Through art, I have learned that healing is not linear; it’s a journey. Art has helped me navigate my own grief, and now I am using it to help others do the same. In honor of the deep impact my sister had on my life, I wanted to create something meaningful for the 27 years she shined her light with the world and I wanted to honor 27 sunflower souls' whose lives were lost to violence, fentanyl, and the survivors of domestic violence with this grant. The workshops in Phoenix, San Diego, and New York City, were my way of giving back—creating a space for healing and connection.

The "Sunflower Soul" collection, featuring 27 portraits, holds a special place in my heart. Starting in October 2025, it will be part of the Sunflower Soul Project Healing Art Tour. These portraits will travel to various organizations, where they will become a part of the trauma-informed training—offering healing, awareness, and a reminder of the strength and resilience we carry. It’s my hope that through this journey, these images will inspire and uplift those who need it most. This vision would not be possible without the vulnerability, support and dedication of those who contributed to this project.

SUNFLOWER SOUL!

I was recently approached by an educator who hired me last year to come share my story and my sister’s light with her class. She shared that another educator, who had also brought her students to hear my story, was inspired that she changed her entire classroom decor to SUNFLOWERS. 🌻 Turning towards the sun has become her classroom motto.

Knowing that my sister’s light continues to inspire others in meaningful ways... means so much to me. 🌻🌻🌻's came to me in my darkest moments, when I needed to meet someone, opportunities, etc. I knew it was not a coincidence. I followed the sun, documented my journey, kept going, rested, and the list goes on. I'm just getting started and am looking forward to future projects, conferences, and programs in the near future. It’s about the journey.

STOP THE VIOLENCE!

Last night, I attended the Light Arizona Purple to Support Domestic Violence Awareness & Prevention at the Capitol.

Over the past couple of years, I have witnessed and heard about vital programs, hotlines, and prevention initiatives being cut or significantly reduced due to funding challenges and changes within government. These are not simply programs on a budget sheet, they are lifelines for individuals and communities seeking help, resources, and support.

Prevention and RESOURCES save lives. 🌻🌻🌻🌻

Let's heal, Sunflower Soul 🌻

ART HEALS. Art can become a bridge between what we feel inside and what we are able to express outside. It can help us create a new relationship with what we have experienced.

Try it sometime, you don't need much: Paper, pencil or some markers or paint (brush, etc) 😉 Turn on some music and start experimenting. Add layers. Paint over some things and watch your masterpiece come to life. Don’t worry about what it’s going to look like.

Life is not perfect, why should our art be. That is the beauty of it and what sets us free.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Around 100 City of Phoenix employees and community members at Encanto Park. I really enjoy facilitating this event every year.

This year, I am collaborating with:

🌻ALL VINYL RECORD PLAYING DJ ROSEWAX, she will be playing the jams for the evening. Oldies but goodies. She never disappoints!!!!

Born and Raised, in Phoenix, Arizona. Rosewax is an all vinyl record playing DJ. In, 2012, she first played publicly in an art galleries in the Phoenix Art Scene.
Music Selections start in the 1950's all the way to early 2000. Rosewax brings a feminine aura to her music; playing songs a male DJ might not play.
Rosewax plays for the people, you can always find her somewhere in the Valley of the Sun. Music keeps her Connected to the Community and that's her Why.

🌻Chelsea was recommended by a trusted organization @bgbgcollective (Thank you) As soon as I saw her style. I knew I had to hire her. She will be playing two songs at the beginning of programming.

Chelsea is a Southern California born, self taught instrumentalist with a passion for international music and performance. Since learning the violin at age 9, she has picked up piano, guitar, ukelele and the Andean flutes. For the last decade, she has performed locally and privately for audiences all over Southern California alongside family sharing her family's music as well as her own interpretations of well known songs. In August of 2021, Chelsea moved to Phoenix, AZ were she can now be seen and heard locally at festivals, farmers markets, and wherever her music takes her!

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜

Shining light on an issue that brought so much pain as a secondary survivor of violence. My sister was a cool breeze on a summer day. A person who was chill, fun, witty, girlie girl, and loving. She was the life of the party, enjoying life and taking care of her children. She was at every event (birthday, healing events, holidays, etc.) and she loved her family so much. She was everyone’s cheerleader, always encouraging and supporting the people she loved. She was spoiled by her siblings because she was the youngest out of 9. She was my baby sister, and I had the privilege of watching her grow from a little baby into the beautiful young woman she became. I helped care for her when she was a child. I visited her during college, created her prom dresses and did her makeup, celebrated her graduations, helped move her into her dorm, assisted with resumes, made home visits, and stood by her side in the delivery room when she gave birth to my niece and nephew. I was there for so many chapters of her life, and her life matters! I honor my sister, Delores EVERY DAY. My forever SUNFLOWER SOUL.

🌻More than 1 in 3 women (34%) in the U.S. — about 43.5 million women have experienced contact sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime.

🌻More than 1 in 6 men — about 20.7 million men have experienced one of those forms of intimate partner violence during their lifetime.

🌻About 1 in 5 homicide victims are killed by an intimate partner, according to CDC data. More than half of female homicide victims are killed by a current or former male intimate partner.

Hello, my name is Tiesha and I AM a vessel for God’s work as a Storytelling Visual Artist who uses art to engage, educate, uplift and transform the community. My paintings serve as visual narratives, reflecting my life experiences and community through vibrant portraits and abstract expressions of mark-making and color. I founded Sunflower Soul Project; a healing arts + justice initiative that supports secondary survivors of homicide through the transformative power of art, neuroscience, and trauma-informed training after losing my sister.

As a secondary survivor, I experienced firsthand how difficult it can be to navigate the family and legal system during a time of grief and trauma. These experiences have fueled my passion to contribute my lived experience and advocacy skills to help families, advocates and communities feel supported.

Sunflower Soul Project is rooted in trauma-informed care and practices, nervous system regulation, self expression, long-term community healing, mental and emotional well-being.

I have worked with a diverse range of clients, delivering speaking engagements, trauma-informed training and facilitating healing art experiences in schools, conferences, and galas, while also partnering with cities, nonprofits, and organizations through contracts and community initiatives.

I am a creative leader with over 15+ years of event planning experience. So there is no limit to what we can do at Sunflower Soul Project and each EXPERIENCE is tailored and aligned to the needs of your organization.

My sister Delores was an amazing mom, sister, daughter, etc. Her light shines so bright. She had this fun and welcoming personality. She loved her children and family so much that she would do anything for them. Being able to watch my sister grow into a mother and woman that she was is a gift that I would always cherish. My sister was so funny and witty. Lol. Just like her children. I see it in them when I talk with them. And her laugh was so dinstinct. No one else has this type of laugh. She was soooo supportive even if she had millions of things to do, she found time to support us. Either she or I would always be the first to arrive at every niece and nephew’s party. It eventually became an inside joke between us about who would be the first to play with our nieces and nephews. And the list goes on. She will always be my baby sister, and I miss her so much.

Today is National Day of Remembrance for Homicide Victims.

Every family deserves JUSTICE. Thousands of unresolved cases and missing-person cases leave families without answers, closure, or peace. No family should have to live with unanswered questions. They deserve answers, accountability, and justice.

@azforsafety is doing the work 👏🏾! We need more detectives, more funding, and the resources necessary to ensure no case is forgotten and no family is left without answers.
