🎓✨ On October 5, 2026, the Occupational Therapy program celebrated the induction of 14 high-achieving Master’s students into the Pi Theta Epsilon (PTE) National Honor Society! Bringing together loved ones and faculty, the ceremony honored the inductees’ academic performance, leadership, and passion for the field. Beyond showcasing the students' hard work, this milestone celebrated how occupational therapists transform health and well-being through compassionate service, clinical excellence, and high-quality care. When breast cancer treatment stops working, what comes next? 🎀 Dr. Stacy Blain, a Brooklyn-based founder and CEO of Concarlo Therapeutics, is building the first drug designed to target p27, a protein that controls cell division. The goal is to treat cancers that resist today’s drugs. It’s still in early testing, not yet in patients. Share to help more women life science founders get seen.

Almost missed the day, but not the opportunity to say thank you. 🍎💙 On #WorldTeachersDay, I’m grateful for the extraordinary educators at @SUNY.Downstate who teach, mentor, challenge, encourage, and inspire our students every day. Teaching happens everywhere: in classrooms and laboratories, at the bedside and in clinics, and in the countless moments of mentorship that help shape the next generation of physicians, nurses, health professionals, scientists, and public health leaders. To all of our faculty, clinicians, mentors, and educators: thank you for all you do for our students and for the future of healthcare. 💙 #SUNYDownstate #WorldTeachersDay #MedicalEducation #HealthProfessionsEducation HigherEducation

🎒💙 Backpack Awareness in Action! For 10 years, SUNY Downstate’s Occupational Therapy Program has been taking backpack safety beyond the classroom and into our community! Our School of Health Professions Occupational Therapy students recently led our annual Backpack Awareness community initiative at P.S. 235, helping young students learn how to pack, wear, and manage their backpacks safely while promoting healthy habits, ergonomics, and injury prevention. Through backpack weigh-ins, interactive activities, demonstrations, and classroom engagement, our OT students transformed their therapeutic knowledge into practical lessons that children can use every day. 🎒📚 The initiative focuses on backpack weight and organization, ergonomics, storage, reducing unnecessary items, and education for students and families. A special shoutout to our SOTA and COTAD student leaders and all of our OT students for bringing enthusiasm, creativity, teamwork, and professionalism to every interaction. You represented SOHP exceptionally well! 👏🏽 And a heartfelt thank you to the administration, faculty, teachers, and staff of P.S. 235 for once again welcoming us into your school community. We deeply value this longstanding partnership and the opportunity to continue learning, serving, and making an impact together. As SOHP celebrates 60 years of education, service, and impact, experiences like this remind us that health professions education extends far beyond the classroom—it is also about prevention, education, service, and strengthening the communities we serve. 📸 Swipe through to see our future occupational therapists in action! As summer has given way to fall, I've had the opportunity to reflect on a particularly meaningful experience from late August. Approximately one month ago, I was honored to serve as the keynote speaker at the White Coat Ceremony for the SUNY Downstate College of Medicine Class of 2030. In a time of significant change and challenge across higher education and academic medicine, it was inspiring to witness State University of New York Downstate Health Sciences University's enduring commitment to educating the next generation of physicians. Nearly two decades after my own graduation, it was especially meaningful to return and celebrate this important milestone with the incoming class. My sincerest thanks to Dr. Jeffrey Putman, Dr. Wayne J Riley, M.D., MPH, MBA, MACP, and Dr. Charles Brunicardi for the invitation and opportunity to participate in such a special occasion. I am also grateful for the longstanding partnership of The Arnold P. Gold Foundation, represented at the ceremony by Kathleen Reeves, MD, FAAP, GHHS, whose dedication to humanism in medicine continues to shape our profession. Finally, thank you to the Alumni Association SUNY Downstate COM for sponsoring the students' first white coats and helping welcome them into the medical profession. Congratulations to the Class of 2030. May you carry the values symbolized by the white coat with humility, compassion, curiosity, and a lifelong commitment to service. Video & Photo creds: SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University Full ceremony available for your viewing pleasure via YouTube: @https://youtu.be/KMxQPbdetsg Catch my full speech at 49 mins and again at 2hrs 46 mins #SUNYHealthSciencesUniversity #ClassOf2030 #WhiteCoatCeremony #MedicalEducation #HumanismInMedicine
