A month ago @yc_visual_arts reached out and asked if I’d be interested in being a guest judge at their up coming sustainable art show and exhibition! I humbly and graciously accepted the invite and was presented with over 50 amazing artist who submitted works from across the country. The subject for the show was sustainable art, using found, discarded or used mediums and materials to create their pieces. A big push and message behind this is to help share the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling on all levels and aspects of life and share and advocate for it through the visual arts. The work that was submitted covered a large array of styles and mediums along with some great artist statements that really encapsulated the purpose and message of this event! Congrats to the top 3 awardee’s and all the artist who took the time and effort to indulge in this show. I had a great time attending and networking with enthusiasts, and staff along with some fellow Arizona artists holding it down from across the state! My pelican painting won 1st Place at the Sustainability Art show! 🎉 I also had the opportunity to exhibit my found objects sculpture entitled: “And Even In Death We Are One”, composed of cholla, bones, and preserved cacti. 🦴 I’m grateful to be exhibiting at @yc_visual_arts gallery among such talented artists. A special thanks to @gnar_art_pklaine for selecting my artworks. 👩‍🎨

My painting showcases found objects collected from the Ocean Beach tide pools. I spent a few hours collecting trash within this beautiful, fragile ecosystem. I assembled the pollution in a rainbow descending from the inside of the Pelican. With its midsection unzipped to expose the ingested pollution, my painting forces the viewer to confront a horrific truth about what ends up in our oceans. This is just one piece, two hours of collection. Imagine if I visited other tide pools? Other ecosystems? I hope my painting inspires others to pick up trash they find and participate in protecting our environments. We are the cause, but we can also be the solution. ❤️ There is no Planet B. 🌎🌱🐋

A young blue heron and baby crocodile 🐊 were the surprises on the last Monkey Mangrove tour!! And of course it’s always a pleasure to see the monkeys and Maria has a 3 month old baby! Yes, they all have names as our guide has been visiting them for years and years 🥰

This Sunday marks one year of being at my physical location on South Padre Island! 😵😵‍💫🥳

This year also marks one year of doing probably the scariest things I’ve ever done in my life, taking a risk on myself, my art, my business, on literally everything.

I have grown the most I’ve ever grown this year. I stopped listening to all the voices who said I couldn’t do it (including my own,) and let go of control, trusting I was going to pay all my bills, I was going to sell work, I was going to make friends and community who understood me and what I was doing.

Years of inner work in therapy started to become the foundation of trust in myself & my intuition in every decision. I stopped working for money, running myself ragged & actually started resting MORE, realizing the more I rested and did what I loved, the more I had energy to give out & show up & do my best.

I got to watch as the right people at the right time showed up at Paper Caper Co. I got to experience love, support, and friendship in ways I didn’t know were possible for me. I got to grow into the most authentic parts of myself & not be scared anymore of putting myself or my work out there (and not just the physical work but my curation, eye, & knowledge too.)

If you’ve been even a small part of this journey, or if you’d like to be in some way, you are cordially (haha so fancy 💁🏽‍♀️) invited to the Birthday Party this Sunday. 🎉🎂🎁

I couldn’t have done any of this without my community. You are the reason I am here. You are the reason I chose to take the risk. You are the reason I have grown. (All I can hear is the Hoobastank song in my head 😂😅) The reason really is you.
