Wild Roots Community Garden for an exciting dive into the world of multispecies futures and create a digital artwork to be displayed at the This is the North Convention in Scarborough!

Inspired by the community garden, we will make masks of the different creatures that could inhabit the Ouseburn and imagine what they need to keep their community going. Embodying the non-human creatures, we will collectively do a masked performance, which will be transformed digitally by interacting live with local climate data ☀️🌱

With thanks to the People's Powerhouse, supported by the Arts Council & the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Building Culture.

Strange Quark's project 'Day in the Life: Stories from the Vauxhall Community' is coming to the TechNExt Creative Hub this Friday in Sunderland! ✨

Day in the Life is a mixed reality VR experience celebrating the Vauxhall community in Luton commissioned by Luton Council and supported by the Heritage Fund.

Inspired by the archival material collected for the Luton Made: Vauxhall exhibition, the experience combines the narrative-based game format with a celebration of local history. The visitor journey begins with the selection of a car avatar to become a time-traveller attending key community events from Vauxhall's history. As part of the experience, the viewers meet Vauxhall workers, attend events such as sports days and children birthday parties, and visit the canteen to experience the sale of the company.

The time-travel stops let the visitors experience key historical moments on the production line, migration, vehicle design development and Vauxhall’s contributions during the Second World War. As the visitors navigate through the storyline, they acquire key items that represent the history of Vauxhall in Luton. The gamified experience is complete when the visitor has collected all of the items bringing the time-traveller back to the present.

Also on view at @stockwooddiscoverycentre until July 2026

Videocity (Newcastle, UK), Forum Sudutpandang (Palu, ID), and independent curator Chiara Giardi (Jakarta, ID) partnered in "Extraction Echoes," a video-art project unearthing stories of extraction across borders. 🌍📽️

This multi-layered collaboration explored the "echoes" of mining in Northern England and Central Indonesia, revealing how human activity reshapes our landscapes and kinship with the earth.

By bringing video art into public spaces—from cinema cafes in Newcastle to community space in Palu and flea markets in Jakarta—the project facilitated dialogue on sensitive socio-environmental topics and the ethics of resource use, both by artists and the general public.
