Xirómero / Dryland is a collective, interdisciplinary work conceived by Thanasis Deligiannis and Yannis Michalopoulos, created along with the artists Elia Kalogianni, Yorgos Kyvernitis, Kostas Chaikalis, and Fotis Sagonas.

Λίγο πριν κλείσει η 9η Μπιενάλε Σύγχρονης Τέχνης Θεσσαλονίκης, «όλα πρέπει να αλλάξουν. ΡΝΣ9», καθίσαμε με τη Νάντια Αργυροπούλου και τους Y2K architects και τα είπαμε όλα — τα ωραία, τα δύσκολα, τα ασήμαντα που τελικά είναι τα πιο σημαντικά.

Αναπτύξαμε μια οπτική ταυτότητα, αποκριτική, ικανή να απορροφά αναβολές και αλλαγές προγράμματος. Το εμπόδιο έγινε η μέθοδος.

Για τη διαδρομή από τις εικόνες αρχείου των διαδηλώσεων και το χειρονομιακό του δρόμου, μέχρι την ιδέα της άχνας: το σύνθημα γραμμένο σε ένα τζάμι, που κρατά όσο μια ανάσα.

Για το un-design: σχεδιασμός που δεν περιγράφει έναν κόσμο, τον ενεργεί. Που αρνείται την «εταιρική τελειότητα» και είναι πάντα in flux, ποτέ τελειωμένο, πάντα διαπραγματεύσιμο — όπου η τριβή, οι αποτυχίες και οι επαναλήψεις γίνονται το ίδιο το έργο.

Και για όλα τα υπόλοιπα: το πλασματάκι με τα τρία ψαράκια στο κεφάλι που έγινε αγαπημένο όλων, τα γενέθλια πάνω σε αναβατόρια, τους τεχνίτες που γελούσαν με την ιδέα να φτιάξεις κάτι για να το χαλάσεις μετά. Και τον κύριο Ηλία, που έβαψε την πρόσοψη και ήταν πραγματικά ο καλύτερος. 💚

While We’re Together —

A few years ago, we designed this book together. It documents the time a group of artists, writers, and thinkers spent in Athens during the pandemic — gathered at Onassis AiR, navigating the world’s failures and each other’s presence.

The book is many things at once: a theoretical essay on crisis and potentiality, a recipe for a foraged meal, a guide to shapeshifting, an invitation to a monster ball, a spell for sealing transformations. It holds all of that, gently, between two covers.

Almost a workbook for togetherness. Throughout the book, smaller cut-out pages invite you to write your own note, your own response, your own thought. You can keep it, fold it, pass it to someone. The book doesn’t just ask you to read — it asks you to participate, to leave a trace, to share.

None of it would have flowed without Alexander Strecker, who edited the book and carried the thread between all the participants — quietly making sure the many voices found their way to each other.

Togetherness has been on our minds a lot lately. And this book keeps reminding us that togetherness isn’t a given — it’s something practiced, rehearsed, and sometimes quietly failed. The title comes from that honest, tender place: *while* we’re together. Not forever. Not guaranteed. Just — now.

There’s a moment in one of the texts we keep returning to: a group of people on a balcony, watching Elon Musk’s Starlink satellites move across the sky in a perfect chain. No one made art of it. No one performed. They just watched — together. We think that’s the whole book, in one image.

Με τον αμφίσημο τίτλο, “όλα πρέπει να αλλάξουν. RIS9”, η 9η Μπιενάλε Σύγχρονης Τέχνης Θεσσαλονίκης διοργανώνεται από το MOMUS και επιμελείται από την ανεξάρτητη επιμελήτρια Νάντια Αργυροπούλου. Μετά από ένα προοίμιο το διάστημα Οκτωβρίου-Νοεμβρίου το 2025 γύρω από τις επαναστατικές δυνατότητες της επιστημονικής φαντασίας και μέσα από μια σειρά ενδιάμεσων συνεργασιών και εκδηλώσεων, η Μπιενάλε θα πραγματοποιήσει την κύρια έκθεσή της μεταξύ 23 Μαΐου και 5 Ιουλίου 2026.

Currently designing the visual identity and graphics for the 9th Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art—and yes, things are already getting interesting.
This Biennale is doing things differently this year: changing shape, stretching time, and refusing to fit into boxes. (It keeps us on our toes, trust us.)

With its opening celebration on October 31st (and it’s just the beginning), the main program unfolds later in 2026, with more announcements on the way.

Until then, we’re shaping an identity that evolves as the Biennale evolves— step by step, idea by idea.
