Until October 18th 🌬️🫁🔥🫁

BREATHE at Sorø Kunstmuseum.

Created in close collaboration between Holstebro Kunstmuseum and Sorø Kunstmuseum, BREATHE is a sensory total installation exploring breath, the body and our connection to one another.

Through spatial sculptures, video, sound, scent and participatory works, the exhibition invites us to slow down, pay attention and reconnect with the simple act of breathing.

Breath becomes both personal and collective — a space for contemplation, presence and freedom.

Come experience BREATHE before the exhibition closes at Sorø Kunstmuseum.

If you’re in Copenhagen, don’t miss out!

Beyond Tropaganda at 2112 (@2112art_ ) curated by Mathias Danbolt and Jeannette Ehlers, brings together the original concepts for I Am Queen Mary for the first time: La Vaughn Belle’s Trading Post (articulated hierarchies and visible displacement) (2015) and Jeannette Ehlers’ Whip It Good (KAS) (2014).

Trading Post consists of coral stones from the ruins of colonial-era buildings in Christiansted, St. Croix. Harvested from the sea snd worked by enslaved Africans, the stones became part of the foundations of so-called Danish colonial buildings. By bringing them to the surface, Belle exposes the labour and exploitation embedded in the colonial architecture.

Whip It Good documents a performative intervention in the Royal Cast Collection. Seated in a peacock chair and holding a whip, Ehlers references Huey P. Newton, co-founder of the Black Panther Party, confronting the white sculptural canon and the colonial narratives it upholds. Michelangelo’s David, prominently displayed outside the collection, became a point of departure for imagining a Black woman of resistance confronting this canon, an idea that would later inform I Am Queen Mary.

In 2018, these two artistic ideas converged in I Am Queen Mary, a public monument commemorating the Fireburn labour uprising on St. Croix in 1878.

From coral shaped by enslaved labour to a Black woman confronting the colonial archive, I Am Queen Mary brings these histories into relation.

Beyond Tropaganda brings together artists with backgrounds in the Caribbean, Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland), Ghana and Denmark. Through different artistic practices, the artists challenge the idea of colonial history as a “fascinating” chapter that can safely be consumed from a distance.

The exhibition takes its starting point in Mathias Danbolt’s book Tropaganda: Kunst, kolonialisme og kampe om historien (2025), centred on the concept of tropaganda — tropical propaganda.
The show runs through October 17.

Untitled

Primer and spray paint on canvas
2026

For a long time, I’ve wanted to find a way to paint that is closer to the way I work with casting. I enjoy setting a process in motion and working within its constraints.

The canvas is primed and hung while the primer is still wet, allowing it to run down the surface. The painting has to be completed before the primer has run off the canvas. This gives me a very limited window of time, so decisions have to be made quickly and cannot be corrected along the way.

My own actions, gravity, the movement of the material, and time all shape the image. When the canvas is laid flat, the movement stops, and the painting fixes a particular moment in the process.

In that sense, the painting becomes an imprint of its own making, not so different from the way I work with sculpture.

It is a chaotic process. And that is exactly how it should be 😊

🇬🇧 September 21 - one date, two memories

On September 21, 1792, the National Convention abolished the monarchy in France, paving the way for the First Republic, officially proclaimed the following day.

Today, September 21 is also the International Day of Peace.

A beautiful coincidence for Sophie Dupont, who comes to breathe for peace through her performance BREATHING PEACE - movement, breath, and freedom.

Without seeking to connect the eras, simply letting this date resonate: freedom, peace, breath.

📍 Place de la République, Paris

✔️ Monday, September 21

🪄 From sunrise to sunset

Sophie Dupont will walk in a circle, endlessly.

Come.

Join Sophie.

Walk.

Take a pause.

Breathe.

In a world marked by wars, divisions, and acceleration, BREATHING PEACE offers a simple act of peaceful activism: Breathing peace together.
