One of the most memorable “In The Wild” programs of 2025 was at Aspen Center for Environmental Studies, @acesaspen Hallam Lake, which has been serving the community’s youth and adults alike since 1968. We took a deep breath, explored the terrain just down the hill from town, and dwelled in the landscape. After a good deal of wandering, we gathered by the platforms where Eli Bucksbaum from Studio MAXIMA facilitated a conversation called Artist Assembly, posing questions about what we can learn by spending more time in nature and how those lessons might help us live more harmoniously with our surroundings.

The Aspen Design Conference invites you to wander. Designed by Studio MAXIMA (@studio_maxima_ ) Wander Cards appeared throughout the weekend — drawn before talks, during In The Wild programs, or while sitting in the gallery getting to know someone new.   Each card invited your mind, body, and spirit to move through the Aspen Valley with curiosity. Some people followed them faithfully. Others bent the rules, challenged the prompts, or made up their own.

However they were used, the cards reminded us of the importance of asking questions, leaning in to one another, exploring the landscape, and embracing the simple act of wandering. by @studio_maxima_

Two of Ken Higaki’s (@ken_higaki) paintings from the Studio MAXIMA Residency—Garden and Natural Process—are off to new homes in NYC. Always a treat having these big beauties back in the studio, even if just for a little while.

And big news—Ken’s heading to Berlin at the end of April for a two-month painting residency. Let’s give it up for him! Congrats, Ken!
