Absolutely brilliant morning on the water paddling with @samfoyle on the last leg of his incredible 230km Thames paddle.

You may have seen Sam paddling down the Thames this week all in the name of Leash awareness and raising money for great causes.

A 4am start in Chelsea was an incredible experience paddling to Westminster at sunrise one to remember and not one that many get the opportunity to do. It's extremely hard to get access. Massive thanks to everyone who made it happen behind the scenes and our safety and guides for the day from @active360sup and @ldnsportstrust for launch at Cremone Gardens.

Well done Sam! You did it! taken in Westminster by @supwithdale

Nice to get my article published in @supmaguk this month. Paddling with the family is what paddling has become and I wouldn't change it! This is one of a few things on the pipe line. Always a pleasure and massive thanks to @supmaguk for the opportunity.

For the record my youngest was ok she just wanted her dummy back which I hadn't noticed had fallen out.

Great that many images from my article came from the Barrow loop also included in this issue by @paddleuk

Go check the article out in this month's issue. There's some great articles in there I especially enjoyed @tez_plavenieks article on messy sup sessions which is so true! @jomoseley
Column is always excellent and great to see Will @inclusivepaddleboarding in there this month as well as many good reviews.

Absolutely loved sup'ing on Skiathos this past few weeks. Amazing place anyway but great to get out on the water whilst here and got some more remote locations taken in Megali Ammos Beach, Skiathos by @supwithdale

SUP with a Jeep! The best way to travel. We travelled up to the north side of Skiathos only accessible by 4x4. Great fun and although quite exposed and not the calmest a great paddle! taken in Elias beach Skiathos by @supwithdale

Here's my video hitting the water in Skiathos by Paddleboard.

Super easy flight in with the board and quick trip to the beach from our apartments.

Skiathos offers some beautiful weather and sights and better from the water. Can't wait to hear out again!

Also first time testing out the @restube.official on the water as an alternative to a vest style pfd ideal for travel. taken in Skiathos Island, Greece by @supwithdale

I've never flown with a SUP, considering how long I've paddled this year was the first and it has not disappointed.

Skiathos is a beautiful island, one that means a lot to us from holidaying, getting married 11 years ago on the island and a secret (ok not so secret love of the mamma Mia films 🤣)

It's super easy to fly with your board, I'm not sure why I havent sooner.

Also as it's so hot I've been lucky enough to get the @restube.official system to use as my PFD whilst out here which is game changing (more to follow with full review and video coming on @standuppaddleuk)

Anyway here's a few snaps from the @goprouk

Carsington Waterside you are a beauty!

We had a great family day visiting the newly reopened Carsington Reservoir paddleboarding set up.

The new opening brings full access to the lake, not just the tiny section previously available, full refurb changing facilities opening hopefully next week, brand new @redequipment hire boards, @palmequipment and @peakpaddlesports hire gear.

Self launch is £15 per craft for the day which is great value, parking is seperate £7 for the day but lower tariffs if short stay.

Really organised set up but please note you will need @paddleuk membership to paddle, and family membership if taking riders in your board. Gear is checked on arrival to ensure safety which is a great move towards ensuring everyone on the water is safe.

We had the privilege to help @samfoyle with his source to sea trip which finished at Big Ben early on Saturday. Guiding for the last leg from Chelsea meant a 4.00am start to catch the end of the ebb tide. We decided to sleep on our boards on riverside on Friday night to make the early start a bit less early. The pay off was a stunning sunrise on the river and a completely empty river. London was as still as a zombie movie scene.

More on Sam’s quest below and in the website
It did make us think we should do this a little more often as we haven’t done this particular trip at sunrise since 2020.

A big thanks to @ldnsportstrust for use of the Cremorne Centre in Chelsea and to the @londonportauth for approving the trip.

In August of 2020, Simon was on holiday with friends in Cornwall, when he drowned in a tragic accident. He was paddleboarding in the Camel Estuary, near Rock, when he jumped off his board and his ankle leash became tangled with a swing mooring. The current forced him one way and his board the other, and he was dragged underneath a boat. Despite the best efforts of many local people to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The inquest into Simon’s death recorded a verdict of accidental death, and the case highlighted the issue of safety in paddleboarding generally. Simon was wearing an ankle leash which meant that, against the weight of the current, he was unable to reach the release clip and free himself. Had he been wearing a quick-release leash attached to his waist, he would probably be alive today.

Simon’s best friend, Sam Foyle, who attended St Edward’s School with Simon, has since been campaigning tirelessly to raise awareness of the importance of choosing the right type of leash for the conditions, to prevent more needless deaths.

He has been working with the sport’s governing body, British Canoeing, to update their standard guidance, and with the UK Government’s Office for Product Safety and Standards, as well as lobbying some of the main manufacturers to sell all their paddleboards with a quick-release waist leash and/or both types of leash, with clear instructions on how and when to use each type. taken in Big Ben, London by @supwithdale

Excellent morning paddle with @samfoyle for his 230km Thames paddle challenge. The final stretch Chelsea to Westminster was beautiful and rarely done by Paddleboard die to restricted access (unless you want to be thrown in a rib and bundled to MI5 building)

Camped out along the river and early start made for excellent conditions.

All this to raise money for water safety and raise awareness of quick release waist leashes when paddleboarding. taken in Westminster by @supwithdale
