Sealed with a kiss...well a lick anyway.
The annual "Dinner with the Designers" @heals_furniture, was, as ever, a lavish spread at an immensly long table at the front of the store. A sort of central barricade of tall orchids made getting pics a bit tricky. But - bombshell! @hamish_mansbridge, surely one of nicest people in retail or anywhere else for that matter, announced that after 11 years, he was leaving, taking Puffin the whippet with him. Oh, how we shall miss him and his unfailing good nature, the generous sponsor of @greengradsuk from the off. Thank you Hamish! For starters, Hamish publicly and generously announced my MBE ...I was so overcome I am not sure what he said! The dinner table was up against the front window with passing red buses adding a surrel touch (see pic).
Hamish joined Heal’s in 2015 and has overseen a complete revamp of its landmark Tottenham Court Road flagship; he's pushed Heal's out into the regions and upped activities on line while continuing to champion established and emerging design talent through Heal’s Discovers and other initiatives.

Somehow this was VERY SPOOKY! These shoes were left just like this outside Goodge Street tube at around 7pm Wednesday night. They look all ready to start walking, with or without human agency. by @sunnygran

Visit @kewgardens on "the hottest day of the year" with indomitable @judithsimpson1155 (my sister!) as companion...and you will find it virtually deserted. Imagine: all those spectacular #henrymoore sculptures, both outside, and in a charming air-conditioned gallery, completely to ourselves! Monumental magic and never to be forgotten. Top tip: it's less than half price after 4pm! by @sunnygran

From my archive. The distinguished ceramicist, David , 12th Marquess of Queensberry, died on July 22nd aged 96. He was one half of the celebrated Queensberry Hunt partnership, known in particular for their elegant modernist tableware. I took these pictures without flash in available light at the @homesandgardensofficial Classic Design Awards, 2010, in the @vamuseum. Together with his business partner Martin Hunt, David won the Homes & Gardens Judges Award. (I was a judge, then chair of judges for many years). Martin Hunt died in 2018 aged 75.
Here are some of David Queensberry’s thoughts on design:
“The art of design that gives form and function to the products that we use has more impact on our lives than any other art. As designers of ceramics for daily use, we are working within the traditions of the oldest craft of which we have a continuous record. The earliest functional vessels for the storage and preparation of food are from the early Jomon period (13,000BC-300BC) in Japan. Many of the archetypal ceramic forms that are still used today were established many thousands of years ago. Ceramics have a particular place in our lives, being both utilitarian and appreciated as works of art. The simplest pots designed for use in one period can become treasured works of art to future generations. As designers working in the 21st Century, we are influenced by the trends and fashions of our time, but we are also respectful of the long history of our subject. It is through the synthesis of these, at times conflicting, elements that we aim to achieve lasting value in our work.” @studiolevien @tristramhuntva @giles.kime @debsb56 by @sunnygran

To celebrate the wedding of my beautiful granddaughter @nancmorris to @harrybaz27 I asked my dear friend and artist supreme Sarah Campbell @sarahcampbelldesigns if she could possibly add something personal to the beautiful table runners which she paints by hand - and are featured on her website (I am a big fan -do check it out). Look what she did! It was so in keeping with our wonderful family event yesterday. Full of summer joy. Sarah, I cannot thank you enough for this unique artwork. They love it! by @sunnygran
