🎓✨ On October 5, 2026, the Occupational Therapy program celebrated the induction of 14 high-achieving Master’s students into the Pi Theta Epsilon (PTE) National Honor Society!

Bringing together loved ones and faculty, the ceremony honored the inductees’ academic performance, leadership, and passion for the field. Beyond showcasing the students' hard work, this milestone celebrated how occupational therapists transform health and well-being through compassionate service, clinical excellence, and high-quality care.

Caring for someone with pancreatic cancer comes with difficult decisions and a constant search for information and options.

More than 67,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer each year, and many families are navigating this journey together.

SUNY Downstate is currently enrolling eligible participants in the C3 clinical trial. This study contributes to research that helps expand understanding of pancreatic cancer and may help inform future approaches to care.

Participants may receive study-related care at no cost, and travel reimbursement may be available for Brooklyn residents.

ICYMI: On September 24, 2026, the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) hosted an engaging Lunch & Learn, “Understanding the Family Caregiver Experience,” presented by Michelle Melendez, MS, LCSW, CASAC and hosted by Magda Alliancin, Ed.D., CEAP, SAP.

The session provided employees with an opportunity to explore the realities of family caregiving and the impact it can have on emotional well-being, work-life balance, and everyday responsibilities. Michelle shared valuable insights on the challenges caregivers often face, the importance of recognizing caregiver stress and burnout, and practical strategies for managing responsibilities while also making time for self-care.

The discussion also highlighted the importance of seeking support and utilizing available resources rather than navigating the caregiving journey alone. Participants were encouraged to recognize that caring for themselves is an important part of being able to care for others.

The EAP extends a special thank you to Michelle Melendez for sharing her expertise and to all of the employees who attended and participated in the discussion.

The Employee Assistance Program remains committed to providing programs, resources, and confidential support that address the real-life challenges affecting employees and their families.

Today, the School of Health Professions kicked off Downstate READY, bringing faculty, staff, and students together for a quick, hands-on CPR learning experience focused on building the confidence to respond when it matters most.

In just a few minutes, participants practiced adult and infant CPR, choking response, and AED basics—because lifesaving skills are skills worth keeping READY.
